Chapter 321

Chapter 321. The Little Princess of the Tutoring Class

“Ning Chu, when are you going back to visit Grandma and Grandpa?”

While having breakfast, Mom, with a dumpling wrapped in her hand, lifted her gaze to land on her daughter’s face.

“Um…” Ning Chu hesitated, feeling a bit guilty, “Maybe during the New Year? Just in time for the celebrations.”

“That works.”

“Will Uncle be going then?”

She wanted to find a scapegoat to help deflect Grandma and Grandpa’s attention away from her.

Uncle momentarily froze in his dumpling-wrapping motion, looking at Mom with a questioning glance.

Mom took a sip of soy milk and sighed, “He won’t be going…”

So even Mom feels anxious when bringing her boyfriend to meet her parents~

And not just hiding it from her and Brother, Mom has been keeping it from Grandma and Grandpa too, probably only a few close friends know she has a boyfriend.

Seeing Mom in a predicament Ning Chu used to face, a laugh bubbled in her heart, instantly lifting her spirits.

“When does this holiday end?” Mom chose to change the topic.

“Let me see…” Ning Chu glanced at the class group notification and replied, “School starts on the 17th of the first month.”

“That’s about a month at home then.”

“Yup~”

She couldn’t shake off the feeling that Mom seemed to be annoyed with her: “Mom, why do you feel like you can’t wait for me to leave?”

Mom wore a teasing smile, dramatically sighed, “You being back is fine for a couple of days, but by the third day, it gets a little annoying~ You don’t help with anything around the house, just get in the way.”

Clearly, it’s because I’m home that you’ve lost your alone time with Uncle, right?

“So I come back once a month,” Ning Yuan chimed in, “I came home too frequently. When I was in college, I’d come back every six months, and Mom would make me delicious meals, but now I can only sleep on the floor.”

“It’s not that far; what’s wrong with coming back for a meal every week?”

“No, I’m afraid you’ll think I’m in the way.”

As they bickered good-naturedly, the light atmosphere made Ning Chu feel relaxed.

Compared to the oppressive one or two months at school after her journey began, this family ambiance was truly comforting.

“Ning Xin, stop eating; you’re going to be late again.”

Mom turned to Hei Dou, who was busy eating dumplings, and urged, “Go get a hair tie; I’ll do your hair.”

“Okay~”

Hei Dou dipped the last few dumplings in ketchup and stuffed them into her mouth, cheeks bulging as she rushed to get the hair tie.

That tiny figure must have eaten at least twenty dumplings; her appetite was far better than Ning Chu’s.

“Ning Yuan, will you send her off later?”

“I will,” Ning Chu said, looking up, “I have to step out for something.”

Mom immediately understood where she was headed, shot her a teasing glance, and pushed a plate of fresh dumplings towards her: “Boil these dumplings; your Uncle and I haven’t eaten yet.”

The dumplings were filled with shrimp and pork, prepared under Uncle’s careful hand, tasting much better than those from outside dumpling shops.

Ning Chu had thought that Uncle, with his burly build, would be a bit reckless and rough, but after spending a day with him, she found him quite thoughtful, and his cooking was impressive; with him around, Mom could barely help in the kitchen.

Even from a critical perspective, aside from his smoking and drinking habits, Uncle had no obvious flaws.

As for Uncle and Mom’s relationship… they had been privately seeing each other for three to five years; if things were bad, they would have already broken up.

When Ning Chu brought the freshly boiled dumplings to the table, Hei Dou had already gotten her hair done into two ponytails by Mom.

With her kitten-like look, the dual ponytails suited her age perfectly, making her exceptionally cute.

“Mom, where’s her tutoring class?”

“Over on Nanshan Street; she’ll know the way.”

Mom handed Ning Chu the keys to the electric bike: “Be careful on the road.”

“Okay, Hei Dou, let’s go; remember to lead the way.”

“Don’t worry!”

Maybe it had been too long since Ning Chu rode an electric bike; she felt the front heavy and hard to control, even maintaining her balance was tricky.

She could only place her feet on either side of the bike, wobbling around the community to regain her riding skills.

But Hei Dou was so scared she turned pale, tightly hugging Ning Chu’s waist: “Sis~ are you okay?”

“Should we take a taxi instead?”

“What do you mean I can’t do this?” Ning Chu slowly turned and almost toppled over, hurriedly putting one foot down to stop the bike, “We’re going to be late; let’s take a taxi.”

After returning the electric bike to the storage room, Ning Chu quickly called for a ride, taking Hei Dou to Nanshan Walking Street.

“Sis.”

“What is it?”

“When are you and Brother-in-law getting married?”

“……”

Who knows about such things!

At least while in school, marriage is not possible; after graduation, they might have to wait for Wen Yang to buy a car and a house.

It’s not that she’s set on wanting a house and car, but this is how she’s been procrastinating… although she no longer has such a strong aversion to it, she even feels a little bit of anticipation.

But Wen Yang’s skills are too strong, and the way he’s described in the book regarding combat power is just outrageous; she’s really worried she might break.

“Sis, why did you bring clothes with you? Are you going to Brother-in-law’s house?”

“Uh… yeah.”

Ning Chu held a bag of clothes, containing a few outfits, to avoid getting dirty when visiting Wen Yang, so Mom wouldn’t notice immediately.

After exchanging a few words, Hei Dou leaned on Ning Chu’s shoulder and dozed off.

When she woke up again, they had already arrived at Nanshan Walking Street, and Hei Dou led her to the tutoring class.

“This is my first time at one of these places,” Ning Chu looked around curiously; her family couldn’t afford to send her for tutoring when she was younger.

Upon entering the tutoring class, Hei Dou immediately perked up, completely alert.

“Ning Xin! Little sister~” The front desk girl spotted Hei Dou and instantly lit up, “Want some sunflower seeds? I’ll give you a pack.”

Hei Dou perked her ears and sweetly greeted, “Sister,” then shook her head, “No way, I can’t eat during class; Mom will scold me if I bring them home.”

“Ning Xin~ I brought pork floss bread! Do you want some?”

A little boy suddenly ran over from the side, shoving a bag of bread into Hei Dou’s hands.

“Thank you, big brother~”

Her crisp and sweet voice turned the boy’s face crimson as he bashfully ran away.

“Little Ning Xin~ over here, here!”

In the entire tutoring center, from the staff to the other children, just in that short distance from the door to the classroom, Hei Dou’s clothes and pockets were already stuffed with treats.

Ning Chu trailed behind, her eyes wide.

This little cat is so popular! Like a little princess being pampered.

No wonder Hei Dou has no aversion to tutoring classes at all!

“Sis, here’s a bread for you.” Hei Dou turned back, pulled out a pork floss bread from her pocket, and stuffed it into Ning Chu’s hands, then looked around slyly, whispering, “Don’t tell Mom! I treated you!”

“……”

Ning Chu’s smile froze on her face, and she rubbed her temples: “Are you some kind of fox spirit? How do you have such charm…”

“I’m just a cute little cat~”
