Chapter 111

Chapter 111: A Weekend Alone?

On Friday in class, Zhang Shaoqing was discussing weekend plans with Wang Jie.

“Tonight, the two of us brothers are going to KTV, then I need to head back for a bit. I’ll be back Sunday night to visit the elderly.”

“Sounds good, I happen to have some things to do this weekend too,” Wang Jie replied.

Ning Chu languidly looked over at Wang Jie.

What in the world could this couch potato do besides be dragged around by Zhang Shaoqing?

“I like this girl… it’s her birthday, and I want to go see her,” Wang Jie said shyly, “I also want you guys to help me think of a good gift.”

Wen Yang immediately perked up.

Ning Chu rested her head on the desk, utterly bored.

“Hey, is it a crush or are you two already together?” Zhang Shaoqing leaned in, playfully nudging Wang Jie’s shoulder. “Spill!”

“Girlfriend,” Wang Jie replied, smiling bashfully like a lovesick puppy, “but we’ve only held hands.”

Wen Yang’s jaw dropped: “Look at you, quietly surpassing us in the dating game!”

“We got together in high school.”

After a moment’s thought, Zhang Shaoqing slapped his thigh: “Then just get her a phone!”

“……”

Ning Chu suddenly felt like Wang Jie was in some danger.

The poor guy has only held hands and is in a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend.

In those small royal texts, this type of good guy usually ends up as the tragic figure, right?

But there’s barely any development for Wang Jie in the small royal text she wrote. If something goes wrong, it’s definitely not her fault.

“What does she look like?” Wen Yang jumped in, eager to gossip. “You never mentioned her before.”

Wang Jie pulled up a picture on his phone for them to see.

She was just an average-looking girl with thick glasses, but when she smiled, she looked exceptionally sweet.

Ning Chu exhaled in relief.

Thank goodness she wasn’t some supermodel.

But soon, she lost interest in Wang Jie’s affairs.

Wang Jie was off to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday, Zhang Shaoqing was going home to see the elders, and Wen Yang was off to be a tutor…

What about her? Was she really going to be left all alone in the dormitory?!

Just the thought of it made her anxious.

“Are you really going to be a tutor?”

After a moment, Ning Chu couldn’t hold back and gently poked Wen Yang, who was preparing his lessons.

“Yep, don’t worry, it’s a boy student, and his parents are both men. Four hours of lessons a day; I’ll leave at noon and be back in the evening.”

Wen Yang had done his homework: “I found the part-time job on a platform. The parents already paid, so after the tutoring is over, the platform will pay me. Won’t get scammed, just a service fee.”

He handed his phone to Ning Chu with a smile: “See? I’m already preparing the lesson content. The student’s in the second year of junior high and needs help with math.”

Ning Chu’s usual retorts were stuck in her throat, and she could only mumble, “The platform isn’t necessarily reliable.”

“Better than having no assurance at all.”

“I…” She felt flustered, lowering her head and biting her nails.

The real issue was, Ning Chu wasn’t worried about that.

In the plot, there were definitely moments where the protagonists gave hygiene lessons to senior high school students while tutoring, but this was a boy student, and even if he were a cute boy, he couldn’t possibly fulfill the role of that one character.

But the main thing is: being alone in the dormitory is terrifying!

With no protagonist around, who knows what could happen!

With Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie out, if something went down, she wouldn’t have anyone to help.

As much as Ning Chu wanted to say that she could just tag along with Wen Yang, needing to be a tutor was ridiculous; she could just quietly hang out at the student’s house watching TV and playing on her phone.

But saying such things would imply she couldn’t live without Wen Yang, that she’d irrationally cling to him even for work.

With a man’s pride, that was hard to ask.

“Isn’t it dumb? Ning Chu’s afraid to be all alone in the boy’s dorm~”

Both glanced over at Yan Xinya, who was sitting on the other side.

This wolf girl shook her head and explained, “Come on, it’s a boys’ dorm! It’s completely normal for Ning Chu, a girl… to be scared, right?”

Wen Yang was momentarily stunned while Ning Chu shook her head vigorously: “No way! How could I be scared?! Am I that kind of person?”

“I’m just worried about you getting scammed while doing this part-time job, okay? Since you’ve prepared everything, then you should go!”

Failing to support her friend!

Yan Xinya glared at Ning Chu with disappointment, and Ning Chu lightly kicked her ankle under the table.

Can you not stir the pot?

She was planning to subtly coax Wen Yang.

Now it’s a disaster, she blurted everything out in a panic.

Wen Yang also nodded with a smile: “Yeah, she’s not that delicate.”

While Ning Chu did seem a bit paranoid, she couldn’t be scared in a place where she spent all her time resting!

“Stupid straight guy…” Yan Xinya muttered under her breath, turning away. “Spoiled girl.”

The class bell rang.

With a worried expression, Ning Chu rested her chin on her hands, gazing at the swarm of students rushing out the door, letting out a deep sigh.

At least it was a dormitory; being alone probably wouldn’t lead to anything too crazy.

Better to worry about Wen Yang being seduced by some sly fox on his way to work.

Lately, she had loosened control over Wen Yang a bit, or maybe they had just gotten used to being inseparable. He had now taken to avoiding talking to girls.

As soon as she relaxed a little, Wen Yang decided to shake things up by becoming a tutor.

Ning Chu rubbed her temples, and when most of the people had left the classroom, she stood up, hugging her textbook to her chest to hide her nervousness.

“No choice—I’m really out of money for meals,” Wen Yang explained with a wry smile, seeing how distressed she looked. “If I don’t work part-time, I might starve. I can’t just keep mooching off you, right?”

I really wouldn’t mind.

“Um…” Ning Chu replied, leading the way out.

Noticing she seemed a bit upset, Wen Yang hurried to catch up, assuring her: “Don’t worry, on my way to tutoring, I won’t talk to any girls at all. If I see a girl, I’ll run away, okay?”

“I’ll leave at noon and get back around seven, plus I can bring you dinner.”

Ning Chu had the feeling this guy had already assumed the boyfriend role, judging by how protective he was acting.

She glanced back at Wen Yang, reminding him of their relationship: “If you meet a girl you like who’s a good person, go for it! Don’t miss out on a good girl.”

But whether she’s a good girl, that’s her decision to make.

“Uh-huh.” Wen Yang answered nonchalantly.

Walking back to the dormitory, Ning Chu couldn’t help herself anymore: “Are you really going? Why not we just go deliver takeout together? At least we’d get free food!”

“The pay for tutoring is better, and you delivering takeout…”

“What’s wrong with that! It’s perfect for building muscle!”

Wen Yang glanced at the weather forecast: “It’s going to be thirty-seven degrees the next couple days, and besides, only the new dormitory has elevators.”

“Forget that then.”
