Volume 1 Chapter 4: The First Irregular
The next morning, when I opened my eyes, I found myself on the living room sofa.
For a moment, I felt a strange sense of discomfort being in such a place, but I quickly recalled what happened yesterday.
I peeked into the bedroom, and there lay Fine, sound asleep in the bed.
(Right, after that, Fine didn’t wake up, so I let her sleep in the bed.)
I wondered if I should wake her, but hesitated, thinking that if I did, she might end up back in that alley again.
At the same time, I noticed the clock and realized I was running out of time before work. I hurriedly left a note on the living room table saying, “You can use whatever’s in the room,” changed into my uniform, and stepped out of the dorm room.
“…Sorry.”
Feeling guilty in my heart, I closed the door to avoid causing confusion or trouble, and to prevent Fine from going back to that alley.
Then I dashed off to school, determined not to be late.
◇◇◇
“Hey, Ash. How are you feeling?”
When I arrived in the classroom and started preparing for class, a male student approached me.
His name is Ian Moreth. Like Ash Reuben, he’s a lower-rank noble and a mere background character who never appears in the main story, but he’s one of my few friends.
“I’m all better after sleeping for half a day. Sleep really is important.”
“That’s good to hear. But man, it’s a shame you missed that huge event!”
“…Huge event?”
“Prince Alberich announced his engagement!”
Prince Alberich, the second prince. He is one of the characters you can pursue in Kizuyoru and is supposed to team up with Fine, who awakens as the Saintess of Light, to defeat the Demon King in the normal route. He’s also the one who put Fine through that ordeal.
That said, lower-rank and upper-rank nobles are separated into different classes, so there was hardly any chance to run into him, and since classes are held separately, I only saw the prince from a distance when he was giving a speech as the representative of the new students during the entrance ceremony.
“Oh, really? Who did he get engaged to? A daughter from a duke’s family or a branch family?”
“Nope! It’s the daughter of a baronial house, just like us!”
Ian’s and my families belong to baronial houses, the most common and lowest rank among the nobility. If the head of the house fails to achieve something noteworthy, they risk losing their title. Furthermore, we enjoy virtually no privileges as nobles and are essentially treated as commoners by those above the rank of count—provided they have enough money…
“How did the daughter of a baronial house manage to get close to royalty…? Do you know her name?”
“I think it was Elise Ringstadt? I saw her with Prince Alberich at the engagement announcement, and she was quite cute.”
Elise… I don’t recall any character by that name while playing Kizuyoru.
Well, it makes sense since I wouldn’t know what happened to the pursuit characters after Fine got expelled in the bad end.
Still, it does intrigue me how the daughter of a baronial house managed to interact with royalty like that.
“Do you know which class Elise is in? I’d like to see her once.”
“She got transferred to the honors class right after the engagement announcement, so we can’t go see her. But I think we’ll get to see her soon enough. I mean, she’s making quite a splash!”
With that, Ian pointed toward the window.
Wondering what he meant, I looked outside, and I understood the “splash” he referenced.
A beautiful youth with blonde hair and blue eyes, none other than Prince Alberich Crown.
The son of one of the kingdom’s fiercest generals and a master spear user, Eugene Grime.
The son of the court’s top magician who wields magic from five different attributes, a rare genius magician, Recon Albach.
The son of a prominent minister who supports the court’s finances and runs multiple trading companies as a charismatic student, David Venus.
Surrounded by those four beautiful youths, known as the “Four Knights,” was a petite girl with flaxen hair, walking boldly.
“…Could that be Elise?”
“Yup. And she’s also the fiancée of those four noble boys.”
“Simultaneous engagements…? Is that even possible?”
“They say it was made possible by the second prince’s authority.”
If I didn’t have knowledge of Kizyor, I would’ve blurted out, “That’s ridiculous!”
But I know how that plot plays out. Given that those four are engaged at the same time, it makes too much sense for this bizarre situation.
Those four handsome men engaged to Elise are pursuit targets in Kizyor.
And in the true ending, which is the reverse harem route, there’s a moment when Alberich uses his authority and position to convince their parents about the simultaneous engagement with Fine after some questioning.
Considering all this, it implies that Elise is walking down the game’s reverse harem route.
The question is, how did Elise manage to take Fine’s position and plunge into the reverse harem route?
In the first place, Fine’s connection with those four pursuit targets started when she used holy magic.
And within the game’s settings, it was stated that only one person could handle holy magic, the Saintess of Light, during that era.
Moreover, since they are in different classes and can’t attend the same lessons, how did Elise meet the princes and even establish a reverse harem?
“Hey, we should probably start preparing for class!”
“Oh, yeah.”
The mysteries only deepened, but for now, I decided to focus on preparing for class.
