Chapter 590. Three Years Old
“Mom! Mom!”
Ning Chu, who was leaning on the couch and chatting with Lily over text, looked up and glanced toward the bedroom when she heard the call.
The little one, wearing shorts and a short-sleeve shirt, was waddling towards her with her chubby little legs, running excitedly.
At just over three years old, this age is the cutest phase for little girls—round little face full of collagen, big round eyes shining with innocence, already hinting at the potential beauty she would possess when she grows up.
“Slow down, don’t cry if you fall.”
Ning Chu reminded her expressionlessly, but the next moment, the little girl tripped over her own feet and with a ‘thud’, landed face-first on the ground, followed by a pout and a loud wail.
She sighed helplessly, feeling her blood pressure rising.
I seriously doubt I’m going to live many more years…
Ignoring her daughter who was rolling on the floor crying, Ning Chu continued discussing this year’s classmates’ gathering with Lily.
After a couple of minutes, noticing no one was paying attention to her, her daughter’s cries grew fainter, and so she wiped her clothes, sat up, tears still in her eyes, and continued to scamper over: “Mom~”
“What is it?”
“Where’s Dad? Isn’t he off today?”
Ning Chu’s lips twitched: “He’s gone to your grandma’s house.”
I clearly raised her myself since she was little! I spend every day with her, yet she still prefers Wen Yang!
Whenever Wen Yang is off work, this little one sticks to him like glue.
It feels less like having a daughter and more like having a rival in love.
Ning Chu looked down at her daughter clinging to her, asking, “I told you to slow down ages ago. Doesn’t it hurt from falling?”
“Not hurt!” her daughter answered confidently, a little bubble forming from her nose.
“Then why are you crying?”
The little girl’s big eyes rolled around hesitantly as she replied, “Fell already…”
Great! She didn’t inherit my toughness but sure learned to be stubborn.
“You’re starting kindergarten tomorrow.” Ning Chu pinched her chubby cheeks, “Are you excited?”
“Excited!”
Just don’t cry when the time comes.
Ning Chu still vaguely remembered her first day at kindergarten—crying and throwing a tantrum, refusing to go to school, so much that her mother had to threaten her with a knife.
“Go find Dad!”
“He’ll be back soon. We’re going to the market later to buy you a little backpack.”
Just as she mentioned Wen Yang, they heard the sound of the elevator door opening outside.
Wen Yang opened the door, and both the big and little demoness had already rushed to greet him at the entrance.
“Daddy! Hug me~ Let’s go buy a backpack!”
He picked up his rushing daughter in one swoop: “Alright, just wait for your mom to change her clothes.”
“Do you like your Dad that much…”
A soft murmur came from the side, and Wen Yang lifted his head, smiling as he asked, “Still jealous of your daughter?”
“Who’s jealous? I’m going to change clothes now.”
He hurriedly put his daughter down and caught up to Ning Chu, wrapping his arms around her from behind: “Come on, let me give you a hug too.”
“Like I’m dying for it?”
Ning Chu scoffed lightly, feigning a struggle as she was pulled into his embrace, and then she relaxed against Wen Yang’s shoulder.
“How about we go to a hot spring sometime? It’s been a while since we went to that one near Lily’s house,” Wen Yang whispered, “After the hot spring, you can go play with Lily.”
“But Shu Jun…”
“Let Mom or Grandpa take care of her.”
Their daughter tugged at Wen Yang’s pant leg, her eyes brimming with tears, looking up at her parents who were discussing leaving her behind.
Ning Chu was a bit hesitant about Wen Yang’s suggestion.
“She’s going to school tomorrow, right? We’ll drop her off, come back around ten at night; she’ll only be at Mom’s for a few hours. What’s there to worry about?”
“Um… well, I guess that’s okay?”
As soon as kindergarten was mentioned, she couldn’t help but complain: “Honey, the fees for kindergarten now are ridiculously high, almost a hundred thousand a year.”
There are good public kindergartens that are cheap and have excellent teachers, but you have to compete to get in.
This hundred thousand a year kindergarten was something she had evaluated after running around for half a year, considering various factors, yet the price still made her heart ache.
“It’s not that expensive, is it?”
“Very expensive, okay?!” Ning Chu rolled her eyes, “Is the big boss rich now?”
Wen Yang smiled wryly and shook his head, then playfully slapped little demoness on her bottom: “Go change your clothes, Shu Jun is waiting eagerly.”
“Don’t you dare hit me!”
Ning Chu immediately exploded, lunging at Wen Yang, and the two began a playful chase in the living room.
“Watch out! No-Shadow Kick from Foshan!”
She kicked out, only for Wen Yang to swiftly catch her ankle, leaving her standing on one foot, wobbling.
“Hey! Let go of me!”
Wen Yang was unyielding, poking the arches of her foot: “Still playing with me, huh? Have you had enough yet?”
The moment her sensitive arch was touched, Ning Chu lost all strength, collapsing onto the floor, her tail straightened, kicking and struggling while cursing: “Let go! I’m not done! Not done!”
Their daughter leaned against the wall, watching her parents’ playful fight with wide-open eyes filled with confusion. She scratched her head and mumbled, “So childish…”
She felt there was something different about her parents’ relationship compared to other households.
Though she couldn’t quite put it into words, it seemed more similar to best friends. Aside from when she annoys her mom, the atmosphere at home is mostly cheerful.
Finally breaking free from Wen Yang’s grip, Ning Chu was already laughing and out of breath, sprawled on the ground, panting heavily, her cheeks flushed.
She caught her breath and still wouldn’t give up: “Just wait and see if I’ll wear you out tonight…”
Wen Yang’s internal alarms went off, considering using hot-spiral therapy to deal with Ning Chu’s arrogance tonight.
Both Wen Yang and Ning Chu’s family situations were quite special; they didn’t know how other parents maintained their X lives after having kids.
Since their daughter was born, they had never felt free at home; they’d first have to put her to sleep before heading to the master bedroom, and even then, they had to be careful not to wake her.
Fortunately, their daughter was going to school from now on.
Ning Chu hummed as she got up from the floor, dashing into the bedroom. When she came out, her previously disheveled appearance had transformed into a gentle and graceful one.
At nearly thirty, even though her appearance and figure still resembled that of a young girl, she had already become a mother and deliberately wore a long dress to appear more mature.
“Come here, let me fix your hair.” Ning Chu greeted her daughter with a beaming smile, “Look at your messy hair.”
She had learned several cute hairstyles for little girls online and was ready to go through them one by one.
With a grimace, her daughter obediently walked over, turning her back to Ning Chu: “Mom, keep it simple…”
“Well then… how about a single ponytail? Wen Yang, you should get a single ponytail too~ So people can tell you’re all family when you go out.”
“They might think you’re my sister instead.”
“Isn’t that even better!”
Ning Chu smiled as she looked up: “Just look at you; you’ve got wrinkles showing.”
“Really?”
“A little! I told you to use some skincare products, but you never listen.”
“What does a big man need skincare products for?”
“I used to think that way too~ But see, I’ve developed a habit now?”
Her daughter looked up in confusion: “Huh?”
