Chapter 576

Chapter 578. Wedding Arrival

Who would have thought back in the day that that boyish roommate would end up marrying another roommate and be pregnant too?

Zhang Shaoqing watched in disbelief as Ning Chu ended up in such a predicament, completely baffled by how it all happened.

Dressed in a sharp suit, he cruised leisurely in his car, glancing at the rearview mirror.

This luxury car was a special ride he prepared for Ning Chu and Wen Yang, forming a wedding convoy with five rented cars that snaked along the road like a long serpent.

“Wen Yang, are you nervous?” Zhang Shaoqing teased, “Share some insights, so I can prepare for my wedding!”

Wen Yang, holding a bouquet of flowers in the back seat, had his face twitching with nerves: “I’ve been married to her for years, it’s just a formality, what’s there to be nervous about?”

“Brother-in-law~ Sister got up super early to do her makeup!” Hei Dou in the passenger seat leaned back to look behind, “She looks like a fairy descending from heaven!”

She squinted with a smile: “You look super handsome today, brother-in-law! That suit suits you perfectly.”

The custom suit complemented Wen Yang’s physique, and a small red flower pinned on his chest signified his groom status.

“Does it match your sister?”

“Of course!”

Wen Yang gripped the door handle nervously, his right leg shaking non-stop as he cast his gaze out the car window.

They were nearly at the mother-in-law’s place; he couldn’t wait to see the bride-to-be today but dreaded the possible challenges he might face.

The bridesmaids were Qian Qian and Lily, the latter being more introverted and unlikely to cause trouble, but Qian Qian was unpredictable and could spring surprises.

The convoy pulled into the neighborhood and stopped outside the mother-in-law’s building.

Wen Yang opened the door and instinctively looked up at the window, where he could vaguely see a little head peering down.

“They’re here, they’re here!”

Qian Qian let out a startled cheer, sprinting toward the door: “Lily! I’m going to block the door! I’ll make sure Wen Yang pays up!”

“Wait, be gentle!”

Ning Chu worriedly glanced at Qian Qian; Wen Yang’s money was basically her money! This was just bloodletting!

She instinctively rose to check the situation in the hallway, but Lily tugged at her arm and dragged her back to the bedroom.

Yan Xinya hurried over, her belly prominent but her movements unaffected as she rushed about excitedly.

“Just sit on the bed and wait! We’ll handle everything outside! Lily, check Ning Chu’s makeup!”

“I’m on it.”

Ning Chu helplessly took off her shoes to sit on the bed, only to see Yan Xinya picking up her shoes with a mischievous glint in her eyes as she searched for a hiding spot.

“Seriously…”

They really should have simplified this process.

She knelt on the bed, hands resting on her belly, anxiously watching the closed bedroom door.

Lily carefully spread the hem of her traditional dress into a circular formation, sprinkling flower petals around her like a spirit in a flower grove.

“So, how’s your guy doing?”

To ease her tension, Ning Chu started chatting with Lily.

“Look up, touch-up time.”

She tilted her head slightly, feeling the brush of the makeup wand across her face, sending a tingling sensation that made her instinctively close her eyes.

“Is everything done except the final step?”

“Mm…”

“That was fast~ You sure got through that quickly~”

“Slower than when you did it.”

“……”

Ning Chu blushed in frustration and shot a glare at Lily.

But it was true; back when she started dating Wen Yang, the next step was moving in together off-campus, and aside from their passionate moments, they thoroughly explored everything else they could.

Cheers and whistles erupted from outside, and Ning Chu immediately straightened, sitting upright on the bed, straining to listen to the noise outside.

“Looks like a lot of people have come…”

She bit her lip unconsciously, then the bedroom door swung open, and seven or eight people burst into the small bedroom like a bunch of bandits coming to snatch a bride.

Wen Yang, at the forefront of the group, stared in awe at the bride-to-be sitting on the bed.

“Why the rush?” Ning Chu blurted, her eyes wide in disbelief.

