Chapter 319

Chapter 319. Suspicious 2/11

The dinner dishes were almost identical to lunch, except for a plate of cola chicken wings; the rest were leftover from lunch.

The others at the table had no complaints about the leftovers, and Hei Dou happily gnawed on the chicken wings, her ears rhythmically flopping as she swayed her head, the sauce staining her face like a little calico cat.

Mom was busy playing mahjong with her girlfriends on her phone, occasionally looking up to chat with Uncle for a bit, and when she won a hand, she excitedly boasted like a young girl, “I won! Look at my hand!”

Uncle would lean in, nodding in agreement, “Lucky! Want to buy a lottery ticket after this?”

“They’re all scams.”

Mom cheerfully continued her game but glanced at Ning Chu, who was sitting across the table.

Ning Chu instinctively shrank her neck, sheepishly lowering her head to shovel rice.

So suspicious!

Even though she had cleaned up pretty well and there were no obvious signs on her face, Mom still caught a whiff of residual pheromones from her.

She had rushed out in the afternoon, apparently to meet up with a little boyfriend for fun!

Ning Chu couldn’t stand Mom’s scrutinizing gaze.

Though nothing substantial had happened with Wen Yang in the afternoon, just the embarrassment of being caught by Mom filled her with anxiety.

Even if he was still a guy, she would be flustered if Mom found out she was out on a date with a girl… let alone the fact that she had become a girl herself a few months ago and was now discovered going out with a man…

In front of Mom and her brother, she still habitually placed herself in the identity of a “younger brother,” which made her cheeks flush with embarrassment.

“Mom, I’m full.”

After only eating half a bowl of rice, Ning Chu stood up.

“Sis! Why did you eat so little?” Hei Dou looked up, noticing the bowl was still half full, and lectured her in a somewhat grown-up manner, “Sis! Every grain is hard-earned!”

Lily was having quite a tough time at home.

With a strange thought crossing her mind, Ning Chu casually replied, “I have a small appetite…”

“Sis! Did you sneak out to eat something this afternoon?”

“!!”

I can’t believe you know I had a big afternoon tea!

Ning Chu suddenly lost her composure and almost stumbled.

“You didn’t even bring me anything.”

She stole a glance at Mom, who was trying to stifle her laughter, realizing that Hei Dou’s “sneaking out” was just the straightforward meaning, and she awkwardly brushed it off, “Next time, I’ll bring you some.”

Ning Yuan looked at Ning Chu’s back, confused, and asked, “What’s wrong with her today? She nearly fell while walking straight?”

“Sneaking food and not sharing—she’s feeling guilty!” Hei Dou boldly declared.

Uncle looked completely baffled but kept his mouth shut as he was just starting to get used to this family dynamic, while Hei Dou hammered away at Ning Chu’s selfishness, with only Mom laughing heartily.

Ning Chu didn’t even wipe her mouth and fled back to her room, collapsing onto her bed and gently swinging her little legs that dangled over the edge.

Living at home was undoubtedly inconvenient…

She stuck out her tongue and licked her lips, then froze as her face heated up, popping up to grab a tissue to wipe her mouth.

That sweet scent was still lingering on her lips!

No wonder even after she deliberately took a shower and didn’t dirty her clothes, Mom still found out.

She should probably brush her teeth again.

Staring blankly at the ceiling, Ning Chu thought about how to cover up her little secret in front of Mom.

Although her body was that of a succubus, she had spent over twenty years as a man, and being found out by Mom about sneaking off to meet other men was clearly too shocking.

“Why do I even have to think about hiding things? Instead of just not doing them in the first place?”

Ning Chu suddenly hit a blind spot, then, after some thought, answered herself, “But I’m a succubus~”

Yeah, that logic makes perfect sense! Instantly convinced herself.

“Sis~ I memorized that ancient poem! You have to sign it later.” Hei Dou suddenly pushed the door open and poked her head in.

“You finished eating so soon?”

“Mom said we should eat less at night, or we’ll get fat.”

“Oh~”

“Brother said he’d take me shopping tonight! I want to eat barbecue.”

“……”

Taking the textbook that Hei Dou handed her, Ning Chu still lay flat on the bed, glancing over the book.

It was a very familiar ancient poem; although this world was quite different from her previous life in many ways, the similarities were still remarkably abundant.

As she listened to Hei Dou stumble through the lines of the five-character ancient poem, Ning Chu casually signed her name while asking, “What about Uncle? Is he staying over tonight?”

“Dad usually stays overnight and leaves the next noon.”

“Of course~”

Mom’s elbows were sticking out a bit too much, preferring to let her biological son sleep on the floor for a man!

How can she even say anything to her!

“Ning Xin! Have you memorized the poem? Ask your sister if she wants to go shopping with you.”

Ning Yuan’s voice called from outside.

“Sis, are you going?”

“Not going, I’m a little tired and sleepy.”

That rented place was just divided by thin walls, and fearing she’d be overheard by people in the hallway or next door, she could only muffle her voice by biting down on her pillow.

What was worse was that seeing her holding back from making a sound only made Wen Yang more excited and eager, even pulling out little toys… why on earth did that guy bring little toys with him when he had nothing to do!

This made her even more exhausted than before.

After forcing herself to eat dinner and lying down for just a few minutes, she was already so drowsy that her eyes felt heavy.

“Okay, I’m off!” Hei Dou hurriedly dashed out, hugging her books.

“Close the door.”

“Okay!”

Outside the bedroom was noisy, and after a moment, as the main door of the house closed, she could only vaguely hear the voices of Mom and Uncle from the dining table.

Ning Chu yawned, placing her legs up on the bed, rolling over and twisting the blankets into a long strip to use as a pillow, hugging it like an octopus.

Half-asleep, she lost track of time until suddenly she opened her eyes again.

Oh no, she couldn’t sleep alone!

The more she lay there, the more awake she felt.

Though her body was tired, no matter what, she just couldn’t fall asleep.

Not to mention there was no soft, warm hugging pillow anymore.

Ning Chu picked up her phone and checked the time, only realizing she had been drowsy for an hour already; it was already eight-thirty.

Outside her bedroom, all was quiet, and peeking through the crack of the bedroom door, the living room was dark, with all the lights off.

Ning Chu sat up with a yawn, wobbling as she prepared to head to the bathroom.

But as she reached the door, her hand was already on the doorknob when she suddenly hesitated.

Wait! What if Mom and Uncle were doing something… If I open the door, wouldn’t I be interrupting them?

She quickly lightened her footsteps, cautiously turning the doorknob, gently pulling the door open, and peeking into her mom’s room.

“Not here…”

Of course, she knew one shouldn’t mess around at home; how could Mom not know that?
