Chapter Five Hundred and Forty-One: Bloodline
Ancestral Cang was not a happy camper.
But after swallowing his previous irritations, getting angry again now would just be a waste of effort.
Besides, what if the other party simply didn’t have any prisoners to interrogate at the moment?
He thought, “Let’s just wrap up the report.” That’s all Ancestral Cang could tell himself.
So, he started messing around with those annoying documents according to what Cheng Da Yong taught him.
And, well.
In half an hour, he successfully broke himself down.
“What a piece of junk!” Ancestral Cang angrily tossed the papers aside, “This is so boring! Whoever loves doing it can take over!”
“Where’s the part about intense torture and tormenting the fairy? Why is it all just clerical work? Young Master Sang, you tricked me!”
“Ah, that’s where you’re wrong.” Young Master Sang’s voice came through the communication device, “Don’t forget, the core rule of this game is to play as an ordinary person.”
“Ordinary life is like this. Even if you’re lucky enough to turn your hobbies into a career, most of the time what you do is vastly different from what you imagined.”
“I can only try my best to find a job that suits your wishes, but any job will come with burnout, and it’s common to not have prisoners to interrogate for a while.”
“You’ve lived so long as a god-demon, you can’t possibly lack patience for this, right?”
Ancestral Cang ground his teeth in frustration.
He had indeed lived a long time.
But it had nothing to do with how long. In the outside world, he could get what he wanted in the blink of an eye; spending even one second doing something he didn’t want to do was utterly disrespectful to himself.
Rather than saying he lacked patience, it was more accurate to say he simply had no desire to be patient with these lowly ants.
Ancestral Cang was now a bit regretful about joining this game.
But now that he had boasted, his pride wouldn’t allow him to back out.
“Fine.” He gritted his teeth, “I’ll wait a few more days.”
“Don’t let me discover you’re just fooling around!”
“Don’t worry.” Young Master Sang replied with an emoji.
——
——
In Young Master Sang’s office.
After shutting off the communication device, Young Master Sang let out a relaxed sigh.
…Ancestral Cang had one of the worst tempers among god-demons.
Even so, Ancestral Cang still bore through the game, gritting his teeth and holding it together.
From this perspective, his plan should be fine for the time being.
“The next step is planned for a month from now.” Young Master Sang muttered to himself, “Hope everything goes smoothly.”
“Smoothly what?”
The unexpected voice startled Young Master Sang. He looked up to see Xu Hongyi’s adorable big eyes sparkling at him.
“Uh, did you finish your work?”
“Finished!” Xu Hongyi chirped, “If I finish early, I can come accompany you sooner!”
Young Master Sang’s mouth twitched, and after a moment, he spoke earnestly:
“As someone who’s been through it, let me give you a piece of advice. Finishing tasks early in the workplace doesn’t mean more leisure; it means you can take on more tasks.”
“Is there anything else you need me to do?” Xu Hongyi seemed unbothered, her eyes showing a hint of eagerness.
“None.” Young Master Sang felt a bit intimidated by her bright eyes and waved his hand, “You’re free to move around.”
Xu Hongyi responded with a cheerful “Oh!” and then walked over to the nearby sofa, resting her chin on her hands and looking at Young Master Sang.
Young Master Sang: “…Why aren’t you leaving?”
“Why should I leave?” Xu Hongyi tilted her head, chuckling, “Didn’t you say I could move around freely?”
“Is just staring at me what you want to do during your free time?”
“Yep!”
Xu Hongyi answered with unabashed confidence, leaving Young Master Sang momentarily speechless.
…What exactly is her game? Young Master Sang found himself feeling a bit frustrated.
Just then, a knocking sound suddenly rang at the door.
“Young Master Sang, I brought you the Heavenly Punishment Department’s report.”
Entering was Shi Qingyan, holding a pile of documents.
The moment Shi Qingyan saw Xu Hongyi, her eyes suddenly turned a deep red.
“Ah, thank you, Senior Sister Shi.”
Young Master Sang stepped forward to take the documents, quietly asking, “Is everything okay at home?”
“…It’s okay.”
Shi Qingyan seemed to snap back from her daze, turning to Young Master Sang and murmuring, “But you really are something, Little Lonely hasn’t even been held by his dad yet. You would really just stay here and not go back to see him?”
“The first day is sensitive.” Young Master Sang explained helplessly, “I need to see for myself that these god-demons are willing to follow the rules before I can relax.”
“But it seems fine for now. I’ll go back to have dinner with you guys tonight.”
Shi Qingyan slowly nodded, but her gaze seemed to flicker towards Xu Hongyi.
Xu Hongyi sweetly returned a smile.
“Hello, I’m the new secretary hired by Young Master Sang. My name is Xu Hongyi.”
“You, hi.” Shi Qingyan slightly nodded but instinctively dodged eye contact, turning to Young Master Sang with a nervous expression, “Um, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back now.”
“Okay. Tell Little Ying that I want fish soup for dinner.”
Young Master Sang didn’t really pay much attention, only vaguely feeling that Shi Qingyan’s expression seemed a bit odd.
Once Shi Qingyan left the office, Xu Hongyi suddenly spoke up:
“Boss, can I wander around the company a bit?”
“Sure.” Young Master Sang was more than eager to have this somewhat neurotic woman out of his sight, “Just don’t cause any trouble, okay? I’ll be monitoring you.”
“Don’t worry.” Xu Hongyi winked.
After Xu Hongyi left the room, Young Master Sang anxiously stared at the communication device’s monitor for a while.
However, it seemed Xu Hongyi was only wandering around the Demon Cultivators’ building, even greeting everyone she saw, like an eager rookie in the workplace.
…Did I worry for nothing? Young Master Sang began to doubt himself.
——
——
Xu Hongyi hummed a tune as she wandered through the building.
In her red clothes, she looked like a lively little spirit.
But as she turned a corner, she suddenly stopped.
…Shi Qingyan was hiding in the corner, staring fiercely at her.
Her eyes were completely red, clearly transformed into her blood demon’s true form.
“Who… who are you?” Her voice trembled slightly.
Xu Hongyi didn’t say a word.
She simply smiled and made a shushing gesture towards Shi Qingyan.
…Shh.
He’s still watching.
This voice echoed directly in Shi Qingyan’s mind.
It wasn’t a spiritual sound transmission but rather a voice that seemed to resonate from her very bloodline.
“It’s you, huh. Little one.” Xu Hongyi turned her head, making a gesture of a warm greeting.
But Shi Qingyan’s mind echoed a different voice: “I need to thank you.”
“I originally left a seed in the Abyss Realm. I never expected it to take root and sprout one day, and you helped me find him.”
“You did quite well.”
“But, there’s just one thing you could have done better.” Xu Hongyi gracefully approached Shi Qingyan, leaning in close to her ear, her voice sweet:
“If you hadn’t touched him, it would have been even better.”
“Then… I wouldn’t have wanted to kill you.” Her gaze morphed into a similarly enchanting red as Shi Qingyan’s.
