Chapter 122

“So this is Sophia’s Room.”

“Well, I haven’t used it since I was 13.”

After having a half-hearted lunch and chatting a bit, Kyle and I entered my room.

I still had a lot to discuss with my parents, but since I wasn’t going back right away today, it didn’t matter.

If that were the case, there would be no reason for me to work my butt off in Eristirol.

“Hmm… The bed is really small.”

“Yeah, I think it’s because it’s the one I used when I was little.”

“I guess so.”

When I was a kid, it felt huge, but now it looked tiny.

It was only big enough for two adults to barely fit.

For a little girl, it must have seemed massive, but now it felt cramped for me.

Or maybe it was because the bed I had been using in the castle was just too big.

The bed in my castle room was bigger than this, and Kyle’s bed was even bigger.

It could almost fit four adults without any issues.

“There’s nothing to see, right? That’s why I told you not to come. I left home when I was 13; what could be here?”

“Well… that’s true. It’s just a normal room.”

“Told you.”

My mom hadn’t cleaned the room, but there wasn’t much in it.

There was no reason for a girl to have a bunch of stuff in her room, and back then, I was pretty simple-minded.

At home, I just ate, slept, and spent all my time playing outside.

“My personality was even more of a pain back then.”

Maybe not as much as during my adventurer days, but still.

“But since this is where Sophia lived, looking at it like this feels nice.”

“It’s been a long time, though.”

“Sophia, do you prefer a room like this, or a glamorous one like the one in the castle?”

“Me?”

“Yeah.”

A room.

Honestly, I didn’t care either way.

Whether it’s a modest or a fancy room, for me, the most important part was that it was a place to sleep.

I always did my work elsewhere and never ate in my room. In the end, all I did in my room was sleep.

These days, it was just a place where Kyle and I relaxed together or cuddled, but still, it was primarily for sleeping.

“I don’t think it matters either way.”

“Really?”

“Yep, after all, I don’t show my room to many people, and I just sleep here anyway.”

“That’s true.”

“What about you? Do you like a fancy room?”

“Well, having a larger one could be useful for various purposes.”

Is that so?

I’m not really sure.

I never really thought about what I would do in a room.

Besides sleeping, I had no real thoughts about it.

“Hmm… I see.”

“Of course, a simple one would be fine too. If Sophia wants that, we could have a room like that.”

“What do you mean?”

“The room we’ll share together.”

“….”

What Kyle just said wasn’t merely about the room.

After all, I was currently staying in Kyle’s room.

So, what he meant by that wasn’t this room but a room we’d someday live in together.

Maybe… marriage…

“If it’s a small and simple room, it’ll be easy to snuggle up to Sophia like this.”

“B-but, your parents are outside….”

Kyle, who had been seated on a small chair in front of the desk, started to pull me close to him.

Since he moved next to me, it was obvious I ended up sitting on the bed together with Kyle.

As Kyle said… with such a small room, it was incredibly easy to be close like this.

Not that I had any intention to refuse or anything, but we were psychologically and physically close too.

“I-it’s better to do that when we sleep, right? Okay?”

No matter how much I liked Kyle, this was too much.

I liked physical closeness with Kyle, but doing something weird in front of my parents in the living room was a bit embarrassing.

“At night, kissing is totally fine, you know? Come on, can’t you hold off just a bit…?”

“….”

Kyle was just staring at me without saying a word.

It’s fine to do it, but I didn’t remember our house being very soundproof.

I didn’t recall it being particularly bad either, but just in case.

I really didn’t want the sound of me kissing Kyle or my gasps to reach my parents’ ears.

“K-Kyle is such a good boy… right?”

“Sophia.”

“Yeah?”

“You’re really making it hard for me to hold back.”

“W-wait?!”

*

“….”

“Sophia, your face is really red. Are you okay???”

“Y-yeah.”

I told him not to, but it happened.

It was just a short kiss, but it definitely made my face a little hotter than usual.

