Chapter 32

Chapter 32: Café

In the university dormitory, the peak moments of chaos usually happen when a few people are playing games together.

No matter if it’s someone who is usually polite and never curses, or an introverted person who doesn’t like to talk, during gaming, they generally unleash a torrent of obscenities and sweet words with high mom content levels.

Zhang Shaoqing has the lowest quality, Wang Jie turns into a chatterbox while gaming, and even Wen Yang, who usually avoids bad language, occasionally lets a few slip.

Only Ning Chu sits there in confusion, staring at his black-and-white screen, unable to find his voice, completely out of place.

Two hours later, the friendship boat totally capsized.

“Damn it! I’m done!” Zhang Shaoqing tossed his mouse aside. “Great, we’ve played for two hours and not won a single game—who’s to blame here?”

“Not playing anymore? Then I’ll take a nap.” Wang Jie stretched, turned off the screen, and yawned as he stood up. “We’ll get back to it next time.”

Wen Yang glanced at the time; it was only 1 PM. His mind suddenly kicked into gear.

But the moment that bad idea sparked, his gaze instinctively shifted to Ning Chu.

It’s not like he could find an irrefutable reason to keep him from leaving the dorm, right?

He just didn’t understand what Ning Chu was up to.

Ning Chu was tired, too. As a newbie, following his roommates to game was exhausting, and he plopped his head on the desk, his eyelids starting to droop.

He still wanted to keep Wen Yang cooped up in the dorm for the whole afternoon.

He rubbed his eyes, struggling to stay alert, but he remembered his mission: Keep Wen Yang’s virginity intact!

“Wen Yang, are you taking a nap?”

If Wen Yang took a nap, he could survive this dangerous afternoon!

“I’m heading out for a bit.” Wen Yang rejected him. “You sleep, I’m going to the café outside campus. The boss’s wife invited me to help taste-test new products this weekend, but I haven’t had time.”

Taste-test? You mean taste the boss’s wife, right?

This scene wasn’t actually in the book, but Ning Chu still wasn’t at ease. Wen Yang’s protagonist aura was too strong; nearly all the girls were crazy about him, and even if it wasn’t a plot point, there was a chance it could go sideways.

“It’s raining so hard…”

“Just take an umbrella.”

“Well, I’ll go too! I happen to like coffee.”

Ning Chu couldn’t find another excuse, so he switched strategies.

Wen Yang had no objections; he nodded and bent down to put on his shoes, ready to head out.

“Hey, lovebirds, why don’t you two just merge?” Zhang Shaoqing teased once again, which was super annoying.

“Talk less!”

Grabbing a folding umbrella, Ning Chu suddenly kicked Zhang Shaoqing’s chair, and then he hurried out of the dorm after Wen Yang, muttering curses.

Outside, the rain was pouring down like a waterfall, and flashes of lightning occasionally cut through the clouds.

“This rain is way too heavy… You’ll get soaked even with an umbrella.” Ning Chu frowned at the downpour. “Are we really going now?”

“It wouldn’t be good to bail out entirely; I don’t have anything else planned for the afternoon.”

Wen Yang opened the umbrella and stepped into the rain first, continuing, “Don’t worry; it’s pretty close. Just a few new types of coffee and snacks. By the time we get back, you probably won’t want to nap anymore.”

This guy really thinks he’s just going to taste products, huh?

Ning Chu had nothing to say and silently followed beside him.

He actually wanted to test a theory: Besides the female characters in the story who have a buddy relationship with Wen Yang, would other girls mentioned casually be tempted due to his protagonist aura, leading to situations like free gifts, seduction, or other setups?

The shy girl who delivered sour plum soup in the morning, the café owner—both were characters not mentioned in the book.

In the downpour, water inevitably splashed under the umbrella.

While walking aimlessly, Wen Yang kept shifting his gaze to Ning Chu, taking a couple of steps closer and starting a conversation, “What type of girls do you like?”

“Uh?” Ning Chu instinctively answered, “Someone with a good figure, pretty.”

“Don’t you have any requirements about personality?”

Wen Yang made it sound like Ning Chu was extremely superficial.

But Ning Chu was fine with being superficial. Just as he was about to eagerly nod, he suddenly realized he shouldn’t pass on any wrong ideals to Wen Yang.

So he paused to think, then took the chance to brainwash, “Of course, I have higher demands for personality. If I actually date a girl I like, it has to be serious—aiming for marriage.”

“Forget about being virtuous or gentle; loyalty is key! I wouldn’t mess around, wouldn’t ghost her, and I definitely wouldn’t cheat.”

He observed Wen Yang’s expression, worried his words might push him away.

Wen Yang nodded in agreement, “Makes sense.”

Uh-huh, once you’ve tasted the fruit of experience, maybe you won’t think that way anymore.

Ning Chu couldn’t help but ridicule his protagonist in his mind, but thankfully, Wen Yang was still a virgin, shy and timid, always holding a hint of hope about romance.

Romance in the Small Royal Text… honestly, it’s better not to expect much.

“The rain is getting heavier.”

“Yeah, I’m soaked…”

Wen Yang glanced at the wet side of Ning Chu’s body, handed over his umbrella, “Swap with me; mine is bigger.”

“Ah? What about you?” Ning Chu was taken aback by his sudden kindness.

“I’m tough; being in the rain is no big deal.”

“Don’t…”

Ning Chu twitched at the corners of his mouth, his eyes suddenly alert as he regarded Wen Yang suspiciously.

Could it be that Wen Yang is so in tune with him that he can’t wait for the plot to turn him into a girl?

“I’m not weak either.” He hastily shook his head, moving a couple of steps away from Wen Yang, looking very much like a wary little wildcat.

His good intentions were rejected, and Wen Yang looked at his shining eyes, then down at his chest: “But you’re soaked; it’s pretty obvious.”

“…”

His short-sleeved shirt had a splashy design that could effectively hide the prominent small red bean.

But with a little rain, the fabric clung to his skin, and the pattern’s concealing effect diminished significantly.

“Just a little chill from being in the rain,” Ning Chu stubbornly explained.

Out of instinct, he wrapped one arm around his chest to block Wen Yang’s gaze from the side, keeping his other arm casually propped up at the elbow while holding the umbrella.

“It’s not like I forced you out in this downpour.”

“I didn’t call you out…”

He couldn’t help but feel embarrassed, his face flushing as he deliberately slowed his pace, falling behind Wen Yang by a step.

Fortunately, as they walked out of the school gates, the café came into view right across the street.

From a distance, peering through the glass, Ning Chu could vaguely see a figure in a black-and-white maid outfit.

Well, well~ a maid café! No wonder Wen Yang braved the rain to come here!

Too bad there’s no cat girl! That’s a letdown.
