Chapter 148

I was a street kid.

One moment I found myself in a corner of the Oris street.

A powerless girl with no family or past.

That was my past self.

I survived on the streets without even knowing my own name.

Strangely enough, my body was different from that of the average street kids.

I had incredible physical abilities; I didn’t get tired even if I didn’t eat, making the others on the street look weak by comparison.

I was able to survive on the streets in the body of a young girl.

One day, I was kidnapped by thieves who called themselves the army of justice.

My physical abilities didn’t fall behind theirs, but I got caught because I didn’t know how to handle my strength properly.

I was dragged off to a prison.

Rough hands and filthy gazes directed at me.

I could feel their desires towards me, even against my will.

It was a common occurrence for most girls on the street.

Thanks to this power I possessed, I thought I could avoid such things, but it seemed the time had come.

No escaping it anymore…

Or so I thought.

“Ugh… Huh?”

“What, how…?”

A man and a woman instantly neutralized all the thieves.

While the other kids rushed towards the woman who took them down, I noticed the man shattering the barrier that trapped me.

The woman introduced herself as an Apostle, and the man next to her said he was her assistant.

I had heard of them before.

The omniscient God, Deus, the only one that exists in this world.

These individuals, seated on the throne, were to lead this world correctly under Deus’s command.

Could it be that such great people came to save kids like us?

While all the kids rushed to the Apostle, I approached the man who was slightly apart from the chaos.

He was cloaked ominously, looking very suspicious, but for some reason, I felt a strange attraction towards him.

As if I knew him.

“Who are you, mister?”

When I approached and spoke to him, a flood of memories rushed into my mind.

‘I’m Lily. What’s your name?’

‘I’m a mother who protects her son!’

‘Yes. I love you, my beloved daughter, Deus.’

‘Luke. My beloved son.’

What’s happening? Is this my memory?

A dream?

What are all these scenes flashing in my mind?

A pain like my head’s splitting apart.

And then I lost consciousness.

When I regained consciousness, the man I had seen earlier was gone, and a handsome man stood before me.

He said he would take me to the temple.

I wouldn’t have to return to the filthy streets anymore.

The massive memories I had seen earlier.

The man who had suddenly vanished.

I was confused, but I followed him to stay at the temple of Oris.

I became an apprentice priest belonging to Apostle Meiru’s direct priesthood.

That was my new identity.

A status that couldn’t be compared to an orphan girl wandering the streets.

I even received a new name.

Lily.

Though I didn’t know the name, it stirred feelings of nostalgia in my heart every time I repeated it.

Could it be because it was the first name I had ever had?

Life in the temple was entirely different from life on the streets.

Warm soup and stew.

A soft bed with comfortable blankets.

A place where I could wash myself whenever I wanted.

Though it was said that all people became equal before God since Luke Christos, the savior of all mankind, descended to the ground, it felt almost unthinkable in the midst of the existing wealth gap—it was like heaven.

I never wanted to return to the streets again.

On the other hand, there were still those who, like my past self, remained on the streets.

To save them all and bring them back to the Lord’s embrace.

That would become my mission given to me by Deus as a priest.

As I spent my days as an apprentice in the temple, I tried to find the man who had claimed to be the assistant to Apostle Meiru.

I wanted to know about the many memories that floated in my head.

To uncover my past, to discover my birth.

The Oris itself was under the jurisdiction of Apostle Meiru, so I often had chances to meet her.

But I had never once seen that man in the robe.

Though I hadn’t seen his face properly at that time, I couldn’t mistake the heart-stirring aura he exuded.

However, I never saw that man with Meiru even once.

Instead, the handsome man who brought me to this place kept coming back to find me.

He didn’t seem like a priest or a holy knight.

Even the others didn’t know who he was, but he seemed to have something to do with Meiru.

He would come by occasionally, asking only me how I was doing.

Asking whether I was adapting well.

If I needed anything at all.

If the other priests or holy knights were alright.

