Chapter 596: I Should Go Home Now
On the bed, the petite Yi Yi’s face was pale, her lips trembling uncontrollably.
Beside her, Xu Hongyi looked equally anxious, her hand pressed against Yi Yi’s chest trembling slightly.
“How is this possible… There’s clearly nothing wrong.”
“Why, why is her life force continuously draining? We can’t even make up for it?”
Behind her, Young Master Sang quietly observed everything unfolding.
He could tell Xu Hongyi was genuinely worried.
She desperately pressed her hand against Yi Yi’s chest as if trying to force the life force back.
“Don’t panic yet,” Young Master Sang gently reassured her, “after all, Yi Yi is a wild Little Blood Demon; perhaps she has some congenital defect.”
“You’re a Primordial Deity and the lord of the Abyss Realm; if you calm down, I’m sure you can save her.”
Xu Hongyi bit her lip tightly and nodded.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes again, murmuring to herself:
“It’s not an illness… not a curse or a technique… nor is it a shortage of lifespan.”
“It makes no sense… why is this happening? How can life force just vanish into thin air?”
“There must be something wrong…” She bit her fingertip, her beautiful eyes filled with panic.
Young Master Sang was patient.
He didn’t rush her but quietly watched as Xu Hongyi racked her brain, pondering how to save Yi Yi, spiraling into despair.
Finally, as Yi Yi’s breath grew fainter, Xu Hongyi’s voice trembled: “If it comes to it, I… I could try using the power of rules—”
“Are you really going to do that?” Young Master Sang asked her seriously.
Xu Hongyi suddenly choked on her words.
… Her power of rules was restoration.
Indeed, she could use it to revert Yi Yi back to her original form.
However, all the joyful memories they made together over the past few days would vanish with it.
She would no longer be Yi Yi but a completely unfamiliar wild Little Blood Demon.
Xu Hongyi couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“Ugh…”
At that moment, the Little Blood Demon on the bed let out a painful whimper, struggling to open her eyes groggily.
Upon seeing Xu Hongyi, she murmured weakly in her childlike voice:
“Mommy… Daddy…”
“I’m in pain…”
Xu Hongyi’s beautiful eyes instantly turned red.
She clutched Yi Yi’s hand tightly, her head bowed deeply.
Young Master Sang was silent for a moment, placing his hand reassuringly on her shoulder.
Xu Hongyi slowly lifted her head, her eyes filled with despair and exhaustion, shimmering with sympathetic tears.
“Brother…”
“Can’t I save her?”
Young Master Sang didn’t respond.
Xu Hongyi’s gaze seemed to trigger some memories from his previous life; he gradually pulled her into an embrace, softly comforting her:
“Don’t worry. There will be a way.”
Xu Hongyi trembled slightly and nodded.
The empty room was left with only Yi Yi’s increasingly faint breaths.
It seemed the time had come; after a long pause, Young Master Sang suddenly spoke softly:
“Perhaps… we have one method we could try.”
Xu Hongyi raised her tear-streaked face.
“The biggest problem right now is that we don’t know why Yi Yi’s life force is fading.”
Young Master Sang said seriously, “But there’s a way to help us figure this out.”
“… The Causal Lotus.”
Xu Hongyi was momentarily startled.
It seemed she had almost forgotten about that thing.
After all, initially, the Causal Lotus was just an excuse for her to blackmail Young Master Sang. Since he’d regained his memories, she had nearly forgotten about it.
But she had to admit, Young Master Sang was right.
The Causal Lotus embodied the All-Powerful Rules; by using it, they could strip away all the causality entangled with Yi Yi.
Thus, they would understand why Yi Yi was losing her life force.
“But… but.”
Xu Hongyi’s beautiful eyes flickered with bitterness: “After all, the Causal Lotus is a power of the All-Powerful Rules. Unless I devour it, the only one who can use it besides the All-Powerful is you, Brother…”
“Then just devour it.”
“But, but that’s your thing, Brother.”
Xu Hongyi spoke hesitantly, “I just wanted to use it to lure you out; I never thought of devouring your rules…”
Young Master Sang remained silent for a moment, gently ruffling her little head.
“If that’s the case, I can come too.”
“After all, saving Yi Yi’s life is what matters most right now, isn’t it?”
Xu Hongyi hesitated, glancing at Young Master Sang.
His expression was still gentle, the warmth and affection in his eyes unchanged from their intimacy over the past few days.
After a moment of hesitation, Xu Hongyi finally slowly raised her hand.
A blooming lotus flower, shrouded in mysterious and profound energy, quietly hovered above her palm.
“Then this, I’ll return to you, Brother…”
She whispered, “Brother can use it to save Yi Yi.”
Young Master Sang nodded, reaching out to take the Causal Lotus.
Then, just as he was about to touch it, Xu Hongyi instinctively recoiled slightly.
Young Master Sang didn’t rush; he calmly asked, “What’s wrong?”
Xu Hongyi bit her red lip.
Her eyes looked as if they had been drenched in gloomy rain, filled with silence and bitterness, making it hard for her to lift her eyelids.
“Can… I trust you, Brother?” she asked, her whole body shaking violently as she spoke these words.
Her gaze toward Young Master Sang was filled with supplication and pleading.
“You won’t leave me, right?”
“I’ll be here forever.”
“Forever by my side, right?” Her voice trembled like never before.
Young Master Sang didn’t take it immediately; after a brief silence, he revealed a gentle smile.
“Mm.”
“I promise you.”
Only then did a faint, sickly smile appear on Xu Hongyi’s face.
“Mm.”
“I trust you, Brother.” Her smile sparkled with tears as she gently placed the Causal Lotus in Young Master Sang’s hands.
Then she turned away, continuing to clutch Yi Yi’s hand tightly.
“Yi Yi, don’t be afraid.”
“Yi Yi’s Daddy is a very capable person; he’ll make sure Yi Yi feels better soon.”
“Just hold on a bit longer; Daddy is coming to save you—”
Xu Hongyi’s voice gradually faded.
Behind her, Young Master Sang held the Causal Lotus but didn’t move, standing still in place.
He looked at Xu Hongyi with a gaze filled with depth and silence.
Xu Hongyi slowly turned her head.
Her eyes seemed to carry the last flicker of unextinguished hope.
“Brother…”
Please, her lips silently spelled out.
“I’m sorry,” Young Master Sang spoke softly.
Xu Hongyi’s body trembled violently.
“Yi Yi will be okay. Even without the Causal Lotus.”
“But I’m different.” Young Master Sang slowly raised his hand; a mask mode instantly enveloped his whole body.
“I can’t stay here any longer.” A rift opened in the space beside him, as the mirror power of the mask sliced a passage to the Abyss Realm.
“You need to face reality too.”
“I am not the First Deity/Demon. I am Young Master Sang. Just a small employee of the Punishment Department.”
“I have someone waiting for me at home.”
“And now,” he quietly turned, softly saying, “I should go home.”
Xu Hongyi parted her cherry-red lips, her hand grasping aimlessly in the air, but she caught nothing.
In the end, she could only watch helplessly as Young Master Sang stepped into the rift.
And then, he vanished without a trace.
