Chapter 52

Chapter 52: Not Your Average Hotel!

“It’s already eight o’clock…”

Ning Chu wearily sat on the roadside flower bed, his head drooping in despair. “Why is no one paying attention to me?”

Promoting the app wasn’t as easy as he thought. It looked simple—just get people to download and register—but no one wanted to give him the time of day.

Most of today’s tasks were completed by Wen Yang.

Not that Wen Yang was particularly eloquent or experienced; as the male lead, his presence alone was enough to draw in several young and pretty girls.

After just a few minutes of not watching Wen Yang, Ning Chu turned his head to see two more girls crowding around him.

He sighed tiredly and slowly walked over, just in time to hear one of the girls excitedly ask.

“If I register and download, can you add me as a friend?”

“Yeah, yeah! If you add us, we’ll download it!”

Wen Yang shook his head repeatedly but was overwhelmed by their enthusiasm, until Ning Chu’s voice rang out from behind, “No!”

“Hurry up and scan the code to download it, or just leave! You’re blocking the way!”

Not only did he need to finish the promotion task, but he also had to ensure that Wen Yang didn’t get his heart snatched away by these overly keen girls…

Why hadn’t he thought of that from the start?

“He has a girlfriend…”

“So he likes flat-chested girls.”

Hearing the girls’ conversation as they left, Wen Yang looked flustered.

He nervously glanced at Ning Chu, fearing another lecture, but Ning Chu merely yawned, seemingly unfazed by the girls’ comments.

“Shouldn’t we have a better attitude?” Wen Yang tentatively asked. “Like earlier, it was just adding a friend. I don’t think it’s a loss…”

“It’s been this long, and we’ve only done just over half of our tasks.”

Wen Yang’s voice grew quieter, his gaze avoiding Ning Chu’s.

True, he wanted to casually find a girl he could get along with as a girlfriend, but wasn’t that for work?

Ning Chu shot him a look and sighed softly, “Let’s just go back.”

“So early?”

“It’s past eight. By the time we get to the dormitory, it’ll be ten.” Ning Chu pulled out his phone to show him the time. “You can take all the credit for today’s task anyway, since I barely did anything.”

Wen Yang finally remembered that Ning Chu never went out at night.

Maybe it was strict family upbringing or just a simple fear of the dark, but Ning Chu usually stayed in from around eight or nine at the dorm.

“It’s just a bit short…” Wen Yang frowned. “If it’s too late, we can find a hostel to stay in, it’ll only be around fifty or sixty per person.”

“That way, we can still go out and explore tomorrow. It’s better than spending four hours on the bus every day.”

“A hostel…” Ning Chu hesitated before shaking his head. “No.”

“Then are you going back by yourself?”

Clearly, Wen Yang felt a bit rejected.

Ning Chu bit his lip, uneasy about leaving Wen Yang alone outside.

He knew if he were a bit more assertive, Wen Yang would likely go along with his plans, but his controlling nature was reminiscent of a parent, which could easily annoy Wen Yang.

If he really got disliked, it would be a dream to try and stop the plot development later!

Recalling the novel, there weren’t any scenes regarding hostels or hotels.

No wonder the locals enjoyed adventuring, since there was basically no hotel plot in the story!

“Fine.”

With a resigned sigh, Ning Chu picked up the flyers and approached the passersby.

The city’s buses stopped running at ten o’clock, and when their tasks for today finally ended, Ning Chu and Wen Yang hurried to the bus stop, only to see the last bus’s tail lights disappearing down the road.

“Alright, I guess it’s a hotel then.” Wen Yang didn’t look dejected, but rather cheerful. He instinctively slung an arm around Ning Chu’s shoulders and asked, “Shall we check out a snack street? We made over six hundred today!”

Ning Chu stiffened, quickly glancing at the arm around him, slightly uncomfortable trying to shake it off.

“Sure, whatever. You earned most of the money anyway; I’m just holding you back.”

“I haven’t had a chance to properly thank you for last night, so I’m treating you tonight!”

With money in hand, Wen Yang immediately started acting like a rich person. He was working part-time to improve his life, and now that he had cash, he was already thinking about how to spend it.

Ning Chu’s steps faltered as Wen Yang took him towards the nearby night market.

He wasn’t too keen on getting too close to Wen Yang, but if he found it overly sensitive to shy away from just a casual shoulder hug, that felt a bit too much.

This guy’s hand is so hot…

Tonight, Wen Yang was clearly more enthusiastic than usual; his gaze was softer than before.

Could he be too eager for Ning Chu to turn into a girl?

Just the thought sent a chill down his spine.

Past ten o’clock at night was the most lively time for the snack street. Wen Yang wore a big grin as he kept handing Ning Chu one snack after another.

Meanwhile, Ning Chu felt like he was in prison; every morsel tasted like chewing on cardboard.

Why was this guy so excited about hanging out with a dude?!

“Ning Chu, let me take a bite of that lamb skewer.”

“I’ve already taken a bite…”

“I’m not picky.”

I’m picky as hell!

Did their relationship get a bit too cozy without him realizing?!

But switching perspectives, if Ning Chu had an oblivious roommate who constantly ruined his dates, he would be wishing for their downfall!

Maybe Wen Yang had too many options available and didn’t care much?

With a face of disdain, Ning Chu passed over the lamb skewer, but Wen Yang didn’t take it; instead, he bent down and took a bite straight from it.

“…”

Though such behavior between good buddies didn’t necessarily scream ‘gay’, they had only known each other for a month!

Seeing Wen Yang so happy, Ning Chu buried his annoyance and forced a smile.

For now, he needed to maintain a good relationship with Wen Yang and endure!

Once the novel’s plot is over…

Wen Yang chewed on the lamb, his gaze fixed ahead as he pointed at a sign, “There’s a hotel up ahead. I’ll go check the prices.”

Weren’t we supposed to stay at a hostel to save money?

“A small hotel double room is just over a hundred. It’s about the same price,” he quickened his pace, “Anyway, I’m treating tonight, why are you overthinking it?”

Good point…

Ning Chu sighed softly and followed behind leisurely, watching Wen Yang walk into the hotel.

His eyelids suddenly twitched, sensing something wasn’t right.

Just as he was about to quicken his steps to follow Wen Yang inside, he saw Wen Yang bolt out, his face filled with panic.

“Run!”

Ning Chu didn’t even have time to question him. While running, he glanced back at the hotel’s glass doors and noticed several girls looking at Wen Yang with regretful expressions.

After running a good ten meters, they stopped under a tree, and Ning Chu finally had a chance to ask, “What happened?”

“It’s not a proper hotel!”

“???“
