Chapter 230: Ghost! 【2/20】
Well, look who decided to show up at the cafeteria today—Zhang Shaoqing!
He’s barely been here in months.
After a few people got their food, Ning Chu glanced at his bowl of bland soup, then quickly peeked at Wen Yang’s meal… This rich kid is actually eating worse than Wen Yang today!
At least Wen Yang has one meat dish and one vegetable! Zhang Shaoqing only ordered two veggie dishes.
“Hey, so Ning Chu, are you not going back to the dorm anymore?”
“Guess not.”
Wang Jie looked up, puzzled, “Why not? Did you find a girlfriend to live with?”
Zhang Shaoqing scoffed, “More like a boyfriend~”
“It’s super boring with just the two of us in the dorm.”
He threw his arm around Wang Jie’s shoulders, grinning, “Those two betrayed us! No worries, even if I find a girlfriend, I’m not moving out!”
“I don’t believe that.”
“……”
Ning Chu realized Wang Jie still doesn’t know she’s a girl.
This clueless guy probably never even suspected it.
Zhang Shaoqing seems pretty unreliable, always loud and chummy with everyone. Who knew he was actually keeping her secret?
“Is Wen Yang going back to the dorm tonight?”
“Uh…”
“Yeah, I am.”
Ning Chu answered for Wen Yang.
Wen Yang shot her a slightly resentful glance, while she shyly lowered her head and took a couple bites of rice.
She was mostly worried about not being able to handle her urges; if this keeps up, she’d be flexing like a mythical beast in no time.
And being pressed against him every night made her anxious about her body acting on its own and potentially doing something impulsive.
“Oh~” Zhang Shaoqing looked closely at the two, sensing something was off.
“Why are you eating just bland soup today?”
Ning Chu quickly changed the topic to avoid more questions from Zhang Shaoqing.
“Losing weight.”
“Or maybe you’re just out of money?” She grabbed her phone, “Want to borrow some?”
Zhang Shaoqing’s eyes lit up, but then he heard her next line: “Seven in, thirteen out—give you seven hundred, pay me back thirteen hundred. And toss in a fruit selfie as collateral. If you don’t pay me back, I’ll send it to your mom.”
“Get lost!”
He said that, but Ning Chu still transferred him a hundred bucks to save this guy from starving.
She still considered herself relatively wealthy; not counting living expenses, her mom gave her two thousand for rent, and she had a few hundred left. Plus, the five hundred from her brother was mostly untouched.
Wen Yang glanced at what Ning Chu was doing on her phone, a bit envious, but still asked out of concern, “So your mom cut off your living expenses?”
“Not really? I splurged on a few things last night and realized my card is running low.”
“……”
Ning Chu suddenly felt like asking him for that hundred back.
“I could have asked my mom for some, but we had a fight, so never mind.”
Zhang Shaoqing was still rebelling against his mother; he hadn’t gone back for a couple weekends now and stopped calling her to report his daily activities.
For him, it’s not about the money—it’s more important not to be controlled by his mom.
Ning Chu looked at Zhang Shaoqing and couldn’t find any negative emotions on that annoying face.
Only then did she relax, nodding, “Well, starve then, just pay me back soon.”
“I’m not gonna die from bumming food every day, plus cafeteria food is free.” Zhang Shaoqing said, casually stealing a piece of meat from Wang Jie’s plate.
With Wang Jie giving him a look full of disdain, he smugly boasted, “I can even get myself fat!”
Truly, people without shame are invincible.
Ning Chu quietly pulled her plate closer, casting a wary glance at Zhang Shaoqing, fearing he would snatch the chicken leg she saved for Wen Yang.
“Eat up, Wang Jie, let’s hurry back and game.”
“Ning Chu, I’ll pay you back that hundred once I have the money, thanks!”
She shot Zhang Shaoqing a look, “Just don’t bug me all the time.”
Before long, Zhang Shaoqing dragged Wang Jie away, and only then did Ning Chu feel safe enough to slide her plate over to Wen Yang.
She propped her chin on her hand, gazing at Wen Yang’s handsome face, “So, wanna go to the library later?”
“Yeah, or wherever you want to go, I’ll accompany you.”
“Hmm… Let’s just go to the library; I need to write my novel.”
“Are you actually writing?”
“What else? I need to make some money!”
Wen Yang dumped the remaining veggies and broth into his bowl, mixing it with rice, and devoured it cleanly in no time.
“Let’s go.”
The library was relatively quiet. Since it was mealtime, there weren’t many students around.
They settled down in a corner, and Ning Chu pulled out her phone, downloaded a text editor, then hugged her phone, staring blankly at the empty document.
Even though she had ideas, her brain couldn’t string together coherent sentences when it came to writing.
When she was writing small royal texts, it flowed effortlessly; she could churn out thousands of words in an hour.
It must be because she wasn’t used to typing on her phone…
Wen Yang noticed her spacing out but didn’t think much of it.
The idea of writing a novel for money sounded pretty unreliable. Given how easily she got distracted while gaming, it was hard to imagine her sitting still and focused on writing a novel.
He had no expectations for her writing endeavor.
“I’ll go grab a book.”
“Okay.”
Wen Yang stood up and walked towards the shelves, scanning the spines for something interesting.
He hadn’t gone far when suddenly he felt his foot kick something. Looking down, he realized he had kicked a girl in a red dress.
She was sitting on the floor, reading, and he missed her entirely.
“Sorry.” Wen Yang quickly apologized.
The girl looked up, revealing a familiar face and that familiar dip.
From top to bottom, that dip was enough to make anyone uneasy.
“Hey there, little brother? We meet again~”
It was that staff member he met at the service center, looking quite young even though she was already working.
“You…”
“I’m just organizing books!” The girl didn’t even bother standing up, pushing her prominent chest out and tugging at her work badge.
Librarian, An An.
Wen Yang’s usually smiling expression quickly cooled.
Even though his gaze instinctively wandered towards the enticing chasm, he backed up a couple of steps, kept quiet, and just politely nodded before turning to leave.
He hadn’t forgotten that when he met her at the service center, she had tried to invite him to spend the night.
“Hey! Don’t go~” An An lightly stood up, following closely behind him, “What a coincidence, we’re especially fated~”
“Why do you act like I saw a ghost when I see you? Why are you running so fast?”
“Seriously~”
As Wen Yang hastily left the crowded shelves and reached the reading area, he suddenly realized that the alluring voice behind him was gone. He turned around, only to find that the girl had vanished without a trace.
“Achoo!”
“Got a cold?” Ning Chu was already in writing mode, thumbs flying across her phone without looking up, “Do you want my windbreaker? I’m feeling a bit warm.”
“No need.” Wen Yang rubbed his nose as he sat down, complaining, “Just ran into a girl who wouldn’t take the hint.”
“!!”
Ning Chu perked up immediately, glancing around nervously, “Where is she?!”
“No idea. She just disappeared like a ghost.”
“Ghost?” She latched onto that word.
“Stop with the feudal superstitions.” Wen Yang lightly thumped her head, “I saw her before at the service center. The one in red, remember?”
“Ghost!” Ning Chu was even more convinced now.
So this little succubus girlfriend is all good and well, but come on, we’re in university. Why is she still believing in ghosts?
