Chapter 586: Daily Life of a Daughter
Groggily waking up, Ning Chu stared blankly at the ceiling.
She yawned and reached for the edge of the bed but grasped at air.
“Wen Yang…” she muttered hoarsely, trying to roll over and curl up, but as soon as she lifted her leg, the pain underneath stopped her.
Furrowing her brows, she instinctively wanted to check her wound, but the sound of a child crying “Wah wah” came from the living room.
Oh right… I’m a mom now…
It had only been a few days, yet it felt oddly like a lifetime ago.
Ning Chu’s fuzzy brain finally realized she had a baby, and the next moment, a wave of nervousness swept over her whole body. She sprang up in a panic, tiptoed barefoot to the door, and hurriedly opened it.
“What’s wrong?! Are you hungry?!”
In the living room, her mother was pacing back and forth, holding her adorable granddaughter. Hearing the question, she looked up and saw her daughter rushing over, disheveled.
“Slow down, your wound isn’t healed yet,” her mother chuckled, handing the child to Ning Chu. “Hungry? Wen Yang is warming up milk in the kitchen.”
“I’ll feed her. Don’t heat it up anymore…”
Ning Chu skillfully cradled the baby, turning her back to her mother to pull down her top and softly soothe, “Shu Jun~ don’t cry~”
She was quite capable; after Yan Xinya gave birth, she always seemed to have insufficient milk and had to resort to formula. Drinking fish soup every day didn’t help at all. Yet, just three days in, she already had enough breast milk to store in the fridge, giving her more time to rest—at least she didn’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to feed.
Maybe having a large chest really does make a difference in this regard?
Once the baby was fed, the sleepiness washed away completely. Ning Chu sat back on the sofa and laid her daughter across her lap, grinning as she played with her.
“Mom, doesn’t she have eyes like mine? Her nose looks a bit like Wen Yang’s.”
Her mother, sitting beside her, teased, “You were complaining about her being ugly at first.”
“Isn’t she all clean now? She was pretty ugly when she first came out~”
Wen Yang yawned as he walked out from the kitchen, having stayed up all night with their daughter, sporting heavy dark circles under his eyes.
“The milk is ready.”
“Drink it, Shu Jun is full now.”
“I…” Wen Yang awkwardly glanced at his mother-in-law, switching the topic. “Don’t you think the name feels a bit dated? Maybe we should reconsider? There’s still a month left.”
But clearly, his mother-in-law didn’t care about Wen Yang trying to drink milk; she only turned her attention to Ning Chu.
“I think it sounds lovely~ Way better than those overly common names, right?” Ning Chu murmured, a bit uncertain, “I thought about it for a long time…”
Wen Yang stood beside her, bending down to take a good look at the daughter resting on Ning Chu’s lap, secretly harboring doubts.
It seemed like his wife wasn’t really good at naming…
Look at the names in that little royal book; they all used repetitive characters, like Lily, Qian Qian, Wen Wen. That alone probably exhausted Ning Chu’s brain cells.
“Honey, how long is your maternity leave?” Ning Chu suddenly asked.
“Fifteen days. During this time, I’ll handle the nights, and you and Mom can take turns during the day.”
“Won’t that mess up your biological clock…?”
Wen Yang shook his head, smiling. “I fall asleep quickly and sleep lightly. If I’m woken up, I can sort things out and go right back to sleep. You, on the other hand, get woken up and can’t get back to sleep all night.”
“Just a couple of days since leaving the hospital, focus on resting. I’ll handle the nights.”
With their daughter just born, life was now all about eating and sleeping, nearing twenty hours of sleep a day, at least it was easy to manage, and she didn’t have to worry about losing her if she turned her head for a second.
“That sounds fine; just make sure to rest well.”
Ning Chu felt a bit restless as she placed her daughter in the cradle and hurried away to the bedroom.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m just going to…” She started to say but lowered her head and rushed into the kitchen, pulling out the milk storage bags and scurrying back into the bedroom.
Her daughter was eating too little, and her breasts ached.
These past few days had seen Wen Yang’s meals become much richer, and he said the taste was pretty good, without the alleged fishy smell—maybe it’s because she’s a Succubus.
It had been two or three days since they returned from the hospital, but Ning Chu still struggled to adapt to her new life.
It seemed like her life only revolved around her daughter; if she couldn’t see her, she worried, and upon hearing her cry, she got anxious. She’d even had less intimate time with Wen Yang, partly because her injuries weren’t healed and to avoid giving him any bad ideas, but also because her whole heart was focused on her daughter.
When she stepped out of the room again, her mother had mysteriously vanished.
“Where’s Mom? Did she go back?”
“Probably off to do something?” Wen Yang said as he handed the baby back to Ning Chu and grabbed a comb. “Need help brushing your hair? Your hair’s a mess.”
“It’s greasy… I haven’t washed my hair in days.”
Ning Chu held the baby and leaned down to sniff her collar, pouting in distaste as she sat down with her back to Wen Yang, “Be gentle.”
“Okay.”
After only a few strokes, a big handful of black hair got caught in the comb, and Wen Yang paused for a second, seemingly unfazed, casually tossing the hair into the trash, then flipping it over to cover it up.
Ning Chu, completely unaware, lazily leaned against Wen Yang’s chest, gently swaying the baby in her arms as she cooed, “Call Mommy~ Mommy~”
“She’s only a few days old; how could she possibly speak?”
“The more you hear, the more you learn~” she suddenly gasped in annoyance and slapped Wen Yang’s thigh, “Be gentler! It hurts!”
“I’m already being very gentle…”
Ning Chu huffed, cradling the baby while her thoughts wandered: “Honey, do you think she’ll be beautiful when she grows up?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Our genes are pretty good!”
“Too beautiful isn’t good, you know? Being a Succubus, it’s easy to be led astray.”
She sighed anxiously: “So I’d rather have a boy. It wouldn’t matter if he’s a little rough; as long as he can take a beating, it won’t matter if he struggles in school. He could always just go work on a construction site and not starve to death.”
Her thoughts jumped around, and she suddenly asked, “What if we have another son? Only having one child can be lonely, right? When they grow up, they can support each other, and if something happens once we’re gone, at least they can discuss it together.”
Wen Yang was left amused and baffled, “Aren’t you afraid of the pain? Just a couple of days ago, you said you’d never have another one. You cried like crazy in the hospital.”
But Ning Chu paused for a moment and shook her head, “I kinda forgot how painful it was…”
Maybe the pain reached its limit; in the delivery room, she was numb with agony, and now, even if she tried specifically to recall it, she couldn’t accurately remember how intense that pain had been.
It was as if her mind had automatically blocked out that memory.
“I was just saying that~ We can’t afford two kids in this house anyway~”
Ning Chu shifted her waist, settling into a more comfortable position against Wen Yang’s chest.
But her lower back felt a burning sensation, and the pressure against her tailbone brought about a wave of tingling that made her involuntarily want to rub against him a little more.
“Don’t mess around,” Wen Yang pressed down on his not-so-quiet Succubus.
“I’m not in the mood; the baby is asleep again.” Ning Chu looked down at her daughter sleeping in her arms, “And my mom isn’t here either…”
While saying this, her nimble tail was already teasing Wen Yang’s nerves, gently brushing against his lower abdomen.
“I’m hungry~”