“Qian Qian tried to stop me, but the password lock has my fingerprint.” Quickly snapping out of his reverie, Wen Yang walked up to the bed, extending his hand toward his bride, “Let’s go? My bride~”

“My shoes…”

Ning Chu looked helplessly at Yan Xinya.

“Need shoes? Go find them~” Hei Dou stood triumphantly, “Or you could choose between drinking and red envelopes; pick one! I’ve hidden them well~”

Qian Qian started a ruckus, while Lily quietly brought a tray of wine glasses to Wen Yang’s side.

With a sigh, Wen Yang dug out a thick red envelope and handed it to Qian Qian, taking a sip from the wine.

Ever since that day of day-drinking when they got their marriage license, he hadn’t touched white liquor again. Occasionally, when dining out with colleagues or friends, he’d just have some beer. But back home, if Ning Chu caught him, he’d get an earful.

That made it hard for him to adjust to the potent liquor, choking back a cough after a tiny sip.

“Why not just skip it?”

Seeing Wen Yang’s face turning red from coughing, Ning Chu desperately tried to dissuade him, but her whispers were drowned out in the clamor.

This guy Zhang Shaoqing, as the best man, didn’t help with blocking the drinks; instead, he was egging them on! Wang Jie was useless, completely out of place.

Ning Chu was getting anxious, watching Wen Yang struggle to finish another glass after barely swallowing the first. She couldn’t sit still anymore and quickly stood up from the bed.

Suddenly, the bedroom fell silent.

She knew this wasn’t the right move, her face flushed as her bare feet touched the bright red quilt, walking straight toward Wen Yang, slightly bending forward, her arms wrapping around his neck.

“Stop drinking, let’s go~”

Wen Yang understood, and amidst the crowd’s gasps, he lifted her effortlessly, cradling the bride like a princess and strode out of the bedroom.

With her face buried in his shoulder, Ning Chu couldn’t bear to lift her head, her ears turning crimson, ready to bleed.

The scene in the living room made her mother freeze; those who knew thought it was a bridal pickup, while those who didn’t might assume it was a forced kidnapping.

She knew Wen Yang wasn’t the type to do such things; it was more likely her daughter had taken the initiative.

Carried into the living room, Ning Chu looked up to see her mother’s disapproving gaze, shifting nervously closer to her, justifying, “I don’t like Wen Yang drinking.”

“You’re just eager to get married.”

“Aren’t we already married for years now~”

Her mother shot her a look: “How will you get down without shoes? Is Wen Yang going to carry you?”

“Right!”

Though it was said in jest, Yan Xinya had already found the hidden shoes and presented them with a look of disappointed regret.

Wen Yang obediently stood before the sofa, bending at the waist with a smile, offering tea: “Mom, let me toast to you.”

Her mother, maintaining a cold and dissatisfied expression, took the tea, giving Wen Yang a sidelong glance.

“Mom~ Why the stern face? It’s scary.” Ning Chu poked her mother’s side, “It’s a joyful day~”

This time, her pretended sternness couldn’t hold up. Her mother shot another annoyed glare at her daughter, whose elbow was nudging outward, but when facing Wen Yang, her expression softened into one of relief and resignation.

Honestly, she was quite satisfied with this son-in-law.

Though he had nothing in the past, over the years he had managed to build up a family business, and she had noticed how well he treated Ning Chu.

More importantly, after nearly a decade of being drained by a Succubus, Wen Yang showed no signs of any health issues. Before Ning Chu became pregnant, she often complained to her about Wen Yang being too vigorous, not knowing how to count his blessings.

After years together, she saw Wen Yang less as a son-in-law and more like a son.

Her mother smiled and waved at Wen Yang: “Sit down, why’re you so nervous? It’s not like we’re going to eat you.”

Wen Yang sat slightly stiffly, with Ning Chu on his left and her mother on his right.

“From now on, support each other and walk this life’s path together.”

Her mother clasped their hands, stacking them on top of one another.

“Wen Yang, from now on, I’m leaving Ning Chu in your care. Don’t let her suffer or be bullied.”

“Mom, don’t worry!”
