Chapter 555. Daughters Shouldn’t Stay Home
“My daughter is all grown up and won’t stay put~”
Mom sighed helplessly at her phone while sitting on the couch: “Do you think there’s something wrong with her head? She’s so pretty yet goes for some poor guy?”
“Look at that An Han I play mahjong with; she’s not much prettier and got herself a rich second-generation husband. When she got married, the bride price was a whole house!”
“Even if we’re not talking about social status, Wen Yang’s family should at least have a home, right?”
“I don’t know what kind of magical soup they gave Ning Chu, but she’s hell-bent on marrying him. She even raided my closet! Help me fix it when you get home tonight.”
“What about me back in the day? Why are you dragging me into this!”
“Get over here tonight! I’ll teach you a lesson!”
Mom hit a sore spot, hung up the phone in a huff, and tossed it aside, leaning back on the couch in defeat.
That guy used to charm her online, so how did he turn out to be such a disappointment now?
She recalled how her daughter had dragged Wen Yang by the hand, eager to leave the house, and let out a deep sigh.
I should’ve seen this coming the moment my son turned into a daughter.
But I didn’t expect it to resemble my own past so closely; it was like witnessing my younger self.
Mom couldn’t quite wrap her head around it. Ning Chu only became a girl in her freshman year, how did she find a boyfriend in less than six months, and get married in just four years, becoming someone else’s little cotton-padded jacket? And what about her oldest son, Ning Yuan…
“It’s almost evening, and she’s still not back?”
Glimpsing at the time, Mom figured out where Ning Chu and Wen Yang had gone.
“She only comes home once or twice a year and spends every day with Wen Yang.”
She slumped back on the couch, calculating what time she should pick up Hei Dou, thinking about which restaurant to treat herself to for her daughter’s momentous event. Even if they couldn’t afford a wedding, they had to enjoy a good meal.
Just then, she heard the elevator buzzing outside.
As Mom stepped out of the kitchen, her healthy-looking daughter walked in, slightly wobbly on her feet.
As expected…
She immediately recognized where the two had been.
“Mom…” Ning Chu looked a bit pale, a flattering smile on her face as she wiggled her tail hidden beneath her skirt like a little dog, “Here’s the household registration book back for you, and the membership card.”
Mom glared at her with a dark expression, taking the items before turning to Wen Yang.
Gotta admit, this son-in-law has impressive stamina; he had exhausted himself last night but showed no signs of fatigue today and even managed to walk all day.
“You got the marriage certificate?”
“Yeah, you look…”
Ning Chu realized her actions were a bit overboard, avoiding her mother’s gaze as she fished the marriage certificate out of her bag to show Mom.
“You see…” Mom just glanced at the cover before shaking her head with a headache, “Just put it away.”
“Okay.”
She looked at Wen Yang again. Even though she disapproved of his family matters, she had to accept it now.
Wen Yang did have a decent income after a year of internship, more than ten thousand, but if he had to bear the burden of buying a house, that wouldn’t be enough.
“Earn more to buy a house, don’t let Ning Chu keep living in rented places with you.”
“Mom, I’ll buy one soon, probably nearby, so Ning Chu can visit you whenever she has time.”
Mom scoffed at his words but merely nodded.
Let’s be honest, although the apartment isn’t big and looks like it’s from last century, it’s located in the city center where new homes aren’t cheaper than thirty to fifty thousand. No way a fresh graduate can just work hard and buy it.
“Why hurry? The economy’s bad now, and house prices are dropping. Who knows, it might be worth a cabbage in a few years.”
Mom shot her daughter a heated glare, making Ning Chu quickly shut her mouth and look away.
“Dinner at home or out?”
“Let’s eat at home?”
Ning Chu worried that Mom might invite a bunch of relatives.
“It’s still a wedding!” Mom scolded, rapping her knuckles against Ning Chu’s head, “You think this is like buying clothes or groceries?!”
“Ouch, ouch, ouch!”
Ning Chu hugged her head, stepping back until she hit the wall.
It wasn’t really painful; Mom was just pretending, but Ning Chu faked an expression of pity.
“It’s settled then! Let’s go to a restaurant tonight!”
“Who are you inviting?”
“Your brother, your uncle, Hei Dou… ” Mom looked at Wen Yang, “What about you? Any relatives you’d like to invite over?”
Wen Yang thought for a bit and shook his head: “My uncles probably won’t be able to make it.”
“Then forget it.”
Mom sighed sadly: “What’s happening…”
Seeing her daughter foolishly tying herself to a man made Mom feel a mix of emotions, a bitterness she couldn’t quite express.
At least this son-in-law may not have money, but he’s strong and young, so hopefully, he won’t be drained dry by her daughter, unlike her situation back then.
She scrutinized Wen Yang, who wore an honest smile, resembling a big golden retriever.
“Make sure to exercise regularly, hit the gym, or you’ll end up getting fat after marriage.”
Having been through it herself, Mom gave the most sincere advice.
“I work out twice a week, don’t worry,” Wen Yang said, gently hugging Ning Chu’s shoulders, nodding with a grin.
Ning Chu just made a glum face. Mom had no idea that as a succubus, she was the one who couldn’t handle it, often begging for mercy with a hoarse voice while Wen Yang continued until she passed out.
“Let’s go pick up Ning Xin from school and head directly to the hotel.”
Mom turned to head to the bedroom to change.
“Thank goodness Mom isn’t too mad…” Ning Chu sighed in relief, ready to brace for her mom’s wrath.
Wen Yang also relaxed, plopping down on the couch with a wry smile: “I thought I was going to get beaten up.”
“Come on, with your tough skin, why would you be scared?”
Ning Chu sat down beside him, comfortably leaning on his shoulder.
“I’m so tired; we have to step out again later…”
Wen Yang gently stroked the little demoness’s head, the silky, smooth hair feeling like silk: “Give me a few years, and I’ll throw you a wedding.”
“Weddings are such a hassle; let’s just save the wedding money and travel instead.”
“You promised Lily and Xin Ya to invite them over for the banquet, didn’t you?”
Ning Chu paused: “That’s true~ I could also con them for some wedding gifts.”
This little demoness was quite lazy, finding the other women’s focus on a once-in-a-lifetime wedding a bother.
Wen Yang helplessly suggested again: “And wedding photos; let’s find a studio tomorrow and shoot a set.”
“Eh, that’s a hassle too~ and over several thousand, so expensive.”
“I’m worried you’ll regret it later; are you nuts?”
“You’re the nuts one! I’m just trying to save you money, alright!”
