Chapter 154: Service Center
Usually, around eight o’clock, there’d still be students in the teaching building, but today is the weekend, so only the diligent students in the library remain.
Ning Chu rushed out without even taking an umbrella and now stands in the dormitory building lobby, looking out into the pitch black rainy night, somewhat awkwardly glancing at Wen Yang.
“Are you heading back?”
“Together.” She immediately moved closer, standing side by side with Wen Yang.
Though she was a bit hesitant to have too much close contact with him, sharing an umbrella seemed harmless enough.
Every time she passed the lobby, her gaze would always end up at the corner where the dorm manager uncle’s dormitory was. Through the window, she once again spotted that petite girl, excitedly sharing some funny stories with the uncle.
A rare pure love subplot; though the age gap is a bit much, Ning Chu had completely dismissed any thoughts of meddling.
Mostly because the punishment for disrupting the plot was becoming unbearable.
Walking into the pouring rain with Wen Yang, Ning Chu instinctively edged closer to him, and Wen Yang tilted the umbrella her way.
The small folding umbrella couldn’t accommodate two people, and just a moment after stepping into the rain, Wen Yang’s right shoulder was already soaked.
“Late at night, going out isn’t my favorite thing…”
Ning Chu mumbled. Although eight o’clock isn’t too late, the heavy rain made the night feel even darker, and nearly no other students could be seen on campus; occasionally, they’d spot a delivery guy draped in a raincoat.
In such a rainy night, one would normally feel anxious, but walking with Wen Yang, she felt more like she was enjoying a pleasant stroll in the rain.
After a few steps, her pant legs were already drenched, but thankfully she wore flip-flops, so she didn’t have to worry about soggy shoes.
“Wen Yang, let’s recharge the electricity fee soon,” Ning Chu warned, fearing he might have some wild idea, “What if we run into a ghost?”
“Feudal superstition.”
Totally doesn’t believe in ghosts, huh…
“Anyway, if you see something odd, just run!” Her tone turned serious, “I’ll cover your back.”
Wen Yang looked down at her little face, which was so serious, and couldn’t help but chuckle while nodding, “Sure, so at that time, I won’t help you?”
“Yes, don’t help me!”
After all this time, that female ghost has no records of hurting anyone; Ning Chu was unlikely to be in any real danger.
But Wen Yang was a different story!
She couldn’t bear the thought of her carefully trained Wen Yang ending up as the ghost’s dinner.
Besides, right now, Wen Yang wouldn’t stand a chance against the ghost! Even the battle-hardened male lead in the book had almost failed to drive the ghost away.
As the rain intensified, Ning Chu couldn’t help but inch closer to Wen Yang to avoid getting wetter.
Their arms occasionally brushed against each other, causing her to step back and adjust her position.
The campus, usually bright and lively, felt particularly dim under the heavy downpour. Walking out from the cramped little path of the dormitory, they moved towards the wide road, approaching the teaching building, which stood in the dark night with only a vague outline. Her expression gradually turned tense.
Ning Chu has always feared the dark, and now, going to the teaching building where the female ghost was supposedly lurking at night made her heart race, even with Wen Yang beside her.
Almost instinctively, she glanced at Wen Yang’s strong, muscular arm.
She wanted to hug his arm for reassurance, but the overly feminine gesture made her feel a bit repulsed, worried he might misunderstand.
Wen Yang had been observing her expressions, and noticing her unease, he reached out and draped his arm over her shoulder: “You’re afraid of the dark but out here at night?”
She froze for a moment, turning to look at the arm resting on her shoulder. The brotherly kind of body contact made her feel surprisingly comfortable, and she settled even closer to Wen Yang.
“I’m just not at ease when you’re alone.”
Wen Yang’s body temperature always felt slightly higher than Ning Chu’s, almost like a furnace. Just getting a bit closer made the chill leave her body, calming her previously anxious emotions.
However, a few minutes later, Ning Chu suddenly turned around, noticing Wen Yang’s chest was pressed closely against her back.
It just didn’t feel like a regular brotherly hug…
Wasn’t this like being embraced?
But when she looked up, the teaching building was just a few steps away.
Once inside the teaching building, Ning Chu hurriedly escaped from Wen Yang’s arms and glanced at the service center not far away.
“Why is there no online payment option… What if we run out of electricity in the middle of the night?”
Although she had complained about this before, feeling the dampness on her pants made her even more dissatisfied.
“Maybe the school leaders are out of their minds.”
After spending so much time with Zhang Shaoqing, Wen Yang had also started to blame all the school’s issues on the leaders.
He shook the umbrella, folded it up, and caught up with Ning Chu: “Should we grab a couple of books from the library while we’re at it?”
What he thought was a reasonable suggestion, but Ning Chu shook her head vigorously in protest: “No way!”
“What…?”
“Recharge and then we’re heading back.”
Wen Yang helplessly nodded in agreement.
The two arrived at the service center. He stepped into the small room, turning back to see Ning Chu standing at the door like a lookout, her little face tense, nervously glancing around.
Even though they were college students, she was still so superstitious.
Though he didn’t understand, her expression was rather cute.
Wen Yang approached the counter, leaned forward, and handed the dormitory electricity card to the girl inside: “I’d like to recharge.”
“How much?”
“Two hundred, I guess…”
As the girl took the electricity card, their hands accidentally brushed against each other. The cold, soft touch made Wen Yang instinctively pull his hand back.
He nervously looked toward the door, afraid Ning Chu might get jealous.
This staff member was quite pretty…
Even though she worked in the logistics department, the staff member responsible for charging looked no older than seventeen or eighteen. She wore a cute red dress, and from above, it was hard for Wen Yang not to be distracted by her deep cleavage.
It was a man’s instinct.
But he still felt guilty, quickly glancing away, his cheeks blushing faintly.
“Done.”
The girl behind the counter looked up, revealing her adorable round face, and cheerfully handed back the electricity card: “Hey little brother, why are you blushing?”
“Uh…”
Wen Yang awkwardly chuckled, reaching out to take the electricity card, but as he lightly tugged, it remained firmly in the girl’s grasp.
“Sister is so bored~ Why don’t you stay and keep me company?”
He hadn’t expected this twist, and glancing back at Ning Chu, who stood at the door, sent him into a bit of a panic.
“I-I have things to do in my dorm…”
“What could be so important? Sister here is all alone on night duty, so lonely~”
“I…”
After waiting for a while, Ning Chu turned back, only to see Wen Yang blushing furiously while being flirted with by the woman behind the counter.
She suddenly jolted and hurried over: “Are you done yet?”
What the heck! I can run into a woman trying to flirt with Wen Yang even here?!
Ning Chu quickly glanced at the name tag on the girl’s chest.
An An?
Such a casual name! Definitely a side character!
Wen Yang, feeling guilty, quickly pulled the electricity card from An An’s fingers, awkwardly explaining: “Uh, we were just chatting a bit.”
“Eh!”
The little virgin clearly couldn’t handle it!
He could handle girls of a lower caliber, but when faced with a bold tease of a higher level, he completely lost his composure.
