Chapter 362. Grandpa and Grandma
Lunchtime.
Uncle and Wen Yang sat straight at the dining table, both feeling anxious and completely lacking the appetite to eat.
Compared to them, Wen Yang seemed more composed. After all, this was Ning Chu’s grandparents. He had already made peace with Ning Chu and his future mother-in-law, so the opinions of the older generation weren’t as crucial.
Instead, the uncle in his forties appeared more flustered, his expression frozen and serious, as if he were in a meeting.
Meanwhile, Grandpa and Grandma were observing the two of them while eating.
One was their daughter’s boyfriend, the other was their granddaughter’s boyfriend…
“What a swift development! I just heard about Ning Chu last month, and now she has a boyfriend this month.” Grandma muttered.
It seemed that Ning Chu had adapted quite well to her new identity as a succubus, so there was no need to worry too much about her mental health.
But it was happening a bit too fast… one might even wonder if she had liked men before or if she just had a female mindset.
Sitting on the couch with a bowl of rice, Ning Chu rolled her eyes in dissatisfaction.
I didn’t even get involved, so why bring me up~
Isn’t the most important thing right now Mom’s little boyfriend?!
“Sis~ I finished the meat!”
Hei Dou peeked over at the red-braised pork in Ning Chu’s bowl.
“Here, if you’re still hungry, go get some from the table.”
The dining table at home wasn’t big enough; a square table typically seated four, and six could squeeze in if they sat at the edges. But with eight people in the house, the already small living room felt even more cramped.
Mom stood behind the uncle, looking helpless. She wasn’t prepared to introduce the uncle to her parents, yet unexpectedly, there was a surprise attack on the first day of the new year.
Ning Yuan stood by the table, enjoying the spectacle and eating happily.
“You’ve kept this from us for six or seven years.” Grandpa put down his chopsticks and shot a glance at Mom.
Mom immediately tensed up, pursing her lips, her expression blank and silent.
Back then, her marriage wasn’t favored by everyone, yet she went against the pressure to marry that heartless guy, only to be left a widow a few years later, struggling to raise two kids.
That was her choice, but she refused to humble herself or let her family think she was having a hard time…
“Weren’t you saying that guy was off gallivanting in a foreign country, and he would be back in a few years? Why does he suddenly have a new girlfriend now?”
Mom turned her head away, defiantly silent.
Grandpa sighed, took out a cigarette, and mumbled, “You’ve spoiled her since she was little.”
Grandma shot him a look and got up to open the windows and doors for ventilation. “There are kids in the house, why are you smoking?”
“I can’t be bothered with you. You’re over forty, but act like a little girl.” Knowing his daughter’s temper, Grandpa extinguished his cigarette and stood up with a kind smile. “I’m just teasing my granddaughter…”
He rushed over to play with Hei Dou, who, seeing the old man, panicked and ran around the room.
Wen Yang breathed a sigh of relief, quickly wolfing down a few bites of rice, and then sat next to Ning Chu.
“Fortunately, Grandpa and Grandma’s attention is mostly on my mom.” Ning Chu looked towards the kitchen, where Grandma was pulling Mom and the uncle aside, not knowing what they were discussing. “Were you nervous just now?”
“Not too bad, just that Grandpa is a bit intimidating.”
“Right? After all, he used to run a business and had a lot of people under him~”
“Seeing your mom, I understand why you’re so stubborn.”
“Isn’t that just like my mom?”
Wen Yang nodded with a smile.
If he were to ask Ning Chu if she felt comfortable, even if the little demoness couldn’t cross her legs and turned into an exposed custard bun, she’d still roll her eyes, panting, and shout “Just okay” in a hoarse voice.
Not knowing what this guy was thinking, Ning Chu set her bowl and chopsticks on the coffee table and handed her practice book to Wen Yang. “Hey, this is your mess. You deal with it.”
“What mess?”
“Hei Dou finished all three practice books. According to the standard of two pages per meal, you owe her dozens of meals, and I’ve already covered six late-night snacks for you…”
Wen Yang’s expression nearly broke. “She finished it all in just a few days?”
“Yep, she even finished reading the Journey to the West you gave her and is now watching the 1986 TV series. I was thinking about whether to make her write a review to count as a meal.”
“……”
“Sis~ Grandpa keeps trying to rub my face!” Hei Dou ran over excitedly, diving into Ning Chu’s arms and burying her face in her chest.
Grandpa leisurely followed, asking discontentedly, “I’m your grandpa; what’s wrong with being close?”
“Your beard scratches my face!”
Hei Dou looked at Grandpa warily, gripping Ning Chu’s clothes tightly.
Grandpa wasn’t bothered by the little one’s dislike, happily sitting next to Ning Chu and turning to Wen Yang. “Introduce yourself. You’re Wen Yang, right?”
“Yeah… a college classmate, my roommate before. He took good care of me during school.”
“Does he know about your situation?”
“Yeah.”
Wen Yang politely nodded at Grandpa, “I pretty much know everything about Ning Chu.”
Though he was handsome, his demeanor wasn’t frivolous. His thick eyebrows, big eyes, and chiseled features easily won over older folks.
“You’ve brought him home; do you plan to get married in the future?”
Ning Chu blushed, nodding shyly.
Grandpa teasingly joked, “So soon? Don’t you want to play around for a bit longer?”
“I’ll have to wait until I graduate; that’s still three years away…”
Marriage certificates can count as credits, but Wen Yang didn’t meet the age requirement yet.
Plus, getting married too early made Ning Chu worry about being urged to have kids… She had a flexible bottom line regarding childbirth; initially, it was simply accepting her female identity, then liking men, and now becoming an exposed custard bun.
Nowadays, she just hoped to avoid having children altogether.
Sure enough, as soon as the topic of marriage came up, Grandpa immediately asked about the next step: “So, when are you planning to let me hold my great-grandson?”
“That… we’ll see?” Ning Chu blushed as she mumbled.
Now, Wen Yang had purchased extra-large condoms online, hoping to prevent any unexpected pregnancies.
But condoms weren’t very comfortable… it felt like a phone; if he weren’t worried about breaking it and not being able to afford repairs, he wouldn’t put a thick case on it. He preferred the feel and weight of a bare phone.
So Wen Yang was planning to buy some with spirals, bumps, and warming sensations to try out…
Seeing that Grandpa’s focus was not on her anymore, Hei Dou quickly wriggled free from Ning Chu’s embrace, darting off to find Ning Yuan.
Grandpa glanced at Hei Dou’s figure and then turned back to the few people in the kitchen.
He paused for a moment before asking, “What do you think of that guy?”
Ning Chu frowned, shaking her head. “I’ve only met him a few times… So far, he seems alright? He treats Mom pretty well.”
Grandpa looked somewhat discontent with Mom, frowning, but didn’t say much more. He just nodded, sighed, and took out a cigarette case and lighter, preparing to head to the hallway.
But Ning Chu suddenly remembered something and hurriedly asked, “Grandpa! Are we still going to your place to pay New Year’s greetings?”
“I knew you didn’t want to go!” Grandpa turned back and glared at her. “If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t see you until school starts.”
“As if!”
