‘Why are you coming at me?!’
The youngest god, Sedna, couldn’t hide her confusion as she watched the ship charging at her with insane speed.
It was bizarre even from a distance, but seeing it up close as it rushed forward with its mouth slightly agape made it all the more eerie.
Still inexperienced in her powers as a god, she could only stare blankly at the ship barreling towards her.
[How dare that cocky human aim for someone! I will make you the first sacrifice to announce our resurrection!]
With Egeir’s furious shout, a tidal wave rose up like a barrier, blocking the ship’s path. At the same time, Ran’s hand was creeping up from behind her.
‘What a thrilling situation.’
A tidal wave in front. A gigantic hand behind.
A classic ‘caught between a rock and a hard place’ scenario.
But if she were supposed to die like this, she would’ve been dead already.
Johann turned the ship sideways and cranked up the speed to the max. The sailboat, flying at unbelievable speed for a fantasy era vessel, barely dodged the coordinated attack from the two.
[You pesky little rat!]
[You’re only good at running away!]
‘I have to take one of them out quickly.’
While the pirate ships tried to draw aggro, they weren’t of much help just yet. After all, a ghost ship was still just a pirate ship floating on the sea.
But fighting against the sea was the destiny of a sea man. The hearts of the pirates, watching Johann’s back, revived with the spirit to roam the great ocean.
‘A man fights against nature!’
‘What’s one more death after already dying once!’
“Charge!!!”
A voice, unrecognizable to Johann, echoed among the ranks of the ghost ships. They all simultaneously steered their ships and rushed toward the young god. It was their judgment that they had to draw attention.
And Egeir couldn’t hold back his fury at the thought of ghost ships surrounding Sedna.
[How dare the remnants of the dead act so presumptuously!]
‘An opportunity!’
At the very moment Egeir’s fury was turned elsewhere.
“Rue! Target that little brat!”
[Okay!]
“Let go! Why isn’t my ability working?!”
Rue’s tentacles, lying in wait beneath the water, seized Sedna without hesitation. Sedna thrashed in panic, but Rue’s power over sea creatures had no effect on her.
She wasn’t a sea creature after all.
[Johann! I’m throwing it! Catch!]
With all its might, the Kraken swung towards Johann’s ship. Johann gasped in awe as he caught the young god thrown his way with a tentacle the size of a ship.
“How dare a mere human lay their hands on a divine being!”
“Shut up.”
Crack!
Johann’s hand ruthlessly twisted Sedna’s neck.
[How dare the dregs of Quartz lay a finger on the youngest!]
[Youngest!]
“Then you should have trained her better. How could you allow someone who can’t even use their abilities to join the battlefield? Isn’t your incompetence what killed her?”
If you’ve got a problem, don’t come back to this world.
He pinned Sedna’s corpse to the deck and locked eyes with Egeir, who was trembling at the top of the island.
His eyes were filled with hatred.
But Johann was undeterred, charging full speed towards the island where Egeir was.
For an ordinary ship, it would have been suicide, but…
Landing on the little island, Johann pressed his hands against the ground.
“Crafting.”
The little island completely reassembled itself into a shape resembling a monster’s mouth. Egeir, having lost a foothold, stared down at him with eyes filled with hatred as he fell.
[You shall never rest in death.]
Johann, feeling an ominous sensation, quickly jumped back onto his ship and retreated.
His instincts were yelling alarms like crazy. In a situation like this, following his gut couldn’t hurt. And as he backed the ship away from the island, the island crumbled as a gigantic Egeir pointed a finger at him.
[You pest. Even if we can’t dominate the sea, I will make sure you die!]
“Sounds fun.”
Was it adrenaline coursing through his veins? Even facing certain death, Johann could only smile softly. Perhaps bothered by his grin, Egeir reached out to him.
A hand so large it could easily crush a ship.
Johann attached a shovel blade to the World Tree, creating a gigantic blade. A blade as large as his own body. For a god of the vast sea, it’d be like a toothpick.
But, that didn’t mean his blade wouldn’t deal damage.
“There’s a saying where I come from.”
[What?]
