Chapter 20: Unexpectedly a Mother???
“Don’t you know?” Luna asked suspiciously.
“Yeah, he suddenly started trembling and fainted on the ground. I don’t really know what happened,” Elrose said seriously. “But I suspect that he got too excited, and his blood pressure shot up, causing him to faint.”
“Is that true? That sounds ridiculous!”
“Really, if you don’t believe me, you can ask the customers.”
Luna looked around, and the customers all nodded, indicating that Elrose was telling the truth.
“Ugh, this is too pathetic. With this, he claims to be a little dragon in the waves? More like a little worm that peed its pants.” Luna couldn’t help but mock.
“Stop making jokes. Having a customer faint in our store is still not good.” At this moment, Kendrick stepped forward and picked up Bardel, saying, “You guys continue managing the store; I’ll take him to the guild.”
“Okay,” everyone agreed.
“Elrose should come with me as well,” Kendrick said.
Elrose was momentarily stunned but then nodded, “Sure.”
…
On Greenstone Street, Kendrick walked briskly with the fainted Bardel on his back, with Elrose closely following behind. The atmosphere was slightly subtle.
Elrose knew that Kendrick didn’t seem to like her much; in fact, he didn’t want her to stay at Nightmoon Tavern.
But the problem was, she had no idea why Kendrick was so wary of her. Did she say something she shouldn’t have in her sleep?
Like, I am the Demon King or something.
Hmm…
Maybe I should just ask him directly.
“Kendrick.”
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“I have a question for you.”
“Go ahead.”
“Why do you dislike me so much? Did I do something?”
Kendrick hesitated for a moment and slowly said, “Actually, I don’t hate you. I’m just… simply a bit scared.”
“Scared?” Elrose asked in confusion.
“Yes, scared.” Kendrick said, “Speaking of which, Elrose, can you be honest with me? Do you know why Bardel fainted?”
“Uh…” Elrose paused and then honestly said, “Maybe it’s because of the bracelet on my right hand.”
“At that time, Bardel was holding my hand, and I felt it emanating some kind of chilling aura, and then he started foaming at the mouth and fainted.”
“So that’s how it was…” Kendrick sighed and asked, “What did you feel when you sensed that cold aura, Elrose?”
“Feel? I didn’t feel anything special.” Elrose said, “Just that it felt ice-cold.”
“Was that all you felt?” Kendrick smiled helplessly, “Do you know why I feel scared of you?”
“Why?”
“Because when I was saving you, I accidentally touched your bracelet. In that moment, I felt as if I was engulfed in an abyss-like darkness.”
“I was horrified. I’m an adventurer myself, and I’ve been to the Netherrealm before, witnessing some terrifying demon clan members with incredible powers.”
“But that darkness was even more terrifying.” As he spoke, Kendrick’s body began to tremble slightly. “I can’t describe that feeling: the desperation and helplessness, the cold so suffocating that I almost wet myself.”
Elrose’s eyes widened, filled with shock.
What was going on?
She recognized what Kendrick was describing; wasn’t that his [Dark Despair Domain]?
But that was an active skill, and it couldn’t be released without his control.
Moreover, he had transformed into Elrose and had no mana at all, hence didn’t know how to release [Dark Despair Domain].
This…
Kendrick noticed Elrose’s puzzled expression and didn’t pursue the matter further.
Sleeping, amnesia, the strange bracelet; this girl was indeed full of mysteries.
And now, she had publicly taken down the young master of the Garcean family.
Sigh, what a hassle.
But although it was a hassle, she had already stayed.
And her staying was the choice of his three daughters.
So even if it was a hassle, he had to grit his teeth and resolve it.
Since it was like that, he had no need to suspect her excessively; that would only sour their relationship.
On the other hand, Elrose felt a sense of relief when she noticed Kendrick didn’t intend to press further.
Honestly, she knew nothing at all and was completely in a state of confusion.
If Kendrick were to ask more, she wouldn’t really know how to answer.
The two fell into silence again, time flowing quietly. Twenty minutes later.
Kendrick stopped in front of a plain three-story building.
“We’ve arrived.”
At the center of Karashok Town, Adventurer’s Guild.
Even though it was already night, the place was still bustling as always.
Warriors wielding greatswords, knights in armor, mages holding magic formations…
Some stood in front of the task board for suitable quests for tomorrow, some were at the counter exchanging information with the receptionist, and others sat quietly at wooden tables waiting for their teammates to gather.
Kendrick took Elrose into the Adventurer’s Guild and walked straight to a certain receptionist.
Celia was at the counter organizing her office desk. It was time to get off work, and after tidying up, she was preparing to leave.
Just then, a burly man suddenly appeared at the counter. “Hey, Celia.”
Celia looked up and saw the familiar figure, frowning slightly, “Kendrick? What brings you here?”
“Need help.” Kendrick displayed the already unconscious Bardel behind him, stating concisely.
“Bardel?!” Celia exclaimed, surprised. “What happened to him?”
“Well, I don’t really know what’s going on, so I came to find you.” Kendrick replied.
“Tsk.” Celia clicked her tongue in annoyance and said, “Damn it, you really know how to pick your time; I should be off work now.”
“Stop complaining and hurry up. I still have to go home and cook after this.” Kendrick urged.
“Fine, fine, what a hassle.” Celia complained, but just then, she suddenly noticed Elrose behind Kendrick, and her eyes lit up, “Who’s this?”
“Our new employee at the restaurant.” Kendrick answered briefly.
“A new employee at Nightmoon Tavern?” Celia paused for a moment and then revealed a knowing smile.
Seeing this, Elrose stepped forward politely, “Hello, I’m Elrose Phil. You can call me Elrose.”
“Ah, what a cute girl,” Celia said with a slight smile, “Hello, I’m Celia, an evaluator. Welcome to the Adventurer’s Guild.”
Celia stared at the girl before her, the more she looked, the more she found her beautiful. With that exquisite face, fair skin, long eyelashes, and sparkling big eyes, she was simply a standard—no, an extraordinary beauty.
Elrose felt a bit uncomfortable under the gaze and reminded her, “Miss Celia?”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I got a bit lost in thought.” Celia quickly came back to her senses and leaned closer to Kendrick with a beaming smile, “Hey, Kendrick, where did such a beautiful girl come from?”
“Picked her up in the forest.” Kendrick replied blandly.
“Picked her up in the forest? Another one?” Celia asked, “Are you adopting another daughter?”
“Daughter?” Kendrick quickly denied, “She’s not my daughter.”
“Not a daughter?” Celia smiled and said, “Oh come on, Kendrick, stop pretending. You brought her into Nightmoon Tavern, and you still say she’s not your daughter?”
“Seriously, I said she’s not.” Kendrick frowned, “Her situation is much more complicated than Lilith’s or the others’.”
Upon hearing this, Celia couldn’t help but be taken aback.
Not a daughter, then what is she?
You have to know, Nightmoon Tavern is not a place just anyone can enter.
The Nightmoon Tavern Trio were quite popular in Karashok, and countless people wished to work at the restaurant, yet no one could get in.
And it wasn’t because they weren’t short on staff; on the contrary, as business improved, it became increasingly clear that the restaurant was lacking personnel.
But Nightmoon Tavern still had no plans to hire anyone.
Because that place was a home for the three girls who had once lost everything.
Joining there meant that you became part of their big family and became their family member.
So not just anyone could enter Nightmoon Tavern.
Celia pondered for a long while.
Not a daughter, but family, the situation was somewhat complicated…
Uh…
Wait?!
Damn it, Kendrick, you beast!
You’re not planning to find a mother for Lilith and the others, are you?
