Chapter 160

Chapter 160: 159. Wen Yang’s Preparation Before Leaving

For some reason, Wen Yang felt that Ning Chu’s attitude towards him had changed a bit.

It seemed… softer?

During class, he should have been focusing and taking notes, but his gaze kept wandering over to her.

Ning Chu still slumped lazily on the desk, showing no interest in class, occasionally yawning. But when she noticed him looking, her face visibly flushed pink, avoiding his gaze like a shy little kitten just returned home.

But soon, Ning Chu leaned over and whispered, “What days are you taking off?”

“Thursday and Friday, so I can go back for four days.”

“Four days!” Her voice rose uncontrollably.

“Uh?”

“Nothing.”

Ning Chu rested her upper body on the desk again, her heart aching at the thought of Wen Yang leaving for four whole days.

But Wen Yang was going to visit his uncle who was having surgery; the reason was perfectly valid, and she couldn’t bring herself to object to it.

She had never been apart from Wen Yang for this long…

What if during these four days, a bad woman seduced him and led him astray?

What if she encountered a pervert and couldn’t defend herself during these four days?

What if…

Her chaotic thoughts were interrupted as Yan Xinya’s words floated back into her mind over the weekend.

“Stop fooling yourself~”

It seemed like her only real concern was just not wanting Wen Yang to be away from her… There weren’t so many reasons to come up with.

Ning Chu lowered her gaze anxiously and cast another glance at Wen Yang.

But her gaze inadvertently met the warm yet possessive look in Wen Yang’s eyes, and she quickly shifted her attention to her phone.

“Who are you chatting with?” Wen Yang spotted the chatting software on her screen.

“I don’t know.”

“Uh?”

“Just a crazy person, really. They suddenly added me as a friend and said they liked me.” Ning Chu paused, observing Wen Yang’s expression which was barely holding its composure, “I just toyed with him a bit, chatting casually.”

She wanted to ask that weirdo what was so great about her anyway. Couldn’t he just back off?

“Delete him.”

Even though Wen Yang’s tone wasn’t harsh, Ning Chu obediently removed him from her friends list: “Oh.”

She couldn’t help it and leaned a bit closer to Wen Yang, whispering, “How about I go with you?”

Typically, when a guy brings a girl to the hospital to visit relatives, there’s a high probability they’re a couple, even if that’s not the reality.

Fearing Wen Yang might misunderstand, she desperately clarified, “If I go, I can look after you. You’re visiting your uncle, and I can just treat it like a little vacation.”

Seeing Wen Yang remain silent, Ning Chu timidly asked, “Is it not okay?”

“The problem is, what’s your excuse for taking leave… that old hag is hard to deal with.”

“True…”

Ning Chu was distressed, trying to come up with a reasonable excuse for leave.

The new counselor was particularly strict about leave requests, leaving many students grumbling, and the nickname “old hag” had started circulating privately.

Wen Yang managed to get two days off mainly because of his protagonist halo and good looks.

She sighed deeply, not wanting to show how much she didn’t want to be away from Wen Yang, but she didn’t have the same excellent expression management skills as Lily.

In the end, she couldn’t hold back, looking at Wen Yang’s face: “How about… you just don’t go back?”

Wen Yang lowered his head, gazing at Ning Chu’s face filled with longing. Her eyes held a glimmer of pleading, and she looked so pitiful, like a small cat about to be abandoned.

He almost agreed immediately.

But he shook his head, refusing, “How can I not go back when my uncle is having surgery…”

He hoped Ning Chu would understand his reasoning: “After my family left, if it weren’t for my uncle’s family, I might have dropped out of school and gone to work in middle school. Most of my living expenses now come from my uncle.”

“…”

Seeing the light in Ning Chu’s eyes dim, her head drooping in despair, Wen Yang could only harden his heart and comfort her, “It’s fine, just four days. I’ll be back soon.”

“Oh.”

It felt just like coaxing a little girlfriend.

Wen Yang sighed helplessly but suddenly realized that today, Ning Chu seemed a bit more straightforward than usual.

“What’s up?” He completely lost interest in class, tentatively asking, “Are you going to miss me?”

“Of course not!” Ning Chu jumped, shaking her head vigorously, then she looked down, softening her voice as she mumbled, “I just… worry that if I’m not around, you might be tricked by some bad woman.”

She had said the same thing last time.

But this time, she hesitated, bringing up that excuse again.

As Wen Yang was about to leave, that genuine feeling of loss and anxiety seemed to confirm that she had indeed grown accustomed to relying on him and could no longer imagine being without him.

“Alright.”

Wen Yang thought this girl was progressing, but she still had that stubborn streak.

“Leaving on Thursday?”

“The bus on Wednesday night.” Wen Yang checked the time, “I’ll bring my luggage to class on Wednesday and just leave after.”

“Oh…”

Ning Chu gazed wistfully at the teacher at the podium, resting her chin on one hand.

Thinking from another angle, she could perhaps use Wen Yang’s absence to train her independence!

Whether it was that she’d accidentally fallen for Wen Yang or if it was due to the high-risk environment created by the Small Royal Text that made her subconsciously rely on Wen Yang’s protagonist halo… As an adult, she couldn’t endlessly rely on someone like a baby needing care.

Besides, the Hypnosis Spray had already given her some self-defense ability, so she didn’t need to worry so much about being stalked by weirdos.

The only issue was, during these four days, she might suddenly feel something for Wen Yang in an unguarded moment due to him inadvertently disrupting some plot.

Thinking of this, Ning Chu turned to Yan Xinya: “Xinya, I remember there’s an open bed in your dorm?”

“Yeah, Ling Ling’s bed. She moved out with her boyfriend.”

“Then I…”

“Sure!”

Still living in the boys’ dorm, without Wen Yang’s cover, Ning Chu couldn’t trust Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie too much. After all, it took Wen Yang several rounds of testing to fully earn her trust.

Staying in the girls’ dorm would ease her mind considerably. She wouldn’t be worried about being taken advantage of, and even if she got caught doing something in front of the Wolf Girl and Lily, one wouldn’t care and the other, being a Succubus, wouldn’t have the standing to say anything to her.

“By the way, did they catch that weirdo who stole underwear?”

Ning Chu suddenly recalled this and worried about walking into a trap.

“Not yet.” Yan Xinya sighed, “I was planning to go to the security room later. Even if the footage is long, they should have seen it if they speed it up enough, right?”

“Yeah, I’ll go with you.”

Hoping they could catch that weirdo before Thursday.