Flames gathered on his sword. Egeir instinctively felt ominous dread from the intense flames that seemed ready to consume his blade.
He felt like he shouldn’t touch those flames.
‘Just an illusion.’
There’s no way a mere human’s fire could harm…
“A small pepper is spicy.”
Johann kicked off the deck and leaped. In a jump that was more astounding than flying, he landed on Egeir’s hand, dashing forward and began to carve lines of fire across Egeir’s body.
Lines of death that even a god wouldn’t heal easily.
[Aaaagh!]
“That’s a loud scream.”
But who would want to hear a mere man scream? Johann narrowly avoided Egeir’s other hand that lunged at him like trying to catch a mosquito.
[You! How dare you harm my brother!]
‘Oh right, I forgot about her.’
Suddenly recalling the presence of the aging goddess, he ducked just in time to evade her reach. He couldn’t afford to harm Egeir’s arm, so he was instinctively unable to deal a heavy blow.
Like a spring, Johann sprang back up and charged once again towards Egeir’s face.
At this rate, the situation was getting dire.
Egeir shrunk his body size in an instant to throw Johann off.
“How pathetic.”
Johann sighed as he fell from the heights into the sea, looking down.
If he fell into that water, he’d probably be dragged to the ocean’s depths.
But that was just a future for when he jumped into this fight alone.
Johann landed on the tentacle reaching out for him.
[You did well!]
“Yeah. Good job.”
[You’re quite persistent!]
Egeir loomed large again as he reached out. He couldn’t stay still now.
[Contractor, what will you do now?]
“It’s unfair to be 1 vs. 2, so I’ll make it 2 vs. 2.”
‘Though 2 vs. 2 feels a bit skewed.’
He glanced at Rue (the Kraken) and the numerous ghost ships advancing toward him.
It would be a tough fight, but victory was definitely within reach.
“Rue, throw me toward the ghost ships. And you, remain quiet underwater until I give the word.”
[Okay!]
Like a cannonball, he soared through the air. Johann felt a fierce resistance from the wind as he flew toward the ghost ships. He landed on the deck of a ghost ship, shouting to the restless spirits unable to leave the sea.
“Everyone! Prepare a charge against that giant scarecrow!”
“Ahooooy!”
In response to his command, the ghost ships all began rushing toward Egeir. The witch waved her hands, and the tidal waves crashed down, but the ghost ships pressed on, undeterred by the sinking and capsizing of comrades.
Thus, about fifteen ships emerged intact.
[You pesky little rat just keeps running!]
Johann frantically darted between ghost ships, disorienting Egeir and Ran’s gaze. Blinded by the rage of losing a sibling, both gods targeted only Johann.
This was why Johann smiled.
‘Nothing is easier than facing an opponent who has lost their reason.’
The one who remains calm until the end wins.
Johann called out to Rue, who was waiting in the water.
“Rue!”
Countless octopus legs rose from the sea, forming steps for him. Johann leaped up, racing once again toward Egeir.
Egeir, burning with fury at that sight, spread his palm wide and swung it down.
“Rue! Lower your legs!”
[Got it!]
Trying to swat away an annoying fly. Johann waited until that palm was mere inches away, then looked down at Ran’s hand rising from beneath.
“Rue, pull back!”
[Okay!]
Rue swam backward with him still on her legs. Egeir’s hand barely missed his face. And this was the moment he had been waiting for.
“I’m glad your hands are small.”
His sword grew larger, just like a massive sword wielded by a giant. The blade, maximized in size, cut through the air as it sliced down Ran’s hand.
[Argh!]
[Ran!]
Half of Ran’s hand fell into the sea, creating huge ripples.
[It hurts! It hurttttttt!]
‘For now, Ran won’t be able to join the fight for a while.’
Though he didn’t know if a goddess would suffer pain from the saltwater, Johann decided it was safest to put her aside for now.
What mattered now was Egeir, the eldest of the three siblings.
Johann pointed his sword at the frenzied Egeir.
“I’ll make sure you’re in the same predicament soon.”
The ghost ships had nearly closed in on Egeir while he was left all alone.
The battle was coming to a close.
