Chapter 357

Chapter 357. Brother’s Year-End Bonus

Ning Yuan’s gaze wandered over the photo, occasionally landing on his sister in the middle.

I have to admit that Ning Chu’s looks and figure stand out among these three girls… but it just doesn’t pique his interest at all.

Strictly speaking, Ning Chu is his “sudden sister” type.

However, having grown up together, he knew all too well Ning Chu’s proportions, making it hard for him to see this pretty and charming girl as a normal woman.

Deep down, he still felt like it was just his little brother wrapped in a layer of girl skin.

Similarly, even though he knew their mother and sister were both succubi, it was hard for him to apply the stereotype of succubi onto them.

It mostly came down to the fact that they had spent little time together. Since his brother became his sister, their total time together hadn’t even been a week.

“I think… matters like these can’t be forced.”

Just a moment ago, Ning Yuan, who said he didn’t want to date, now had a somewhat unfocused gaze: “Didn’t I see photos before? With this meager salary, I really wasn’t planning to date; you can stop bringing it up.”

“The one on the right is named Lily, and she really wants to date~”

“She’s this pretty, she must have guys lining up for her, right?”

That was indeed true.

However, Lily’s personality is rather introverted; even though many liked her, few could strike up a conversation with her.

Ning Chu was about to explain when Ning Yuan quickly got up and rushed toward the kitchen like he was escaping: “Mom, what’s for lunch? I’m hungry.”

“Coming back and immediately shouting you’re hungry, did you learn that from Ning Xin?”

She looked at her brother’s retreating figure and mumbled, “Why’s he running away? So shy…”

“Brother is a hopeless otaku~” Hei Dou chimed in with a cute pout, having lost the pitiful look from just moments ago, trying to tie her tail into a bow.

“Which is a shame because my rich sister-in-law is gone.”

Ning Chu sighed. Her brother was quite handsome, gentlemanly, fitting Lily’s tastes; not mentioning marriage, just matchmaking would be pretty good.

But if her brother’s severe fear of girls didn’t improve, dating would probably be impossible.

“Lunch is ready.”

Due to Ning Yuan’s prompting, their mother had no choice but to bring out the partially made dishes to the table.

“Eat less at noon; we have a big dinner tonight.”

No need to call out specially; Hei Dou had already waddled over eagerly.

It was rare for the whole family to gather around the table. Their mother cheerfully ladled each person a bowl of seaweed egg drop soup.

“Mom, I got my year-end bonus.” After Ning Yuan had a couple of bites, as if recalling something, he stood up, saying, “I’ll go get it for you.”

“How much did you get?”

“Over ten thousand.”

What? So much!

Ning Chu jolted, immediately raising her head to look at her brother, her eyes sparkling with anticipation, which Ning Yuan quickly noticed.

“You think just because I have a bit of money, I’m trying to milk you dry?”

“That’s not it~ How can this be milking you dry? I’m just worried you won’t know how to spend this money.”

Ignoring his sister, Ning Yuan turned to the TV cabinet, opened his backpack, and pulled out a stack of cash wrapped in red paper.

“Cash?!” Their mother’s eyes lit up, but with a restrained smile, she said, “You don’t have to give me money; I’m not lacking. Just keep it for yourself.”

“Half for you.”

“Really, you don’t have to~ You child…” Their mother covered her mouth with one hand to stifle her increasingly uncontrollable smile, shaking her head in refusal, “Work is hard; spend your own money; save it up for when you get married.”

Ning Yuan acted as if he hadn’t heard her, placing half of the cash on the table.

“Hey~ I said no! I’ll save it for you to keep you from spending it carelessly.”

Their mother beamed, rejecting him but already reaching out to grab the money, subconsciously wanting to count it, then realizing it would be a bit embarrassing in front of her children, so she set it aside.

“Mom, you can’t give it to me; I really need the money.” Ning Chu reached out to grab it.

Her hand was swatted away, and their mother swiftly tucked the money into her pocket: “It was your brother’s for me, what’s that got to do with you?”

“Weren’t you saying you’re not lacking in money~”

“I’m saving money for your brother’s wedding! Plus, I have to take care of you and Ning Xin. How can I not be lacking?”

Look at this proud demeanor~ Ning Chu finally understood where her stubbornness came from.

She and Ning Yuan couldn’t help but burst into laughter, and their mother didn’t mind, happily taking the money out of her hand, counting it piece by piece.

Hei Dou looked up in confusion, not understanding what they were laughing about, her eyes rolling around, sneaking her chopsticks to grab the last piece of cola chicken wing and stuffing it into her mouth.

God knows what silly conversation they were having. The best food was all gone!

“Alright, from now on, don’t give me any more money, just this once.”

Once their mother finished counting, she was all smiles, pulling out a rubber band from who knows where and neatly bundling the cash.

Ning Chu caught her in a slip-up: “Mom, isn’t bro supposed to give you living expenses every month?”

“That’s different; the living expenses are for you and Ning Xin. How much can I spend?”

“True, you have Uncle~”

Their mother frowned, and Ning Chu immediately backed off, awkwardly changing the subject: “Hei Dou! Why did you finish the chicken wings? I only had one!”

“I figured you guys weren’t eating~”

“The kitchen has more; I’m going to get it.” Their mother got up to head to the kitchen while sending a voice message in their WeChat group, filled with complaints: “My son is being ridiculous, just coming back for the holidays and stuffing me with money. He gets mad when I don’t accept it. What do you guys think of this child…”

Ning Yuan dumbly interjected: “When did I get mad…”

By the time lunch ended, Uncle showed up with a big bag of New Year goods.

Their mother, holding that stack of cash, boasted to Uncle, her proud expression akin to that of a little girl.

Meanwhile, Ning Chu sat on the sofa, gazing at her mother who was gleefully laughing at the table, and Uncle who had a soft smile on his face, biting her lip while frequently glancing at her phone.

Wen Yang hadn’t come for lunch today…

If I couldn’t see Wen Yang at noon, I’d have to wait until eleven at night.

It had been quite cheerful during the meal, but now with her mother stuffing her mouth full, she felt a twinge of jealousy.

“Ning Chu, that account.”

“What account?” Ning Chu blanked for a moment, turning her head to look at her brother sitting next to her.

Ning Yuan seemed a bit embarrassed and shy, with a smile that had an additional hint of flattery: “The one, Lily…”

“Oh~ Didn’t you say you didn’t want to date?” She mumbled, “Why are you thinking about it now?”

“No, I just thought having more friends opens up more paths…”

“Yeah~” Ning Chu shot her brother a contemptuous glance.

Men are men; they can’t help but get distracted by pretty girls.

But since it was Lily’s main account he added, Ning Yuan probably wouldn’t see Lily’s bold side and might still think of her as a shy, reserved girl.

This is fine; it’ll keep Lily’s overt nature from scaring Ning Yuan away.

“I sent you the account; the rest is up to you.”

I really want to see my brother getting drained and propped against the wall soon~
