Chapter 426. Neighbor
The second week after school started, it was already March.
The temperature began to warm up gradually; the thick down jackets were stuffed into the wardrobe, and the clothes turned lighter, so Ning Chu no longer had to dress like a bulky penguin.
Along with the warmth came the incessant rain and those water droplets on the windows and tiles that never seemed to dry—commonly known as the “return of southern weather.”
“It’s raining…”
On the messy bed, just as little demoness was waking up, she heard the patter of rain outside the window.
She opened her eyes and poked her head out from the warm blanket, her big, shiny eyes looking in the direction of the window.
In the past, spring was her favorite season.
The temperature wouldn’t be cold enough to cause frostbite, nor so hot that it made one uncomfortable; there might even be some light rain, and what felt most pleasant was listening to the sound of raindrops falling to sleep at night.
But now, she couldn’t be any less happy.
She looked down at the wrinkled bedsheet, still stained with dark and light spots, remnants of last night’s revelry.
If it rains every day, how will the sheets and duvet cover get washed?
Ning Chu stretched her hand, and with an effort, her slender waist and perky bottom tightened as she left the bed, her tail straightened, making her look like an arch.
“Ugh~”
After making an indistinct groan, she finally turned over to sit up, looking at Wen Yang, who was lying on one side.
“The clothes aren’t collected yet, are they? And also the duvet cover that’s drying on the rooftop.”
Wen Yang had just woken up, looking a bit sluggish as if he had sucked in too much air, staring blankly at the little demoness’s face.
“Wake up! We need to collect the clothes!”
Ning Chu was full of energy and shook his shoulder vigorously.
“Clothes?” He paused for a moment, then suddenly sat up, wearing only his big shorts, and dashed towards the window in a rush.
The security bars on their apartment window protruded outwards, with an awning above, but even so, the clothes hanging under the awning were completely soaked.
“Why not just leave it? They’re all wet anyway.”
“Let’s take them back and wash them again once the sun comes out? Otherwise, they’ll smell.”
Ning Chu also crawled out of the blankets, wearing a gray Stitch-themed pajama set and cotton slippers, bouncing to the window to help.
“I checked the weather forecast; it’s going to rain for at least the next week.” She said worriedly, taking the wet clothes and hanging them on the hooks on the wall, “We don’t have a dryer at home, and even if I change my underwear every two days, there won’t be enough to wear.”
“There are only two sets of sheets and duvet covers, and one is still on the rooftop getting soaked in the rain. We wasted another set last night… It’s all your fault! You made a mess everywhere!”
Wen Yang retorted, “Why blame me? Most of it was your doing, wasn’t it?”
Though it was true, Ning Chu still angrily kicked Wen Yang’s butt.
“Is there an umbrella at home? Should I go buy one at the supermarket?”
Once they finished gathering the clothes, Wen Yang turned to ask Ning Chu.
“Yes! I snagged one when we moved!” Ning Chu dashed to the wardrobe and pulled out a small folding umbrella from the corner, “I don’t even know whose it is; my umbrella is missing, so I just grabbed one.”
Her umbrella was most likely still in the dormitory; she just didn’t know who put it away.
“Let’s make do with this; it’s not raining heavily anyway.”
Ning Chu mumbled as she placed the umbrella on the table, picked up her phone, and turned to head to the bathroom to wash up.
Wen Yang followed suit, sidestepping behind her to pee with his back to her.
Having been together for half a year, and Ning Chu used to be a man, she was pretty casual about this.
But! If Wen Yang barged in while she was using the toilet, that was unacceptable!
That was the one thing she couldn’t stand! If she didn’t lock the door, Wen Yang often barged in while she was using the toilet!
Even though she didn’t remember how many times she had been caught off-guard, she couldn’t tolerate it anymore.
It was the same for showers; that made her feel faint.
Ning Chu peeked over, her corner of the mouth twitching as she spat out the foam in her mouth.
No matter how many times, she found it hard to believe she could fit Wen Yang inside her without a scratch…
“Hurry up; we need to leave soon.”
“Yeah, what do you want for breakfast?”
“Anything is fine… Since we woke up early today, let’s go eat at the school cafeteria.”
After washing up and tidying the messy bed, Ning Chu took her clothes and slipped back into the bathroom.
She wore a gray-black high-waisted pleated skirt with thick leggings to keep warm, and on top, she had a loose knit sweater, layered with a thick sweater underneath.
As she stepped out of the bathroom, she tugged her sweater and bounced in front of Wen Yang: “How do I look? Don’t I look particularly sweet in this!”
Ning Chu’s tail peeked out from under her skirt, excitedly swaying left and right. She spun around in front of Wen Yang and asked again, “Looks good, right? My mom bought it for me during the New Year!”
“Looks good.”
“Have you really looked, it just looks good?”
“Really! You’re like a natural hanger; everything looks good on you.”
“Right!” She beamed, pushing the door open, but then froze and quickly pulled her foot back.
Ning Chu saw the black cat squatting outside and turned to Wen Yang: “Did Hei Dou turn back into a cat?”
“No, right? I sent her a red envelope for a late-night snack last night.”
Wen Yang leaned over to look outside at the black cat, “It’s not Hei Dou; this cat has a white spot on its forehead.”
“Oh… come to mooch off some food?”
The black cat outside didn’t look like a stray; its fur was shiny and sleek, showing no signs of being fearful, just blocking the doorway as if it had something to say.
“Move aside; we don’t have any cat food or cat cans at home.” Ning Chu gently nudged it with her foot, “Don’t block the way.”
But the black cat stumbled a bit and immediately returned to its original position, staring intently at her with its big eyes.
“Kind of weird…”
“Sorry, that’s my cat.”
Suddenly, the door to the neighboring room swung open, and a slender girl in a JK uniform rushed out, her face flushed as she scooped the cat back up.
“!!!”
Ning Chu instantly perked up, her eyes scanning quickly as she caught on to the clues.
She tiptoed closer and whispered in Wen Yang’s ear, “She’s a side character!”
“How did you know?”
“Just look at her vibe! I can tell at a glance!”
At first glance, that girl’s looks could rival Lily’s! She had bright red short hair, and clearly wore the label of impoverished, definitely a character from some storyline!
If not, then she must have some serious misunderstandings about her own circumstances.
“When did she move in? I didn’t hear any noise.”
“Maybe it was on the weekend? I was at Xin Ya’s dorm all day on Sunday.”
Ning Chu and Wen Yang whispered to each other for two minutes without seeing the opposite door open again before they left the apartment and walked towards the bus stop.
Though another side character had appeared, Ning Chu wasn’t anxious at all.
If it was a side character being proactive, it just meant she had to play the role of a substitute in the storyline once more… as long as it could be handled within the apartment, she could manage.
After all, back when she wrote those little royal stories, she didn’t have any overly explicit tastes.
Wen Yang was even more delighted; he could see the little demoness blushing while unlocking new positions once again.
