Chapter 201

[Took off work a little while ago, but what’s up with Kayak’s broadcast?]

Why does it seem like the players keep changing every round? What’s Kayak doing right now?

– What do you mean, it’s playing Fantasia!

– They’re doing a raid but everyone’s failing, haha.

– If you get two outs, you get kicked out immediately and we agreed to let in new members.

– VTuber audition? Now this is a real audition!

– The changing members definitely keeps the tension high, haha.

– For real, as people come and go, the strategy sections are getting longer; it feels like watching a growth story.

– They’re putting in so much effort; it’s fun to watch!

– I’m telling you, it releases dopamine!

[What the heck, how long is this queue!?]

Every time the members change, I’m trying to join and I can’t find a gap, haha. Every time I click to join a party, it’s full!

– Does the 50 million Kayak special corps look like a joke to you?

– People like you are a dime a dozen, haha; I doubt we’re getting a game in today.

– If the noobs could just get lost already…

– Whoa!

– As expected, the burn comes from Kayak, haha.

– You can play games with Kayak and have conversations while hearing their voice? How can anyone resist this?

– If you can resist, you’re not a true fan.

– But seriously, seeing the newbies join for the first raid without knowing the strategy and getting kicked right away is kind of sad.

– The chat host is new too, though.

– But Kayak is good enough to replace the kids as they come!

[I’m Jerome, and here’s my unfair point about getting dropped from the second party]

When I played with Kayak, they weren’t giving orders like that using a mic!

If Kayak had just calmly told me to dodge using that soothing voice, I would have avoided all the area attacks and crowd control skills!

– Ah, just quietly leave if you got dropped, haha.

– Was that you, Theodora, in the second party? I thought I was going to die from frustration watching you.

– You were terrible, haha. Just quit already.

– I’m ranked 2nd on server 1 as Theodora, haha. Are you really better than me?

– In a game that hasn’t even been out for long, getting the rankings is kind of…

– Yeah, now that’s a bit pathetic.

[Riri getting kicked out like a dog, wtf, haha!]

I came on my day off and was really trying hard, but the broadcast host’s friend is ruthless!
– Riri is seriously into the game, LOL.

– Does Riri look like a gaming goddess?

– I’m super focused on the raid, friends don’t even matter, haha!

– Riri is crying in the chat after getting kicked, LOL.

– Riri, you have no talent, just quit.

– If you wanna play with Kayak, you better be good at the game, haha!

– Sharks don’t swim with sardines…

< I feel this again, but seriously, the difference between having a leader or not is huge. >

With Kayak giving orders, the party feels more solid overall, and we’ve reduced the little mistakes a lot.

An hour ago, we were getting wiped by the mid-boss, but now it’s just a little checkpoint we pass through.

Is this the power of leadership?

– The broadcast host gives orders with great sense, that must be it.

– They must be busy pulling aggro while dealing damage, yet they still manage to call out situations, it’s insane, haha!

No way the host did RPG games before this? It feels like they’ve run some raids in a hardcore party before.

They said they haven’t! It’s their first RPG, and before this, they were just in the abyss.

But how do they do that?

Must just be talent, LOL. Kayak has never failed at a game so far.

Total talent monster, insane.

< So do you think we can clear it before the stream ends today? >

I have no idea since I haven’t played that game, LOL…

– Honestly, it seems tough, haha. Kayak is good, but raids require everyone to do well together.

– The host insists on doing Hell mode, but we’d be fine just doing Hard.

Nah, the highest difficulty is where the fun is!

Hard is just too lame, though.

Hard sounds so manly right off the bat.

If you clear Hard and then say you beat the False God, you should get your high school diploma revoked, LOL.

Well, Kayak was never there anyway.

What?

– If even one person makes a mistake, we’ll have to do it again.

Just a cyber squad, LOL.

But filtering out the deadweights in real-time and accepting new members isn’t too bad, right?

Decisive actions can show there’s still hope, LOL. If things go well, we might clear it today!

