Chapter 467: Wang Jie
At noon, Ning Chu saw Wang Jie again.
Wang Jie looked listless, with red circles around his eyes and a gloomy complexion. His footsteps were unsteady, like he might just collapse and die at any moment.
On Monday, he had always looked displeased under the pressure from his rabbit girlfriend, but today was a different story.
“I didn’t sleep well last night.”
Sitting in front of the computer, Wang Jie’s gaze was fixed, staring blankly at the game on the screen.
“What a trivial thing to bother you with,” Zhang Shaoqing said, casually standing behind him with his hands in his pockets. “Just get it over with; are you planning to raise it?”
“She won’t let me.”
“Damn it, women are just trouble!”
Wen Yang chimed in, “Just talk to her; haven’t your parents ever had to deal with how babies come about? Even if you have one, you can’t raise it.”
Ning Chu didn’t get involved there; after a long time, she finally sat at her own desk, looking at the dusty surface.
She listened in on the discussion while wiping away some of the dust with a tissue.
“Why does your wife insist on having it?”
Wang Jie scratched his head in distress. “She says it’s pitiful… I told her I want to get rid of it, and she just cried and made a fuss, didn’t you see before?”
“I don’t get what women are thinking,” Zhang Shaoqing turned to Ning Chu. “Hey, could you analyze this for us?”
Everyone’s eyes fell on Ning Chu at once; question marks appeared above her head as she stared blankly. “Huh?”
“Look at you, you clueless goose; you don’t seem capable of analysis.”
Rolling her eyes, she continued wiping the desk and said, “Girls are just more emotional, and being pregnant makes their emotions fluctuate a lot.”
Although she too thought they should get rid of it, she couldn’t completely disregard Wang Jie’s girlfriend’s feelings.
As a woman herself, she had been around long enough to recognize the physiological and psychological differences between men and women.
Perhaps it was the influence of estrogen; she had become more emotional, sensitive, and empathetic than before, and sometimes her feelings would uncontrollably swing wildly.
But having lived as a man for over a decade or two, she couldn’t suddenly be just like a factory-fresh girl.
So, for her, these changes were merely a slight annoyance, and she’d rather stew over her own headaches than worry about someone else’s.
“How do you think he should persuade her?” Wen Yang pulled a chair and sat next to Ning Chu.
“Well, at least let her calm down first; there’s no use talking for the next couple of days.”
After some thought, Wen Yang suggested, “Why don’t you hurry back and accompany your girlfriend, Wang Jie?”
“I still have classes.”
“Why would you even care about classes at a time like this? You’re not focused on them anyway.”
Ning Chu nodded in agreement, chiming in, “Yeah, didn’t you ditch class this morning? You skipped two periods.”
“I think you’re just avoiding the issue.”
Her little head shook rapidly, “Exactly! Not a man at all! Didn’t even think to take precautions; now that something’s happened, you’re just hiding.”
Wang Jie sat there in silence, staring blankly at the computer screen without refuting.
Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the dormitory door, interrupting their attack on Wang Jie.
“Takeout!”
“Coming, coming.”
Zhang Shaoqing scampered off to grab the takeout. Looking at the order, his excited expression vanished as he swore and dropped the takeout box onto Ning Chu’s desk.
“Yours.”
“Thanks.”
“Damn it, I ordered this takeout at eleven-thirty; how is it still not here?”
Ning Chu happily opened the bag and revealed a steaming hot stir-fried pork with green peppers over rice, topped with a perfectly fried egg.
“It smells pretty good; which place is this from?” Zhang Shaoqing leaned over. “Can I have a bite?”
“No way, if you want to eat, order your own.”
“Stingy!”
Ning Chu couldn’t care less about him, picked up her takeout box, and mixed the hot rice with green peppers and meat before shoving it into her mouth.
Eating in the dormitory always tasted better than eating out.
Especially when the other roommates looked on hungrily, their eyes practically drooling as they cursed the late delivery, every bite was more delicious to her.
“Wen Yang, what takeout did you order? Why hasn’t it arrived yet?”
“I ordered sour vegetable noodles with Shaoqing,” Wen Yang complained, “He insisted on teaming up with me to get a discount; I couldn’t refuse.”
“Let me try it later.”
Ning Chu glanced over at Wang Jie as she ate.
That guy was still the same as before—fixated on the game screen, not actually playing, just there, blankly wondering what was going through his mind.
This inward and socially awkward personality type was like this, quite twisted.
Even knowing what he should do and what was right, his personality always leaned toward avoidance.
Ning Chu’s “big sister” instincts kicked in as she saw her roommate struggling, feeling anxious and wanting to help.
This made the delightful taste of her rice bowl noticeably less enjoyable, especially when Zhang Shaoqing’s takeout finally arrived.
The rich aroma of meat wafted over, pulling her attention, making her lick her lips as the rice in her mouth felt even drier.
“Aren’t you and Shaoqing ordering from the same place? Why does he have beef rice while you have sour vegetable noodles?”
Wen Yang blinked in surprise, “It was cheaper.”
“With that look!”
His eyes sparkled with amusement as he directed a mischievous glance at Zhang Shaoqing.
Zhang Shaoqing immediately covered his beef, grumbling, “Hey! There’s hardly any beef! Don’t go overboard! If you want to eat, order your own!”
“Stingy!” Ning Chu proclaimed confidently. “I just want a piece of meat to try the taste!”
“Aren’t you the same? Wen Yang, are you a dog? Why do you listen to Ning Chu so much! Don’t come over here!”
Amid the ruckus, Wang Jie suddenly sighed and said, “Shaoqing, can you lend me some money?”
Everyone quickly stopped their bickering and turned back to serious matters.
“How much?”
He calculated, lowering his voice somewhat shyly, his face turning crimson, “Uh, maybe two thousand?”
“Two thousand? Is it that expensive for an abortion?” Zhang Shaoqing murmured while looking at his phone balance, scratching his head in embarrassment. “I don’t have that much cash; I just bought some shoes for over a thousand…”
Wang Jie immediately slumped over, laying his arms on the table, considering who to borrow money from.
As for Ning Chu and Wen Yang, the couple lived outside, and their expenses were high, leaving them both pretty broke…
But Wen Yang actively patted Wang Jie on the shoulder. “Why not think about borrowing from me?”
“Just save your money for Ning Chu to eat something good. Aren’t we all from the same dorm? You’re just going to have to get by on what’s left.”
“I swear! Wen Yang, have I really lost weight?!”
Ning Chu excitedly put down her takeout box and ran to the mirror to examine herself, pinching her belly over her clothes, only to feel dejected. “No, not really…”
That little belly was like a thorn in her side!
“Wang Jie is just exaggerating; besides, a bit of weight can look good,” Wen Yang reassured Ning Chu before continuing with Wang Jie. “I’ll transfer you the money later; two thousand?”
“Where did you get the money? Are you being kept by a rich girl?”
“Earned it working over the winter break.”
