Chapter 385: Guarding the Door at the Gate
A week later.
Myriad Thunder Abyss, at the foot of the mountains.
Standing at the foot of the mountain, gazing up at the dark purple peak towering into the clouds, scattered palaces and buildings dotted the mountainside.
At the base, a monkey-faced worker demon was absentmindedly spinning a pen around.
Before long, a bald, muscular man carefully made his way over. The little demon didn’t even lift his head and casually asked:
“Name?”
“Chaya.”
“Race?”
“Fire Ape.”
“Fire Ape?” The little demon looked up in surprise, “Wasn’t your group already here this morning? Did you fall behind?”
The bald man scratched his head awkwardly: “I got ostracized by a small group.”
“…Alright then. That’s pretty pitiful.”
After a quick registration, the little demon lazily pointed towards a mansion halfway up the mountain: “Your main group is over there.”
“Uh, is it possible… to not live with those guys?” the bald man cautiously asked.
“That’s not gonna happen.” The little demon shook his head, “Way too many clans are participating in this event, there aren’t any extra rooms for you.”
“If you really want your own place, just go steal a room.”
“Steal?” The bald man paused, “You can do that?”
“Of course.”
The little demon, impatient now, remarked: “Isn’t it all about the strong ruling the weak in the Demon Clan? As long as you’re strong enough, no one dares to say anything if you take their space.”
The bald man nodded thoughtfully, thanked the little demon, and slowly headed up the mountain.
While pondering, he suddenly heard a whisper: “Aren’t you planning to join the Fire Ape clan?”
“I was going to.” Young Master Sang shook his head, “But judging by that little demon’s words, as long as I’m strong enough, no one will mind if I take a place.”
“If that’s the case, then it’s better not to meet with the Fire Ape clan to avoid exposing the act.”
“Stealing a room from another clan isn’t going to cause more trouble?” Nian Nian questioned.
“Not necessarily. With so many demon clans attending, there are bound to be one or two soft targets.”
After a brief mental conversation with Nian Nian, Young Master Sang’s gaze shifted toward the remotest edge of the cliff:
“There, indeed.”
“That’s the Dog Demon clan’s residence. Their strongest leader is only in the later stages of transformation and is the weakest clan participating in this event.”
“Bullying them is only natural for all demons.”
“Let’s go for it.” Young Master Sang strode towards the destination.
Soon, in a secluded courtyard on the inner mountain.
Young Master Sang encountered a few scattered Dog Demons chatting idly in the yard.
Upon seeing him approach, they didn’t seem surprised at all but quickly got ready for battle, surrounding him.
“Kid, are you here to steal territory too?”
Hiding behind the other Dog Demons was an entirely snow-white creature wearing sunglasses, presenting himself like a gangster leader. He looked arrogant, chewing on tobacco and puffing out clouds while saying:
“Sorry, but this place has already been claimed by us Snow Wolf Demons. You’re late.”
“Of course, if you dare to mess with us Wolf Demons, heh heh.”
Young Master Sang studied the all-white demon carefully.
After a long pause, he couldn’t help but ask internally:
“…Nian Nian, is that a Snow Wolf Demon? Isn’t that clearly—”
“It’s a Samoyed. You guessed it right.”
Nian Nian replied wordlessly: “Clearly, this is just the Dog Demon clan putting on a show to scare off anyone trying to steal their territory.”
Young Master Sang: “…”
“Kid, why are you quiet now? Scared by our big brother Snow Wolf, huh?”
Nearby, a husky dog demon chimed in boastfully: “Do you know the reputation of our big brother Snow Wolf? He’s a legendary figure in the Wolf Demon clan!”
“He lost both parents when he was young, raised only by his grandma, and somehow became one of the top three powerful figures in the Wolf Demon clan!”
Young Master Sang: “Uh-huh.”
Keep it going.
The husky continued, almost in worship: “Big brother Snow Wolf is even a once-in-a-thousand-years great filial son! After achieving success, he took his grandma to live in a luxurious mansion and even got her two little dog demons as companions!”
“Uh-huh. Quite filial.”
“Now that mansion has two floors, big brother Snow Wolf lives on the first floor. The two little dog demons live on the second floor.”
“Uh-huh… Wait, what about his grandma?”
“She’s guarding the door!”
Young Master Sang: “?”
In that moment, Young Master Sang felt like his worldview was once again being bombarded.
“Kid.” The Samoyed arrogantly started, “If you don’t want to end up like my grandma, tied up at the door, I advise you to—”
Half a minute later.
Young Master Sang dragged the bruised and battered Samoyed past a pile of messy dog demons and slowly tossed him outside.
“Go keep your grandma company.”
Wiping his hands, Young Master Sang turned and entered the house, cleaning out the Dog Demon clan’s belongings.
I have to say, the Ancestor Dragon clan sure has deep pockets.
Even for a weak and fragile clan like the Dog Demons, their prepared guest rooms were all elegant and decent, and there was even a small pond in the back that could draw hot spring water from the mountain.
And soaking in a hot spring was Young Master Sang’s lifeblood.
Eagerly rushing to the pond, Young Master Sang suddenly stripped off his clothes and jumped in.
Immediately, every muscle in his body relaxed in the warm spring water, and he was so comfortable that he almost moaned.
“Ah~ So refreshing.”
“Aren’t you coming?” Young Master Sang called to the shadows not far away, “There’s no one else here anyway.”
Shi Qingyan slowly walked out from the shadows, glancing disdainfully:
“So small… Will we really fit in here?”
Young Master Sang looked down as well.
It was indeed a bit small.
Not that two people couldn’t fit in, but if they did, it wouldn’t guarantee nothing awkward would happen.
“It’s fine, I have a plan.”
Young Master Sang hopped out, wrapped a towel around himself, and kicked the mountainside behind the pond.
Like digging a hole.
Kicking out one hole after another.
“Since this spring can be drawn from the mountain, then there’s definitely a big pool upstream.”
Young Master Sang kept digging and soon arrived in the belly of the mountain.
Sure enough, deep inside the mountain was an immense lake, steaming hot and seemingly endless.
“Well, how about this? Is this enough to soak?”
Young Master Sang turned around, smug and ready to enjoy a cozy bath with Shi Qingyan.
But when he turned back, he found Shi Qingyan had vanished.
Instead, she was hiding far away in the shadows.
“Hey? Why are you hiding so far—”
Young Master Sang’s voice gradually faded.
He stiffened and turned, and saw countless rising mounds in the middle of the lake.
The mounds suddenly seemed to move.
Accompanied by violent tremors throughout the belly of the mountain, a pair of orange-yellow, lamp-like eyes as bright as amber slowly rose from the pond.
A blast of steam rushed towards him, and Young Master Sang finally realized those mounds were just the scales of this giant creature.
…It was a dragon.
A majestic, terrifying, and imposing giant dragon.
