Chapter 126

When the New Year comes, there’s something that people do.

It’s setting new goals that fit the New Year. With the energy of the new year fueling their passion, they come up with huge, grandiose plans.

It’s kind of like a bucket list. Not much different from wishing upon the bell tolling on New Year’s Eve. It’s similar to checking fortunes on internet sites and getting your horoscope read at some reputed place.

This year, it’s about losing weight, getting a certification—everyone’s gearing up with their resolutions. That’s why gyms are suddenly packed at the beginning of the year.

I, too, was not immune to this New Year spirit.

As a mere human, I was not much different from the average person. I shared similar emotions, thought processes, and even behavior patterns.

What I mean by that is,

“Hmm, is there anything else… Give me some decent ideas, folks.”

I was currently setting my New Year plans and goals. With the viewers.

[You should set a goal based on what the teacher wants to do]

[You just ignore all the suggestions]

[World domination]

[I just did the cam, so let’s debut as a female streamer]

[Reaching 100,000 live viewers]

[What’s this stalking cam?]

[Learning female streamer reactions wouldn’t be a bad idea; my donation reactions are too boring]

[Back in the no-cam days, “thank you” was all there was, and now it’s boring?]

[I’ve written down all the doable goals: Increase V-Tuber subscribers, broadcast at least 5 days a week….]

[Nothing grand about these; the host is being realistic]

[Why isn’t there a 7-day broadcast? Have you lost your初心?]

[Do a 48-hour stream]

[Something random and innovative]

It was truly a collective intelligence. With so many people gathered, ideas overflowed. Of course, I had to filter out the less feasible ones, but having the option to hear diverse opinions and choose among them was a huge advantage.

What kind of person gets to discuss their New Year plans with 20,000 people? Even the CEOs of major corporations probably haven’t had such an experience.

…Or maybe? In dramas, the CEOs have their exclusive secretaries and strategic planning departments, so those organizations might have the best brains working on their ideas too.
It was something.

Anyway, it wasn’t a bad thing. Conducting a broadcast to plan the New Year without any content ready is a bit of a stretch. Of course, I basically borrowed an idea from one of the viewers, but hey, there’s skill in riding the wave too. Only those who’ve never tried it end up crashing when they try to catch a ride.

Even though it sounds like I’m just riding the wave, like a king listening to his loyal subjects, I also took the viewers’ opinions into account and executed them. So, there’s some equity involved here.

[I am the king! ㄷㄷㄷ]

[Don’t talk nonsense, Teacher!]

[It’s nice to see you’re the same as ever in the New Year.]

[Wow, surprisingly, she’s right. She’s the king.]

[Such ambitions from the Emperor of Twitch, truly Kayak.]

[Kayak/Controversies and Incidents/Viewers as Ministers.]

[Ah haha, if you’re the host, you’re the king of the broadcast, right?]

“No, that’s not what I meant…”

It was a fatal mistake to snap back at the critics accusing me of riding the wave again. Ignoring the teasing of the viewers about the controversy, I continued drafting the plan.

[The great Kayak donated 10,000 won!]

– But can I even do all of this? It seems like too much.

That’s a valid point, but it shows some cracks in the logic.

“You don’t know, do you? The whole point of a plan or bucket list is to write it down first. Even if I can’t execute everything, setting high goals is what makes it worthwhile.”

[For real lol]

[It feels like a vacation plan, yeah yeah.]

[Just write it down first and see.]

[You’ve got to set those high targets, otherwise you end up doing less.]

[If all that gets done, it’ll be legendary.]

[How about running for parliament then?]

[Oh ho.]

[They say Camilla’s personal color is blue, just throwing that out there.]

[Please add female streamer debut too.]

[That girl is a female streamer, lol.]

[Technically, she’s a female streamer right now, what’s with the need for a debut?]

[If a woman turns on her cam, that’s a female streamer.]

[What you really want is to see Kayak’s female streamer reactions, right?]

[I really want to see her dance like Camilla.]

[Dance dance… hehehe…]

[Kayak’s dance broadcasts are recognized.]

