Chapter 106: 105. The Woman
It might be the first time in her life that Ning Chu felt so nervous before taking a shower.
She opened the wardrobe, reached for a fresh pair of short sleeves and shorts, and then hesitated, standing rooted to the spot.
Now that she was a girl and had Wen Yang in the dorm who knew her secret, taking a shower in the dormitory didn’t seem like a wise choice at all.
But going to the hotel for a shower… that clearly wasn’t appropriate either.
She looked down at her legs.
Ever since she got the new accessories, she instinctively rejected them. Even using the bathroom was just a quick wipe, let alone studying or having thoughts about it in depth.
“Ning Chu, want to duo?” Wang Jie asked lazily, turning to her. “I’ll help you win.”
“I’m going to take a shower.”
Ning Chu lowered her eyelids and let out a soft sigh before clutching the change of clothes to her chest.
Grabbing the towel hanging on the other side of the wardrobe, she walked toward the balcony bathroom as if heading to the execution ground.
Inside the bathroom, there was a half-length mirror stuck on the tiles. It looked like it had been there ages, probably left by some senior, and was already somewhat cloudy.
Ning Chu hung her clothes high, wiped the mirror, trying to make it as clear as possible.
She leaned in close, nearly pressing her nose against the mirror, scrutinizing her current face.
Overall, her face still appeared quite youthful, oval-shaped, with soft and smooth lines. At first glance, she looked like a well-behaved and cute girl. But her eye shape resembled a peach blossom, the outer corners slightly upturned and often tinged with a faint blush, making her look both pitiful and alluring.
She looked like a 15 or 16-year-old junior high girl but had somehow applied nightclub makeup.
“Ugly…”
Ning Chu mumbled, unable to accept her appearance.
She looked like a green tea fox spirit at first glance!
Turning around, she checked the bathroom door again, ensuring it was locked, and grabbed a mop from the corner, propping it against the door.
After confirming everything was secure, she took a deep breath and shed her clothes.
Her upper body was pretty much the same as before—delicate arms, narrow shoulders, a slim waist, and a long navel adorning her belly.
There hadn’t been much change in the size up front, still that petite and charming appearance, just that the blush seemed to have spread a bit.
After taking off her pants, she took a couple of steps back, her legs tightly pressed together, albeit with a small triangular gap left between her thighs.
She lifted her head, looking at the naked person in the mirror.
What a stranger…
Who is this?
From a little boy to a young girl, she seemed to have experienced a lot, but it hadn’t been that long.
Like a blink of an eye, the person from back then was gone forever.
Her hand unconsciously touched the mirror, tracing the face of the woman reflected there, her heart racing as if she had been replaced, as if she had taken over the original Ning Chu in this world.
A chill washed over her, and Ning Chu controlled her breathing, fearing she would faint again in her naked state.
Looking away from the mirror, she chose to escape, just as she hadn’t taken a selfie in the past two months…
Shameful, but useful.
The warm water streamed over her, but it didn’t ease the cold within her; her heart was heavy with anxiety, her hand holding the showerhead trembling.
She hastily lathered herself with shower gel, deliberately avoiding the new accessories.
She spent ten minutes staring at herself in the mirror but only took three minutes to shower.
Ning Chu emerged from the bathroom with her hair dripping wet, silently tossing her dirty clothes into a basin to soak, leaning her elbows on the railing, and gazing up at the pitch-black sky.
Speaking of which, during her boyhood phase, her appearance was actually 80% similar to her previous life, or rather, she looked like herself in middle school.
In her past life, she began developing during middle school, dealing with acne, and her once-cute boyish face was ruined. After the crossover, for unknown reasons, she retained her undeveloped boyish image in her freshman year, but she knew she would ultimately be 175cm.
She had waited confidently for her development, only to bloom into a girl.
“Why aren’t you going inside?”
After staring blankly for who knows how long, Zhang Shaoqing’s voice came from behind her.
“Looking at stars.”
“What stars? There’s no such thing as a ghost star.”
Zhang Shaoqing hurriedly dashed into the bathroom, and less than half a minute later, he rushed back into the room, clearly still caught up in the game.
Before long, Wen Yang, with clothes in hand, went to take a shower but paused on the balcony.
He looked at Ning Chu, who was leaning against the railing and gazing at the sky, and asked, “What’s wrong? Feeling down?”
“Not really, just a bit… melancholic.”
The bad feelings from her shower session had faded away with the tranquil companionship.
“Melancholic?” Wen Yang took a couple of steps forward, leaning against the railing beside her, looking at the night sky. “Who upset you?”
“I just wonder, what will happen in the future?”
Ning Chu sighed in distress, “This world is so dangerous…”
Even if she had successfully disrupted every single plot in the book, she would still have to live in this world where without the protagonist’s protection, she could end up in serious trouble… just thinking about it sent shivers down her spine!
But Yan Xinya and so many other girls had never had the protagonist’s protection. Why were they fine? Was it because they weren’t part of the plot? Perhaps if she completely shattered all stories and freed herself from the role of a supporting character, the dangers around her would disappear?
But before that…
She glanced at Wen Yang, her mind racing.
“What’s with the look?” Wen Yang asked, confused. “It’s not dangerous. Isn’t the public safety pretty good? It’s just encountering a few bad guys occasionally; don’t be so alarmed.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Ning Chu nodded dismissively, then asked, “I was thinking… how about you give me something as a protective charm?”
A protagonist’s blessed talisman! Surely the protagonist’s halo should share some luck with her, right?
As for sticking around Wen Yang, going from roommates to colleagues and then to neighbors… well, it was possible, but the practicality was too low.
She had even more outrageous ideas, but she completely ignored them.
“Feudal superstition,” he dug into his pockets, finding them empty, then handed her a shirt. “Here, I’ll give you a piece of clothing.”
“Is this even useful?”
“Definitely not.”
But Ning Chu still snatched the nightgown from him and threw it over her shoulder: “What if it works?”
Wen Yang was dumbfounded: “Wait, don’t you have a nightgown?”
“The one I had… I threw it away after not wearing it.”
Nightgowns were too thin; wearing one without anything underneath was way too obvious— after trying on several sets, Ning Chu had discarded them all.
Now she had taken a looser, comfortable outfit as her nightgown.
Perhaps it was a psychological effect, but after draping Wen Yang’s nightgown over her, she did feel a little more secure and comfortable.
Wen Yang truly didn’t understand. He scratched his head, perplexed as to why after just a couple of words with Ning Chu, his nightgown had become hers.
What was this? Was she indirectly asking for a gift?
He suddenly came to a revelation but then fell into deep contemplation, pondering what to give Ning Chu as he walked into the bathroom to shower.
