Chapter 252

Chapter 252: Meeting the Parents

So, earlier, they were debating whether to let Wen Yang meet the parents when Ning Chu’s mother arrived.

Then suddenly, bam! Mom descended like a ninja, leaving no room for preparation!

Ning Chu looked at her mother on the roadside, elegantly dressed in a long skirt. She took a deep breath, ditched Wen Yang, and hurried over to greet her.

She flashed an obedient smile, linking arms with her mother: “Mom~ why so early?”

“Just worried about you, of course!” Mom replied cheerfully, her eyes quickly darting to the man Ning Chu had just been holding hands with. “Is that your boyfriend?”

“Uh… yeah.”

Ning Chu realized there was no point in hiding.

Besides, there was no need to hide anything; the only issue was that Wen Yang seemed overly nervous.

She waved at Wen Yang and introduced him to her mom: “This is Wen Yang, my classmate.”

“Oh~ he’s quite handsome!”

Though her mother’s smile was gentle, her eyes were scrutinizing Wen Yang.

He’s tall, probably close to six feet three, dressed simply yet dapper, with a strong build—though his face practically screamed ‘I’m way too nervous!’ The only worry was, he could easily be whisked away by other women because of his looks. But otherwise, not too shabby!

It’s only natural for girls to like handsome guys.

Mom gave Wen Yang a friendly nod, easing his anxious heart just a wee bit.

“Auntie, hello…” Wen Yang stuttered, standing before her mom, completely out of words.

Totally blindsided, he was unprepared for this!

Good thing he hadn’t been at gym class; if he had, the sweaty odor might have made his future mother-in-law cringe.

Mom nodded as if they’d exchanged pleasantries and turned to Ning Chu: “Why are you out of class so early? I was planning to drop by your school and call you around five or six.”

“Just one gym class this afternoon.”

“Oh, I see.”

Ning Chu shot a quick glance at Wen Yang, signaling him to sweeten his tongue a bit.

“Mom~ let’s take your car to the rental apartment! Hei Dou is waiting at home.”

“That name you’ve chosen…”

“Well, I’ll change it when we register Hei Dou.”

Mom sighed, shaking her head: “I barely got your brother and you raised—now you’re throwing me another hassle.”

Ning Chu chuckled awkwardly.

“If I raise that little cat well, maybe you’ll give me a grandkid next time~”

“…”

She knew Mom was just teasing, not complaining, but a light blush crept onto her face as she mumbled, “Nope, not planning to have kids.”

“Now, wait a minute! You can’t just skip having kids!”

Mom shot a glare at her daughter as they reached the parked white sedan.

“Whose car is this? A rental?”

“Your Uncle’s. I happened to visit your grandpa this afternoon, so I borrowed his car.”

“Oh~”

Mom turned to Wen Yang: “Can you drive?”

Wen Yang awkwardly shook his head.

“When you have time, get a driver’s license! Even if you don’t own a car, it’s handy sometimes.”

Mom offered this friendly advice, but Ning Chu could feel the chilly undertones in her words.

Ning Chu really couldn’t understand why her mother wasn’t pleased with Wen Yang.

In terms of looks, he could easily pass for a celebrity; in height and build, while not an athlete, he was solid. And personality, character, family… they had barely spoken for a few minutes—how could there be any judgment?

Mom got into the driver’s seat, and before she could close the door, Ning Chu leaned in and whispered, “Mom, do you not like Wen Yang?”

“Not really.”

That’s a yes, then?

Mom lowered her voice, “Too handsome guys attract bees and butterflies, and he’s too tall.”

Sure, he attracted attention, but that was Ning Chu’s problem…

And being tall? Isn’t that a plus? Though their height difference was a bit inconvenient…

Like when kissing… standing on tiptoes is exhausting.

And for pictures, they always seemed out of frame.

Ning Chu pondered this as she settled into the passenger seat and turned to see Wen Yang in the backseat, sitting stiffly, looking like he was about to explode.

It was the first time she saw him this nervous.

She couldn’t help but snicker mischievously, then turned to her mom: “Just drive straight down this road; I’ll tell you when to stop.”

“Is it far?”

“About ten minutes by car.”

During the drive, Mom casually glanced at Ning Chu, checking Wen Yang through the rearview mirror.

She could clearly see that her daughter was taking the relationship seriously—probably even thinking about marriage names for kids already.

“How long have you two been together?”

“A few weeks?”

Mom blinked in surprise: “That fast? You’ve liked boys before?”

“…”

Ah, there it was—the classic mom misunderstanding!

Though she had transitioned quickly, she’d still previously been a guy with a perfectly normal sexual orientation!

Ning Chu’s face turned crimson as she outright denied it: “My sexual orientation has always been completely normal!”

“Oh~”

Normal enough to fall for a guy right after turning into a girl, huh?

Mom nodded knowingly and continued, “Hey, Wen Yang, how old are you now?”

Wen Yang sat up straighter and seriously declared, “Eighteen.”

“Where do you live?”

“What do your parents do?”

“Oh~ I see…”

Clearly an interrogation, but Ning Chu started to sweat bullets, worried her mom wouldn’t be satisfied with Wen Yang’s family background.

She bit her lip, anxiously watching her mother’s expression.

You guessed it—there was a hint of discontent on her face.

After all, let’s be real; forget about the dowry and house; Wen Yang’s family seemed to struggle just to eat…

Ning Chu quickly interrupted, changing the subject: “Mom, Hei Dou loves to eat meat, and she likes fish and shrimp too.”

“She’s pretty well-behaved and doesn’t make a fuss…”

Mom sighed heavily: “You’re taking sides now~”

“……”

Thankfully, the drive wasn’t far, and Ning Chu spotted their familiar bus stop: “Mom, let’s stop near that bus stop; my rental is in the village behind.”

“Sure.”

After parking by the roadside, they all got out. Mom turned to Wen Yang: “You head upstairs first; I’ll go with Ning Chu to grab some snacks for Hei Dou.”

“Okay, Auntie.”

Wen Yang’s heart raced. He politely nodded and left.

Once he was far enough, Mom pulled Ning Chu aside, a worried expression on her face: “You need to be careful.”

“Uh?”

“He was like that back then, a poor kid, handsome too, but after a couple of years, poof! He ran off with another woman.”

“……”

That’s when Ning Chu finally realized why her father had left back in the day.

Let’s just say, men are indeed creatures of novelty…

But seriously, would he just run off? Mom, even at over forty, looked amazing—both in figure and in looks—still rocking that mid-thirties charm!

She looked at her mom, confused, and noticed her face turning a light shade of red, quickly averting her gaze.

“Or maybe he just wasn’t very healthy…”

So he bailed because you were wearing him out, huh!
