Chapter 492. Night
Later, the sky turned pitch black. Ning Chu curled up her knees, hugging her legs, staring blankly at the ink-black sea.
Her shoulder-length hair was blown by the wind, and her cheeks felt damp and cold.
Behind her, the sounds of girls chattering and screaming filled the air, but she sat alone on the beach, burying half of her face in her arms.
Her mind kept replaying how the encounter with her father might unfold—what would happen, and how she should respond…
Perhaps her father had earned a lot of money outside and didn’t find a wife or have kids, but just came back with money to reconcile with her mother?
Or maybe he couldn’t make it outside anymore and had to return seeking help?
Maybe he had his own difficulties, which was why he hadn’t contacted the family for nearly twenty years?
Her mother already had a new Uncle, and if her father found out, could it lead to an emotional outburst or some unexpected incident?
How would he react to his son becoming a succubus daughter?
What did her father look like? Her mother, despite everyone’s objections, chose him back then. He must have been at least handsome, right?
Her mind felt chaotic, and Ning Chu shook her head, throwing those confusing thoughts aside.
It was probably best to let her mother directly divorce him!
That man, besides providing sperm, what relationship did he have with her?
Ning Chu had never considered the possibility of her father coming back, but now that the matter was at hand, she couldn’t let her mother bear it alone.
Moreover, there was a cat girl sister at home; she could already imagine Hei Dou’s bewildered and panicked expression.
As for her brother… who knows what he would think.
“Ning Chu~ Barbecue!”
Yan Xinya came over holding disposable bowls and chopsticks, grinning as she sat beside her. “What are you thinking? You seem off today. Camping is so fun! Why sit here alone in the wind?”
“I’m just a bit sleepy.”
Lily was grilling meat while the three of them played poker, and Wen Yang went to the walking street to buy them milk tea.
“Shall we go for a stroll at the street?”
Ning Chu shook her head, refusing the wolf girl’s invitation, lowering her head to take the disposable bowls and chopsticks, picking up a slice of grilled beef tongue and putting it in her mouth.
The taste of half-cooked barbecue couldn’t be too bad; the heat was just right, not so tough that you couldn’t chew, so it was quite good.
“It’s a pity we can’t have a bonfire; it would create more atmosphere. We could also hold skewers for barbecuing,” Yan Xinya mumbled beside her, piling up sand into little mounds. This girl seemed to have a hard time grasping the concept of worries; every day she acted loud and a bit neurotic.
What a Husky indeed!
“Sister Lily, is it done yet?” As soon as a round of poker ended, Qian Qian leaned over to Lily, looking at the already changed color of the meat.
“Almost.”
“So slow~”
She suddenly lowered her voice and whispered, “Use magic~ secretly use magic to grill faster~”
“……”
After the first batch of grilled meat was ready, the grill was heated to the right temperature; future batches wouldn’t need to wait too long.
Even then, Lily’s grilling speed couldn’t keep up with how fast a group of people could eat.
The group stared hungrily at the grill, their eyes on Lily as if they were looking at their long-lost mom.
“Ning Chu.” Lily picked up a skewer, wrapped in paper towel, and extended her hand toward Ning Chu.
“Mm, thank you.”
Yan Xinya immediately jumped up. “Lily really doesn’t love me anymore~ The first skewer isn’t for me!”
Ignoring the wolf girl, Ning Chu took a bite of the skewer and nodded to Lily, “Delicious.”
Lily gave her a subtle smile, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, and went back to her busy work.
You couldn’t tell she was a succubus; she looked more like that slightly introverted neighbor sister.
“Let me have a taste too!”
And Yan Xinya was probably that neighbor sister’s Husky dog…
All girls, yet how different can they be?
Ning Chu helplessly handed half-eaten skewer to the wolf girl, “Why are you in such a hurry? Isn’t Lily still grilling?”
“I’m hungry~ I’m starving!”
Just then, Wen Yang, who went to buy milk tea, returned holding several bags.
“Milk tea is here!”
Yan Xinya’s ears perked up immediately; she abandoned Ning Chu and rushed over, snatching a cup of milk tea and running off.
“I also bought some snacks.”
Wen Yang stood by the picnic blanket, distributing milk tea and snacks to everyone, and then approached Ning Chu, sitting down beside her.
“Here’s the jasmine milk tea you wanted, with coconut bits.”
“Good.”
“I also saw grilled sausages and egg burgers; I bought those for you.” He unzipped his coat, pulled out the snacks, and suspiciously glanced over at the side, “Hurry and eat a bit, don’t let Xinya steal it.”
His expression of having hidden treasures made Ning Chu chuckle, her eyes turning crescent-shaped with laughter. “She’s not a bandit.”
“Not too far from it. Try it out and see if it’s good; if not, I’ll give it to her.”
Ning Chu took a bite of the grilled sausage and frowned more and more. “Ugh~ So bad… so spicy!”
She quickly drank a couple of sips of milk tea to suppress the spice, but she was still sticking out her tongue, huffing breath and almost crying from the heat.
“I said mild spice… Did the boss not hear it?” Wen Yang muttered to himself in confusion, “Let me taste.”
“Xinya!” His face quickly changed, trying to maintain his composure, he called out, “Want to eat grilled sausage? I just bought it!”
“Coming, coming!”
Yan Xinya blew in like a gust of wind, snatching away the grilled sausage, and ran off in a rush.
In no time, the two heard the wolf girl screaming, “Ah! Water! Water! I’m dying from spice! These dog lovers are screwing me!”
Ning Chu and Wen Yang exchanged glances and both burst out laughing.
“You’re so mean~”
“Is that so?”
Lily raised her hand, offering a skewer toward Ning Chu, but looking at that couple chatting cheerfully, she opened her mouth but ultimately didn’t shout, handing the skewer to Qian Qian instead, grumbling softly, “Dog lovers…”
As the night deepened, the shops on the walking street were closing down one by one.
Qian Qian lost the poker game all night and dragged a few girls to a well-lit spot to play Mahjong, truly someone who liked to play regardless of skill.
The tent had a small night light on, and Ning Chu, who hadn’t had breakfast or milk today, was starting to feel sleepy, bundled up in her sleeping bag, unable to keep her eyes open.
The wind rustled the tent, and in the distance, they could hear Yan Xinya’s excited shout of “I won,” while Wen Yang sat inside the tent, his silhouette casting a shadow over Ning Chu beneath the nightlight.
“I’ll be outside; just call me if anything.”
After adjusting the small night light, Wen Yang turned back to remind her.
“What are you doing?”
Seeing that bright gaze fixed on her, he paused for a moment, sitting back down after having already lifted his behind.
“Not going anywhere; I’ll stay here with you. Just sleep.”
“Do you want me to tell you a little story or sing a lullaby or something?”
“Not a chance! Get lost!”
