Chapter 557. Stepping into the Role of a Qualified Wife
It was rare, but Ning Chu, who usually steered clear of alcohol, had drunk herself half-sloshed.
She cupped her steaming hot cheeks in her hands, happily wagging her tail, her dazed and unfocused eyes fixated on Wen Yang.
Her peach blossom eyes were exaggeratedly wide open, trying to sharpen the double vision, but instead, her expression appeared both silly and cute, resembling a clumsy cat.
Perhaps it was Ning Yuan, her “old father,” wanting to vent his frustrations about his sister being taken away, who kept finding excuses to toastwith Wen Yang at the dining table.
“Brother-in-law, wish you both a hundred years of harmony! Cheers!”
“Here’s to you having children soon, cheers!”
“You two are truly a match made in heaven, let’s have another!”
Wen Yang didn’t bother to decline, and before long, he was buzzing from all the drinks lifted to him by Ning Yuan, yet he stubbornly kept drinking.
It wasn’t until Ning Chu couldn’t bear it anymore that she cast a longing look at her brother.
“Brother, stop picking on Wen Yang.”
Her voice had turned hoarse from drinking, lazily sounding like she was acting like a spoiled child: “Mom~ can’t you do something about him?”
The wine glass that Ning Yuan had just raised froze in mid-air; awkwardly, he put it down and muttered, “You’ve just gotten married and you’re already protecting your husband.”
“Isn’t it because you’re picking on him…”
Ning Chu yawned repeatedly, the alcohol making her drowsiness even more pronounced. If it weren’t for her cradling her face with her hands, she might have already nodded off on the table.
“Ning Chu.”
Lily poked her arm; most people around the table were strangers, so her voice was so soft it was almost inaudible.
“When do you plan on having kids?”
“In a few years? By then, you might still be single?”
Lily replied with a straight face: “I’m not interested in men.”
“How about we sleep together tonight?” Ning Chu leaned her head against Lily’s shoulder. “It’s late, and staying alone in a hotel isn’t great.”
“Wen Yang…”
“Let him sleep on the sofa~”
Lily’s eyebrows curved into a crescent moon: “So your wedding night will be mine?”
“It’s not even a wedding night, and Wen Yang drank so much; he definitely won’t wake up tonight.”
“……”
After drinking, Ning Chu seemed to have lost any sense of shame, daring to tell Lily anything. Luckily, their whispers were too quiet for anyone else to hear.
“You don’t know, right after we got the marriage license, Wen Yang dragged me to the hotel and worked me hard for half the day; I’m still sore~”
Hei Dou gulped down coconut juice, her cat ears perked up with curiosity.
“Oh~ I dragged him there… that hotel had some kind of romantic chairs~ super spicy! I’ve only seen them in adult animations before.”
Lily perked up in interest: “What kind?”
The two succubi excitedly whispered to each other while Hei Dou, curious, strained her ears to listen, only to be smacked on the head by her mother, pushing her cat ears flat against her head.
Hei Dou innocently looked up: “Mom, what’s wrong?”
“Why are you listening to their whispers? Cover your ears.”
“I don’t understand either~”
Seeing her flushed face, their mother shot her a glare, but her gaze was quickly drawn to the white liquor in front of her, which tempted Hei Dou to slyly stretch out her paw, dipping her fingertip into it and swiftly popping her finger into her mouth.
The sharpness of the liquor exploded on her tongue, causing Hei Dou to flail; she emitted a strange call, panting and sticking out her tongue, before grabbing the whole box of coconut juice and chugging several mouthfuls before she calmed down, with tears glittering at the corners of her eyes.
“If I tell you not to drink, you insist on sipping,” their mother sighed hopelessly, “Curiosity will get you in trouble.”
Hei Dou’s antics interrupted Ning Chu and Lily’s secret conversation. She looked over, reveling in Hei Dou’s misfortune: “I can’t even handle white liquor; how’s that for suffering?”