“Dance reactions? Dancing? Sure, why not. I’ll just write it down for now. I didn’t say I’d definitely do it.”

I added the frequently mentioned requests from the viewers to the list. Since nothing’s confirmed, it could happen or it might not.
I added a line to my demands. After all, it’s not certain, and it could either happen or not.

Writing this down randomly also served to create content for my New Year’s bucket list broadcast while preparing for the future.

It’s for when I have nothing else to present. It’s like an idea store, you see.

As is often the case with content, even something that seems fun can be discarded in an instant.

No matter how great the content, when it comes time to execute it, the situation might not cooperate, or external factors might force you to give up.

Therefore, I could accept the audience’s absurd donations with a chuckle.

[KayaktoNationalAssembly donated 10,000 won!]

– Seriously, going mainstream is like a million subs on VTuber.

“Going mainstream? Isn’t that harder than hitting a million on VTuber? You need some connections with mainstream TV and stuff. Okay, I’ll write that down. Too chaotic? The original plan is meant to be all over the place. You heard me earlier.”

[It’s not completely impossible though, lol]

[The host has already made it to mainstream as a Gwanghwamun Girl, what are you talking about?]

[I mean actually getting on a proper program and such.]

[Riri says, ‘Kayak is the best output of Twitch’]

[Yeah, Riri said that too, lol]

[Taker’s been on a variety show, so what’s stopping Kayak?]

[You’re right; these days, VTubers are popping up on broadcasts a lot.]

[Riri acknowledged the world-class streamer, Kayak.]

Come to think of it, it was Riri who first brought this up. Just a few days ago, she confidently banged the desk from the spot I’m sitting in now and shared her thoughts. Though she was completely drunk at the time.

I heard she’s been continuing her broadcasts in a bit of a different style since that day. The people who tuned in after our drinking broadcast were not few, and the term “broth” has now been designated as the name for her fandom.

As a result, Riri saw a significant increase in viewership and entered her second golden era. When I checked in not long ago, her broadcasting style had changed quite a bit. Instead of the gentle and quiet broadcasts of the past, it’s now a show where she hurls insults at the viewers left and right.
I don’t know if it was what she wanted or if she was forced to change her broadcasting style by viewers who developed new tastes, but it turned out well in many ways. Riri also seemed to have made a fresh start fitting for the new year.

In that sense, I couldn’t afford to fall behind either. I have to live my life to the fullest. I should make an effort to accomplish as many things as I can from this New Year’s resolution list.

“I think I’ve written down everything I needed. Let’s read it once.”

Broadcasting 7 times a week… If I broadcast just 1 hour a day, 7 times is still 7 times, right?

Not to annoy the viewers… That shouldn’t be too hard.

Achieving 1 million subscribers on V-Tube… It seems like if I keep going as I am, this should be doable.

Getting into terrestrial broadcasting? I really have no idea if that’ll happen. I think that’s outside my reach.

It’s probably just a matter of luck if I somehow get invited to appear on a broadcast. Just like how I unintentionally ended up following Riri and ended up getting an interview and appearing on the news…

*

However, at lunchtime the very next day, I was faced with surprising news during a meeting with the editors.

“Um, Boss. We got an invitation to appear on a broadcast.”

“What broadcast is that?”

Actually, that’s where things started to get strange. Traditionally, if you appear on another streamer’s show or do a video together on a V-Tube channel, it’s referred to as a “collab,” but this was termed an invitation to appear on a broadcast, which already felt strange.

I caught on a bit late. Yusia continued speaking, calm yet unable to hide her excitement.

“It’s a program called ‘Midnight Talk.’ It’s on MTC, broadcast every Thursday evening at 8 PM.”

“MTC? Who’s that…?”

“MTC? That MTC?”

It was rare for Kim Jae-jun to raise his voice, and only after hearing further explanation did I realize what was going on.

Just yesterday, I was talking about terrestrial broadcasting with the viewers during my stream…

And now, I had received an invitation from terrestrial broadcasting, for me.
