Chapter 232: Health Check-up
“Remember to mark me present.”
During the break after the first class on Thursday afternoon, Ning Chu poked Wen Yang’s waist, whispering a reminder.
“Don’t worry.”
She felt a bit nervous. Even though she often skipped classes in her previous life at university, this was her first time here.
And it was for the English teacher too~
Ning Chu looked up at the English teacher who had just walked into the classroom, dressed in a fitted skirt and black stockings.
For some reason, while other teachers might look like they just rolled out of bed, most English teachers seemed to be mature women in their thirties or forties, exuding charm.
Of course, in this world, most teachers looked above average—after all, it’s a Small Royal Text kind of setting.
But occasionally, there would be a bald middle-aged guy who looked like he walked out of some ridiculous H-anime.
It was like two extremes.
Ning Chu looked down and tugged at Yan Xinya’s arm: “Let’s go.”
“Yow~”
Feeling guilty, she stood up, and she tiptoed out of the classroom with Yan Xinya through the back door, covering her ears like a thief, afraid the teacher might notice her sneaking away.
Wen Yang looked back at Ning Chu and Yan Xinya leaving the classroom, then glanced at Lily, only to see her expressionless as she got up, hugging her textbook to her chest, and headed to the back of the classroom, sitting alone in the corner.
This girl was always so cold and distant, like an ice queen, yet she was quite popular in class.
“Ning Chu went where?”
Zhang Shaoqing finally asked.
Wen Yang could clearly sense that Zhang Shaoqing had been distancing himself from Ning Chu lately; he hardly ever saw the guy teasing her anymore.
This brought a wave of relief; guess he wouldn’t have to worry about Zhang Shaoqing trying to steal his territory.
“She went for a health check-up.”
“Health check-up?”
Upon hearing the class bell ring, Wen Yang just replied, not elaborating.
The English teacher was strict and initially required students to hand in their phones during class, but that rule fizzled out over time.
Unlike some teachers who let students do as they pleased and barely took attendance, her class required three roll calls to prevent anyone from sneaking away.
“Wen Yang.”
“Present.”
“Ning Chu.”
“Present!”
The English teacher raised her eyes, looking in Wen Yang’s direction, “Ning Chu.”
“……”
Wen Yang broke into a cold sweat as he was locked in the teacher’s icy gaze. He could only grit his teeth and call out: “Here.”
“Some students think I can’t remember who’s who.”
The English teacher lowered her head, marking Ning Chu as absent: “If anyone else substitutes for you next time, both of you will be counted as absent.”
She might not remember every student’s name, but a pretty little faux girl and a handsome guy who could compete with the school’s heartthrob were too distinctive—after a few months, she had memorized them well.
“That’s bad~” Zhang Shaoqing said, relishing the situation.
Wen Yang quickly composed himself: “It’s fine, I’ll go find the counselor after class to help Ning Chu get an excuse slip.”
“That old hag can write you an excuse?”
“I’m the class president.”
“Sounds suspiciously like a favours-for-favours deal~”
Ning Chu was still unaware that she had been marked as absent. Her face was etched with anxiety as she kept her head down, waiting in line with Yan Xinya for blood extraction.
“Don’t panic. Even if you get caught, it’s not against school rules to have check-ups with other classes~”
Yan Xinya noticed her tension and whispered a calming reassurance.
“I… I’m afraid of needles.”
“Fortunately, Wen Yang is pretty strong~”
Ning Chu’s face instantly flushed bright red, and she glared at Wolf Girl in annoyance: “Don’t let Lily corrupt you!”
“Totally! It’s all Lily’s fault for leading me astray~”
As the line moved forward slowly, she tiptoed and peeked ahead.
Wondering how much blood they would draw.
While deep in thought, she suddenly froze, staring at the staff member maintaining the order of the line.
That glaring red dress…
“Line up! No cutting in!”
“Hey, handsome, wanna add me on WeChat?”
“Hey, you! No cutting the line!”
Ning Chu was filled with question marks. She simply couldn’t comprehend this female ghost.
Was she genuinely addicted to mingling with school staff? Showing up so brazenly, chatting up boys, not even worried an exorcist might come and send her packing.
Then again, if she could handle it, this Succubus Ghost might actually enjoy it…
Yan Xinya followed her gaze: “Isn’t that An An?”
“You know her?”
“Yeah, I handle the dormitory utility bills, so I’ve run into her a few times at the Service Center.” Wolf Girl grumbled. “An An is more enchanting than a Succubus; she’d die without a man.”
“……”
“But she’s really nice~ Plus, she said she wants to be a counselor in a couple of years~”
This female ghost had probably embedded herself within the school.
Ning Chu hadn’t given the ghost much thought in the novel, but after hearing Wolf Girl’s comments, she started to suspect that this ghost might actually perish without a guy.
It’s only reasonable that a ghostly monster survives by absorbing a man’s Yang energy, right?!
And being overwhelmed with too much Yang from an exorcist could lead to soul disintegration—totally logical!
“You’re up.”
Ning Chu had unwittingly arrived in front of the blood-drawing doctor, her complexion paling. She sat down, turning her head in fear of the syringe, extending her arm onto the table.
“Take off your jacket and roll up your sleeves.”
“Okay…”
She handed her coat back to Yan Xinya behind her, took a deep breath, and clung tightly to her thigh under the table.
“Don’t be so nervous.”
The doctor tied a tourniquet around her right arm, glancing at her pouty lips and lowered brows, displaying a poor-me look before stoically inserting the needle.
Ning Chu shuddered, only to be steadied by Yan Xinya’s hand on her shoulder.
“All done.”
Feeling as if she had received a pardon, she scrambled to her feet, completely forgetting her coat, and darted over to the side of the blood-extraction line.
After a moment, Yan Xinya approached with a smile, handing her the coat: “I thought you would scream.”
“Impossible! I just feel a bit faint from needles.”
“And~ what’s that behind you?”
“Huh?”
As Ning Chu was getting dressed, she looked up to see Wolf Girl darting behind her and gripping her coccyx.
She jolted, her legs going weak. If Yan Xinya hadn’t anticipated and supported her, she might’ve completely tumbled to the ground.
“Sure enough! You’ve got a tail too! I was wondering what that bulge was behind you!”
Ning Chu caught her breath and retaliated by grabbing Wolf Girl’s tail.
Wolf Girl trembled slightly, her face flushing, but she didn’t react as dramatically.
“I’m not a Succubus~”
So Ning Chu yanked a few tail hairs out of her.
“Hey! My fur! I’m going to go bald!”
“Next time, I’ll use your fur to make a wolf hairbrush!”
“That’s weasel fur! What’s that got to do with me?”
Realizing her knowledge was exposed, she quickly shifted topics: “Let’s go, we need to finish the annoying internal check-up first!”