*

At first, it was a question, then a slight annoyance, and now it’s become a matter of pride.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we just gave up on the raid. Just like a few comments in the chat suggest, we could do other content that would make both of us happy without needing this much effort.
If we give up the raid right now, the viewers won’t have to watch a boring broadcast, and I won’t have to worry about giving orders or stressing out anymore.

That’s just how it is with raids. It’s like banging your head against a wall.

I’ve never actually done it myself, but having watched similar broadcasts a few times, I was quite aware of how it goes.

To succeed in a raid with a certain level of difficulty, you have to keep hitting against it without rest.

Even a professional party that’s practiced together would struggle, so there was no way our ragtag group could clear the game easily.

There’s no such thing as an easy task in this world. What looks easy on the surface can be quite difficult when you actually try it.

There’s a saying that if something seems easy, it’s because someone’s really good at it or they’ve mastered it.

Even begging on the street has its own know-how. It’s naturally hard to achieve results when you’re doing something you’ve never done before.

Still, I was starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

I could barely see the goal in the distance now. Compared to the pitch-black nothingness at the start, this was nothing short of a leap in progress.

I clapped my hands and, by now a habitual catchphrase, said it again.

“Alright, everyone did well. This time we’ve whittled down 30 lines. Much better than before. But…”

[But the chat is on fire lol]
[Alright, time to pack up, right?]
[If you think it’s you, come out lol]
[It’s time to be banned]
[Guess it’s time to leave?]

“Our Calliope made a bit of a mistake. We shouldn’t provoke Akuntala, but she used a skill there.”

“I’m sorry… Just this once, please…”

The dejected man’s voice was a far cry from his earlier lively tone; it was quieter and a bit shaky, almost as if he knew what fate awaited him.

I felt a bit of sympathy, but there’s nothing I could do. A rule is a rule.

It was too late to spare someone just because I felt sorry for them; way too many had faced a similar fate before.

Pitying someone prematurely is a no-go. For the sake of those who’ve left, it was time for me to harden my resolve again.

“It’s unfortunate, but you made a mistake earlier too. If you mess up twice, it’s a ban. We agreed on a two-strike rule, right?”
“Did we do that, everyone?”

“Oh dear…”

“The great Kayak is no longer able to join us. What a bummer. We’ll have to fill that spot with another person.”

“No way-!”

With that last desperate cry, the great Kayak was expelled from the party. Naturally, they were also out on Discord.

[Kayak’s best output cut lol]

[Well, Kayak is just like that, sigh]

[Banishment thread lol]

[Great Kayak, you have to live happily over there~]

[They say Kayak, who banned Kayak, didn’t regret it and didn’t get obsessed or devastated]

[Sorry, friends (cue Golden Bell music)]

[I knew this guy was gonna be a problem from the start, yeah]

[Honestly speaking) They really weren’t that great]

[The early dropout was indeed Kayak lol]

[I’ll happily take Kayak’s empty spot~]

[This time, I’m going all in]

Thus, a party member suspected to be the biggest contributor to the raid failure was expelled.

It wasn’t just this person causing visible issues… but since we decided to operate on a two-strike system, what can you do?

You can’t banish someone who’s not causing outright trouble.

At least they were performing around 0.8 or 0.9 of their share. If a major problem arose, that’s when we could consider a ban.

“Alright, I’ll change the party back to public. Hurry up and join if you’re coming. Just you is fine.”

The vacant spot was filled in no time at all.

In terms of time, it probably took about 5 seconds. It felt like, almost as soon as the room opened, someone swooped in.

-Dipucoco: Wow, crazy, I’m in!!!

“Dipucoco, hello! Welcome to our family-like party. User Shan, tank position. Great. Do you have Discord? It’s okay if you don’t have a mic. You don’t have to brief, just come and listen to my orders.”

[Jealous of how Kayak is gaming and chatting]

[I can do well too]

[Older sister ㅠㅠ I want to join too]

[Can’t even get that nickname out there, hmm…]

[I wonder if they’ll survive without being banned?]

-Dipucoco: I can use my mic too! I’ll do my best to brief!

“Oh really? Then I’d appreciate the briefing!”

Somehow, I had a good feeling about this one.
