Chapter 341. Pre-Dinner
Around five o’clock, Ning Chu, who had been playing on the computer in her bedroom, came to the living room to wait.
She curled her legs up on the sofa, covered with a blanket, randomly fiddling with her phone.
The weather was getting colder.
Without heating, even hiding at home made her cheeks turn red from the cold, and despite wearing thick socks, her feet stayed perpetually chilly.
Her ears and toes were already red from frostbite, with her toes swollen up like carrots.
Uncle came into the living room holding an old-looking electric heater, plugged it in, and placed it on the coffee table.
The heater gradually turned red, emanating warm heat. Uncle sat down at the coffee table, put a small kettle on the heater, and pulled out tea leaves and small cups from beneath the table.
“Want some tea?” he asked.
Ning Chu had never really spoken to Uncle before, so this first conversation made her a bit awkward.
“No, thanks.”
“Why not go curl up in bed to warm up?” Uncle looked at the heater, waiting for the kettle to boil.
“I can’t lie down.”
Ning Chu’s gaze drifted to the door. Wen Yang would have arrived by this time yesterday, but he might be delayed today.
She then glanced at her mother in the kitchen, who was joyfully humming a tune while wiping the countertop, with a live feed of Douyin playing on her phone.
Whenever Uncle was home, her mother’s mood visibly lifted.
As for Hei Dou… that cat had completed her tutoring homework and was now fully engrossed in the workbook Wen Yang bought. By now, Ning Chu already owed her nearly ten meals.
Good thing Hei Dou only had one mouth.
She vaguely heard the sound of the elevator door opening in the hallway.
Ning Chu couldn’t wait any longer, stood up, and ran to the door, just in time to hear a knock.
Her movements slowed a bit, and her eager expression faded. After pausing for a moment behind the door, she leisurely opened it.
“Wen Yang~” her tone rose ever so slightly at the end.
The moment Wen Yang saw the little demoness, only a gentle smile remained on his face.
“I saw a meat bun by the roadside and bought you one.” He took off his shoes while pulling a meat bun out of his coat pocket and handed it over, “The guy had a lot of meat in it, and there was a long line; it should taste pretty good.”
“What about Hei Dou’s?”
“She… forgot.”
As Ning Chu stepped aside, Wen Yang noticed Uncle sitting by the coffee table.
His smile faltered for a moment, then he leaned in close to Ning Chu and asked quietly, “Who is that?”
“My mom’s boyfriend.”
“Figured as much…”
Just when he thought he had gained some approval from his future mother-in-law, now here pops up a potential father-in-law?
“It’s fine, he doesn’t have any say over me. He’s in a situation pretty similar to yours~ This is only the second time I’ve seen him.”
Wen Yang and Uncle both needed to try to integrate into Ning Chu’s family, not to be disliked or rejected.
Maybe they would have plenty to talk about?
“I see…”
Uncle turned to look and gave Wen Yang a nod and a smile.
Although his face looked stern and a bit like a school discipline officer, he was actually quite amiable.
“Wen Yang is also here?” Mother walked out of the kitchen, rubbing her hands on her apron, “Go sit by the heater for a bit; dinner will be ready in an hour.”
“Hey, why don’t you come help in the kitchen instead? Stop making tea.”
Uncle reluctantly got up, looking back at the coffee table with reluctance, and followed her into the kitchen.
“Uncle is totally under my mom’s thumb~”
Ning Chu pulled Wen Yang down to sit on the sofa and leaned in to share gossip about her mother and Uncle: “I heard they started hooking up when I was in middle school~ It’s been a secret until now! My brother and I only saw him a few days ago.”
“They say it was an online romance! Back in middle school, she didn’t even let me use the computer, yet she went ahead and had an online fling!”
“Heiyao met him even before me, that ungrateful wolf already calls him Dad just to get some food.”
“By the way, I owe Hei Dou nearly ten meals now; you better handle it yourself! That cat is about to finish an entire workbook!”
The little demoness hardly ever chattered this much. She transformed into a sparrow, rattling on non-stop, her eyes sparkling with gossip, leaving Wen Yang with no chance to interject.
While sitting on the sofa, Wen Yang watched Ning Chu excitedly talk as she unconsciously leaned closer to him. In no time, her soft body was nearly resting on his arm, almost sitting on his lap.
He felt his heart racing and quickly stood up to create some distance: “That wouldn’t look good if Auntie saw us.”
“Huh? Oh~”
Ning Chu paused, took a bite of her meat bun, making an adorably satisfied noise, then began devouring it like a ravenous wolf, finishing the palm-sized bun in no time.
“Not leaving me any?”
“There are still some meat scraps left in the bag~” Ning Chu cheerfully handed the bag over, “Tomorrow I’m going to Lily’s house to hang out; I’ll be back in about two or three days.”
“Remember to come to my house for dinner in the next couple of days; my mom will set you a place and help Hei Dou with her homework~”
“By the way, don’t forget to come spend New Year’s Eve at my house~ we should get some time off for New Year’s, right?”
Wen Yang nodded, “Yeah, I have an early shift on New Year’s Eve, so it won’t affect anything.”
“That’s good~”
Ning Chu leaned back on the sofa, stretching with a yawn, and after peeking around slyly, complained, “My underwear feels a bit small again, all your fault.”
It is said that an enjoyable romance can promote the secretion of estrogen, and being a demoness, her chest hadn’t fully developed anyway…
And she had only given it away twice! Now there were signs she was developing toward a C-cup!
In a few years, wouldn’t she really end up as one of those DEF cup descriptions from those perverted manga?!
“Better to be bigger, what’s the problem?”
“Of course, it’s no problem for you~ you must be quite happy, huh? Pervert!”
Wen Yang had no idea why men who liked big breasts were considered perverts, but fearing his future mother-in-law might overhear, he didn’t linger on the topic.
He changed the subject to the funny incidents he encountered at work today, “Today I ran into a store-review blogger, and I overheard him complaining about how bad the food was, which scared the manager into giving a discount…”
“Who? How many followers does he have?”
“I looked him up; he’s a small blogger with tens of thousands of followers.”
“Will he maybe film you? What’s his name? I want to follow him!”
Wen Yang actually wanted to ask Ning Chu why she always seemed to know about unexpected situations before they happened. Was it like what she wrote in her novels…?
But whenever he brought up topics about novels or that little emperor, Ning Chu would get all bashful and try to cover it up.
Wen Yang pondered that since such topics embarrassed Ning Chu, asking in a more embarrassing situation might yield a better response…
“Time to eat!”
From the direction of the dining table came Mother’s loud call. She glanced at the two on the sofa; seeing they weren’t all lovey-dovey rolling into bed, she felt relieved: “I’ll go call Ning Xin again.”
“Got it!”
