Chapter 339. Social Circle
Ning Chu’s sense of shame was about to explode!
Clearly, she had tried her best to control her voice last night, but it still disturbed the neighbors, and even her mother found out!
No worries, there’s something even more shameful!
Looking at posts online, someone had played with big toys in girly clothes in the living room during the New Year, and when the door opened, a group of relatives came in laughing and joking…
Compared to that, her little incident was nothing at all.
Although she tried to persuade herself, attempting to cool her flushed face, Ning Chu still wailed and rolled on the bed, feeling mortified.
“Ahhh~ I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die!”
Now, every time she met her mother, she felt like her mother’s gaze was full of teasing and peculiarity, almost saying, “How did I give birth to a son like you?”
No! It’s all because her mother is a succubus!
With a sorrowful sigh, she helplessly buried her face in the blanket and remained still for a while.
“Sis?”
Hei Dou was awakened by Ning Chu’s incessant rolling around, tilting her head in confusion and watching her sister’s strange behavior. “What’s wrong? Rolling around so early in the morning.”
“Nothing.”
Ning Chu’s nose twitched, and then she quickly covered it, saying, “What are you sniffing for?”
“Oh~”
Hei Dou, feeling a bit wronged, turned over and stretched lazily.
“Ning Dou! Wash up and have breakfast, we’re getting ready for class!”
“Okay!”
Hearing their mother’s voice from outside, Hei Dou jumped out of bed in a hurry, leaving Ning Chu alone still lying on the bed.
This couldn’t continue!
She really had to restrain the succubus’s instincts; otherwise, it wouldn’t be long before her sense of shame shattered into pieces.
Just two days later, they were going to Lily’s house to play, so at least it wouldn’t be like yesterday, impulsively sneaking out at midnight to crawl into Wen Yang’s bed.
“I’m falling further and further~”
It was only the second day, but something deep inside seemed to have been triggered, making her constantly crave those two experiences like an addict.
Even though she was a succubus, just months ago she was still a man!
With another sigh, Ning Chu suddenly heard Hei Dou’s cheerful voice from outside.
“Dad! What tasty treats did you bring me this time!”
Dad?
Ning Chu was taken aback at first, then recalled that it was her mother’s little boyfriend, the Uncle, who had come.
Her mother still had the nerve to criticize her~ Tonight, she might sneak out again.
She wondered whether she should counterattack against her mother, but doing the filial thing might end up with her getting hit, so she had to suppress those thoughts.
“Ning Chu.” Her mother entered, carrying a stylish white handbag with a particularly gentle smile. “Uncle bought this for you.”
“Ah?” Ning Chu looked up in surprise.
When Uncle was around, her mother seemed to be more feminine, exuding elegance with every move. She sat at her daughter’s bedside and handed the handbag to Ning Chu with a smile. “It’s quite nice; Uncle noticed you didn’t have a bag when you went out, it’s inconvenient.”
“I actually have one; I just didn’t bring it back.”
Ning Chu mumbled as she sat up, taking the handbag to inspect it. “It seems a bit inappropriate to accept gifts from him… but it is quite nice…”
It felt like leather, and the small white handbag was not much larger than an ordinary wallet, probably only suitable for little odds and ends.
“It’s nothing, just take it.” Her mother smiled and ruffled Ning Chu’s hair. “It was even picked out by Uncle’s daughter~”
“Ah?”
So Uncle is also a divorced dad?
Ning Chu paused for a moment and curiously asked, “Have you met her?”
“No.” Her mother shook her head. “She said she’s in her third year of college, preparing for postgraduate entrance exams, so she doesn’t come out of the house.”
“Oh~ Mom, when do you plan to marry Uncle?”
Her mother’s smile faltered, looking at Ning Chu’s curious yet teasing expression. She casually flicked a strand of hair and turned her head away. “Why get married? At this age, it’s the same whether we marry or not.”
She must be shy!
Ning Chu caught a hint of redness on her mother’s face and asked, “So when will you divorce him?”
Her mother still hadn’t gotten a divorce from her runaway father.
“He’s not coming back, how can we divorce?”
“File for divorce! He hasn’t come back for so many years; the court will definitely rule in your favor.”
Her mother pondered for a moment and nodded. “Let’s wait. The New Year is around the corner, so I don’t have time for this.”
“I’m taking Ning Xin to class!”
A loud voice startled Ning Chu, making her shiver. Her mother stood up and casually walked out of the bedroom, “Drive carefully.”
“Mm.”
“What do you want for lunch? I’ll take Ning Chu to buy groceries.”
“???”
Ning Chu, peeking out from the bedroom, was puzzled. When did she say she wanted to go grocery shopping with her mother?
Standing on the doormat, her mother looked at Uncle and Ning Xin entering the elevator and then turned around, spotting Ning Chu peeking from the next room.
“Mom, I didn’t say I wanted to go grocery shopping with you! I still want to catch up on sleep~”
“Do you really think you can sleep?” Her mother looked at her skeptically. “What’s wrong with helping me carry some things? Your boyfriend is coming over for dinner tonight, right? Let’s buy some food he likes.”
Now Ning Chu had motivation to go out.
Though Wen Yang was strong enough to not need any supplemental nutrition, it wouldn’t be bad to score some goodies on her mother’s dime.
“Wait for me! I’ll put on some socks!”
The nearest vegetable market was a half-hour walk away.
Once downstairs, Ning Chu walked in the community with her mother, feeling a bit stiff as they were seen by the neighbors…
“A Juan! Who’s this?”
Worse yet, her mother stopped in front of a familiar neighbor aunt.
“My daughter~ Isn’t she pretty?”
“Since when did you get such a big daughter? Hey, what about that little boy from your house? He should be on break too, right?”
Her mother beamed as she glanced at Ning Chu, who rolled her eyes in resignation.
“He’s working part-time outside. He’s not coming back for the New Year.”
Thank goodness her mother still knew to save her some face.
Ning Chu let out a small sigh of relief, but soon stiffened again as she caught a glimpse of a man walking into the community gate. She instinctively grabbed her mother’s arm and quickly looked down.
“Isn’t that the boy you used to play with from childhood?” Her mother asked curiously. “Didn’t he say he was going to join the army? He’s back already?”
“Uh… he said he wanted to come visit me before, but I found an excuse to dodge him.”
Ning Chu kept her head down, holding her breath as they brushed past each other.
Fortunately, she wasn’t recognized.
“You can’t be doing this; you’ve just forgotten about your old friends?”
“I guess I’m pretending not to know; it’s pretty good right now anyway…”
After starting college, old friends and classmates hadn’t really kept in touch. At most, they would occasionally interact online.
But giving up on her previous social circle still made Ning Chu feel a little sad.
The face of the former ‘man’ had grown increasingly fuzzy in her memories, the details now unrecognizable.
The life she once lived felt vastly disconnected from her current existence, making everything seem like a dream, shrouded in vagueness and unreality.
