Chapter 281

Chapter 281 – January

“My mom is coming.”

As they left class in the evening and headed towards the cafeteria, Ning Chu suddenly said to Wen Yang.

“Ah?” Wen Yang stared in confusion for a moment.

“It’s already early January, my ID card is ready, and my mom has prepared the paperwork… If it weren’t for Hei Dou’s household registration being problematic, my mom would have changed my student status already.”

It was early January, with only three weeks left until finals.

As she spoke, Ning Chu pulled her scarf up to cover half her face.

Her cheeks were rosy, with her nose even redder, wearing a thick cotton jacket that made her look like a chunky penguin, while on her lower half she wore fluffy leggings paired with a long skirt that reached her calves.

The temperature hovered around ten degrees; if she didn’t have to hide her tail, she wouldn’t want to wear a skirt in this cold weather.

Fortunately, the leggings were thick enough that her legs felt no chill.

Wen Yang felt a bit tense; last time he clearly sensed that his future mother-in-law was not too fond of him.

“When is she coming?”

“Tomorrow noon,” Ning Chu paused, “Oh, by the way, Hei Dou is now called Ning Xin; Hei Dou can only be her nickname from now on.”

“Is she coming too?”

“Not anymore~ She’s busy with tutoring class every day now~ She’ll be in fourth grade next semester.”

Her tone was full of teasing and schadenfreude, making a little black cat turn into a cat girl—now who would be skipping school?

It was said that on her first day at the tutoring class, Hei Dou came home crying, rolling on the floor, refusing to go to school.

But the next day, when her mother brought home a bowl of boiled shrimp, Hei Dou happily went to tutoring again.

“How tragic,” Wen Yang couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking his head, “Can she even learn with that attitude?”

“My mom’s expectation for her is to eat, drink, and not go bad.”

“Hei Dou is nine now, at least that’s what her household registration says.”

As they spoke, Ning Chu and Wen Yang entered the cafeteria.

The cold air outside was shut out, the bustling cafeteria brought a wave of warmth, and Ning Chu, holding her textbooks, settled down in a corner alone. The lightheartedness from earlier when they mentioned Hei Dou quickly faded, leaving only worry on her face.

Final exams were coming up.

Yet she had no confidence in her studies.

Even though she completed a university degree in her previous life, that was not her current major!

Ning Chu anxiously flipped through her textbooks and Wen Yang’s notes, trying to make a last-minute cram session during dinner.

“I told you, just ask me if you don’t understand.”

Wen Yang sat down with a tray and handed Ning Chu a bowl of rice and a pair of disposable chopsticks.

“Aren’t you super busy?”

Ning Chu muttered; she could handle her previous major’s review, but reviewing English and Advanced Math was giving her a headache.

Each subject felt like a foreign language!

After taking a bite of a dish, she suddenly leaned toward Wen Yang and lamented, “Wen Yang~ I’m out of money~”

“Hmm?”

“I only made two thousand this month~ sigh~”

“You’re just trying to show off,” Wen Yang rolled his eyes at her.

“Look! My novel subscriptions dropped again! I can only make forty or fifty a day now!”

Ning Chu pulled out her phone, showing Wen Yang the subscription interface on the author’s backend, grumbling, but her body joyfully swayed lightly, her lips curling upwards.

Her novel was surprisingly performing well!

She thought she could just get by with full attendance, making around one or two thousand a month, but after a month of being published, she had earned a whopping two thousand three hundred in royalties! That was a record for her!

Though she’d have to wait until the 15th to receive the payment…

“Be content,” Wen Yang sighed helplessly, “I’m busting my tail working part-time outside, and I’m not earning as much as you sitting at home typing.”

Ning Chu triumphantly lifted her chin: “That’s right~ If I could earn a bit more, I’d write novels full-time!”

“That would be nice, not tiring at all.”

After dinner, as they stepped out of the cafeteria, Ning Chu shivered from the cold, clasping her hands together to warm her breath. A long puff of white mist fell into her palms, bringing her some warmth.

“Why is it so cold~”

She complained about the ghostly weather.

“School’s on a hill, so of course, it’s colder,” Wen Yang, whose body was warm as a furnace, felt no discomfort in the ten-degree temperature. “I heard it might even snow a little this winter.”

“I’ve never seen snow…”

Ning Chu instinctively moved closer to Wen Yang, trying to snuggle up to the “furnace” for warmth. She wrapped her arms around his waist, lifting his coat to slip her hands inside.

“Ah, that’s nice~”

She closed her eyes contently, leaning her face against Wen Yang’s back.

Classmates were already aware they were a couple. Though rumors still floated around, Ning Chu no longer cared.

“You’re making it hard for me to walk.” Wen Yang laughed as he turned around, noticing her face was flushed from the cold, “How about buying some gloves? Don’t get frostbite.”

“I don’t like gloves…”

“Once we get back, it’ll be typing and studying again~ So busy~”

Ning Chu embraced Wen Yang’s waist, warming her hands and shielding herself from the cold wind, and they leisurely walked towards the school exit.

It was only 6:30, yet the sky was already dim, with a bright crescent moon visible in the distant horizon, and the streetlights lit up early.

Taking the bus, they returned to their rental apartment.

As soon as they entered, Ning Chu took off her scarf, shed her jacket, and dove into the blanket.

Though the blankets were cold and damp, they were still better than the ghostly weather outside.

“Wen Yang! Come teach me Advanced Math!” She leaned against the headboard, waving her textbook at Wen Yang.

“I’ll use the bathroom first.”

“Okay~”

Ning Chu looked down at her book, but her mind wasn’t on studying.

After these past couple of months, she needed to buy new underwear again; she didn’t know if it was due to natural growth or Wen Yang taking care of her.

Getting used to her life as a woman had her feeling more and more like a genuine girl.

She casually picked up her lip balm and applied it to her dry, chapped lips.

Wen Yang climbed onto the bed and sat next to her: “Where don’t you understand?”

“This…”

“Remember, there’s a tuition fee.”

Ning Chu pouted: “Why’s your mind always all about the steamy stuff?!”

Quietly mumbling, she added, “Then I… tonight, I’ll use my mouth?”

Wen Yang shook his head, his hand already sliding under the blanket onto her thigh, clad in leggings.

“What else do you want?” Ning Chu frowned.

Over time, her skills had only gotten better, but Wen Yang’s resistance seemed to grow stronger.

This guy might be planning some new tricks!

Could it be that tonight he wanted to devour her?

Fear and reluctance swirled in her heart, yet alongside it was a tinge of expectation.

Ning Chu tightened her little face, trying to suppress that glimmer of anticipation: “You tell me.”

“First let’s study, then we’ll talk before bed.”

“We agreed after marriage… ” She suddenly stopped, a horrifying thought crossing her mind.

Was he talking about the aftermath?!

Oh no! I can’t accept that!