If there was no one being really bothersome.

He seemed like a father looking after me.

I felt affection from him.

Why?

Who on earth is this man, that he cares for me like this?

I asked him several times, but he never revealed anything about himself.

He would just say he would tell me everything when the time comes.

He simply looked at me with a sad expression.

I had no choice but to call him uncle.

I was merely an orphaned girl from the streets.

On the other hand, the Oris temple was filled with many nobles who came from worthy backgrounds, too different from me.

Without his help, I probably would have struggled to adapt.

Then one day, while I was doing well, thanks to that uncle’s assistance.

“Hey, you filthy little thing.”

“Answer when called.”

“Yeah, are there any more filthy street kids besides you here?”

The senior priests surrounded me.

“I don’t get it. Why is a dirty girl from the streets allowed to become a priest like us!”

“Do you know how hard we had to work to get our priest status?”

“You wouldn’t know, a lucky girl who caught the Apostle’s eye. Do you know how difficult it is to become a priest of Deus?”

Splash!

One of them poured stew over my head.

They had been looking at the uncle with envy.

Every time he visited, they would come over to me and ask about him.

What kind of highborn he was.

How we came to know each other.

If he had a lover.

I had thought it was mere curiosity…

But could it be that they were envious of me because of him?

“More respect, respect! You’re all the same! Acting friendly in front and then bad-mouthing me behind my back!”

“Just because you lost your noble status doesn’t mean you’re on the same level as us!”

I possessed powerful physical abilities, unlike the priests.

It wouldn’t be difficult to subdue those priests here.

But if I were to lay a hand on the seniors… that would only get back at the uncle who helped me.

Being bullied doesn’t even faze me.

Having gone through all sorts of things on the streets.

But I didn’t want to harm those who liked me.

I wanted to quietly let it slide, but it didn’t seem like it would go that way at all.

Just then.

“Hi, hiik!”

“What, what’s happening!”

The uncle appeared between me and the others.

“Ah, uncle?”

“Who, who are you?”

“Eh? How did…?”

“Teleportation? Inside the temple? No way!”

How did the uncle get here?

“What are you doing right now?”

The seniors looked panicked.

“Uh, no, it’s just that…”

They were flustered because the uncle they admired had suddenly appeared at this place.

“Ah, the junior misbehaved, so I was just giving her a little lesson!”

One of the seniors spoke.

“A wrong action, you say?”

The uncle asked back.

“Yes. This girl still doesn’t have her mindset as a priest right, and she’s behaving in a way that brings trouble to Lord Deus, so just for a moment…”

“Trouble to Lord Deus….”

What are they talking about?

They came to me and started the fuss.

Why would Deus be here now?

“It seems this won’t do.”

Snap!

The uncle snapped his fingers.

Chains appeared from thin air, binding the seniors.

“Eek! Wh-what are you doing!”

“Do you know what you’re doing right now!”

“Yes, I know.”

The uncle spoke expressionlessly.

“I’m taking in the fallen priests.”

“Fallen!”

“Taking in! Do you know who I am!”

“Do you know who your father is? He is the beloved holy knight of Apostle Meiru! Do you think you can get away with this!”

The seniors stammered and panicked.

“A beloved holy knight of Meiru, huh….”

As the uncle fell into thought, the seniors’ expressions brightened.

“Yes! Touching us will be a big deal! So quickly, let us go…!”

“I think I should just overhaul the holy knights and priests. Seems Meiru has poor judgment on people too.”

“Huh?”

Then, bits formed from thin air to gag the seniors’ mouths.

“Mmm! Mmm!”

Their senior was the captain of the holy knight order under Meiru, though…

Is that okay?

The uncle turned around and looked at me.

He smiled gently.

“It’s alright. Nothing will be a problem for this uncle.”

He placed a hand on my head.

“So don’t fear causing me trouble; just think of me. I will help you whenever you need.”

I had only thought it in my head!