“Sister~” Hei Dou looked at her pitifully.
Ning Chu couldn’t be bothered to engage much with Hei Dou’s antics; her gaze shifted back to Wen Yang.
Wen Yang was nearly slumped over, his face flushed, brows furrowed, sitting unsteadily, his movements sluggish and stiff, as if he was completely out of it.
He probably wouldn’t even remember what happened right now by tomorrow.
Ning Chu felt a pang of sympathy: “Mom, how about I take Wen Yang back?”
“Anyway, we’ve eaten about enough.” Their mother turned to signal the server at the private room entrance, “Pack it up!”
Logically, this meal should have been paid for by the newlyweds Ning Chu and Wen Yang, but now she was concerned about Wen Yang’s state, wobbling as she braced herself on the table to stand up and hurried over to Wen Yang.
“Wen Yang? Wen Yang?”
She gently patted his shoulder, but there was no response.
“Brother, why do you have to force Wen Yang to drink!” She angrily glared at Ning Yuan sitting nearby. “Didn’t I tell you not to drink with him?”
Her little sister is mad at me…
Ning Yuan felt a sharp pain in his heart.
In his memories, Ning Chu rarely truly got angry at him except during childhood quarrels when they didn’t understand anything; most of the time, they had always fought playfully, after all, they grew up sleeping in the same bed and had a great relationship.
She really has become someone else’s wife now.
“It was actually him who insisted and dragged me to drink…” Ning Yuan tried to justify himself halfway through, but seeing the anger in his sister’s eyes, he took full responsibility, “I’ll carry him back; he’ll be fine after a sleep.”
“Drinking so much white liquor, aren’t you afraid he’ll end up in the hospital!”
Ning Yuan grimly nodded.
“At future weddings, you’ll have to cover for him; he’s bound to have a friend who’ll force him to drink.”
“……”
Among the group, everyone had drunk except for Lily. Although the Uncle and Ning Yuan had driven, they still left the car behind and took a taxi home.
Ning Yuan hoisted the nearly unconscious Wen Yang, while Ning Chu carefully assisted him from the other side.
As they took the elevator back to their door, Hei Dou dashed ahead and unlocked the door with her fingerprint: “Sister, where will brother-in-law sleep tonight?”
“He can sleep on the sofa? That way, if he throws up, it won’t be all over the bed.”
Once inside, Ning Chu sat down heavily on the sofa, clutching her head and leaning against one side, suppressing her nausea.
She had never consumed this much alcohol in her life.
“Lily, that’s my room.” She didn’t forget to extend hospitality to Lily, pointing towards the guest room, “You can wear my pajamas, and there are towels and a toothbrush in the bathroom cabinet…”
“I’ll go get it for my sister!” Hei Dou eagerly dashed out, “I want to sleep with you guys tonight!”
After resting on the sofa for a moment, Ning Chu stood up, grabbed the trash can, and moved to the other end of the sofa, tending to the slouched Wen Yang.
“Why drink so much? You’ll feel terrible tomorrow.”
Wen Yang, who had been silent, finally heard her murmurs and opened his eyes, weakly shifting his body: “I’m happy today…”
“Just being happy doesn’t mean you should drink like this.”
“Wife, water.”
“I’ll get you some.”
Ning Chu jogged toward the kitchen but felt dizzy, nearly colliding with the wall.
Their mother, looking exasperated, pressed her down: “Alright, go wash up and sleep; leave Wen Yang to your brother; they’ll both sleep in the living room anyway.”
“But… let me do it.”
Ignoring her mother’s words, she leaned against the wall and walked straight into the kitchen, carefully carrying a cup of hot water back to Wen Yang. She squatted in front of the sofa, worrying about him as she helped take off his shoes and socks.
Their mother crossed her arms, gazing at her daughter’s similarly flushed face from the alcohol, sighed.
Her daughter was learning to take care of others, stepping toward becoming a qualified wife.
It was previously unimaginable to see such a scene.