But I couldn’t just sit there in the room any longer.

If I stayed there too long, I might raise suspicion in a strange way.

“Dad said he’s going to the field for a bit; can you help him out?”

“Huh? All of a sudden?”

“Well, Dad’s getting older, you know. He seems to be struggling a bit lately. Just help him out a bit.”

“I mean, it’s not tough or anything. Kyle, do you want to come with?”

I figured Kyle would definitely follow me, but I still asked.

It might have been a bit uncomfortable for him since he was going with my dad and not just me.

Ah, but if he stayed home, he’d have to be with my mom, so wouldn’t that be even more awkward?

“Of course, I’d love to.”

Anyway! With that, we left the house.

Just a moment ago, I was wrapped up in kissing Kyle, but stepping outside made me completely calm down.

After leaving the house, we chatted with Dad a bit as we arrived at the field.

“Dad, it seems like the field has gotten smaller since back then.”

“Well, I’m getting older too. I need to work smart, or else your mom will be mad.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, the other day, she scolded me a lot for making the field this big…”

That might be true.

Dad isn’t as young as he used to be, so there was no need for him to manage such a big field anymore.

“But Dad, have we only made money from our field?”

“No.”

I had been curious about that for a while.

We seemed to do pretty well for commoners, but the only business I’d seen was this field.

I really didn’t understand how we were doing so well.

“So what does our family live on? I don’t think we could make enough from just this field.”

“…I’ll tell you when your mom is around.”

“?”

What on earth could that mean?

For now, we helped Dad with the farming.

Since spring had just started, it was the perfect time to sow seeds.

Kyle, being new to this kind of work, was carefully following Dad’s instructions.

Honestly, I found his clumsiness a bit amusing.

Seeing Kyle, who usually wore expensive clothes and lounged around, doing farm work was funny.

Kyle, doing farm work… straaaange.

“Pfft…”

Just a moment ago, he was making me blush with kisses.

“Ha… Hahaha!!!”

“Sophia, are you that entertained?”

“But it’s too funny!”

Kyle, wearing a shirt and black pants, suddenly donned an apron.

Not a typical housewife’s apron, but one to keep the dirt from sticking to his clothes.

Thanks to that, he looked nothing like his usual image.

How should I put it… he looked a bit like a simple, country farmer.

With the addition of being ridiculously handsome.

“Whew… I wish I had a camera.”

If only I could capture this moment and keep it for later, it would be so hilarious.

Of course, I had no intention of showing this to anyone, but it’d still be lovely to have.

“Kyle, if you’re struggling, should I help?”

“No, I’m fine. You just stay there.”

“Okay.”

I stood outside the field, watching Kyle.

To be honest, I wanted to help but someone said I absolutely mustn’t mess up my pretty clothes.

She was totally against me getting dirty, so I ended up staying here.

“Hey! Could you come over and help me with this?”

“Coming right now!”

Dad was treating Kyle very casually.

At first, I worried he might look down on him, but those worries were completely unfounded; he was being quite friendly.

Did he get more comfortable with Kyle while I was away?

It must be easy for guys to bond when they’re together.

“Kyle! Be careful! Or you’ll hurt your back!”

I called out to Kyle, who was diligently helping Dad.

Kyle hadn’t done this kinda work much, after all.

If something went wrong and he got hurt, it would be awkward in several ways.

I was supposed to introduce Kyle to my parents, but if they saw him like that… wouldn’t that affect my score in their eyes?

*

“Soon-to-be-son-in-law, eat this.”

“Oh, thank you.”

“….”

While eating dinner, I realized something.

Dad and Kyle had become super close.

Which made sense because they’d been working together, but they got closer than I expected.

It hadn’t even been a full day since they met, and already he was calling Kyle “son-in-law.”

Is it really right to address Kyle as son-in-law already…?

“Sweetheart, you didn’t exert yourself too much today, right?”

“…Yeah.”

“Good. Kyle? Thank you. This guy has been overworking in the field lately.”
