Chapter 246

Chapter: 246

The overall situation was overwhelming.

The dwarves’ new weapon. A preemptive strike using a catapult. The fireworks scattered from the sky set fire to a wide area, burning the goblins.

The panicked goblins tried to escape the flames and eventually began rushing forward, likely thinking the fire was coming from their enemies in front of them.

And thus, the soldiers faced off against the goblins.

The infantry steadily pressed the front lines, while the knights dashed forward at high speed, shattering the clustered groups of goblins.

The beastmen, though not as fast as mounted knights, moved faster than humans, flanking the enemy from the sides. The goblins, suddenly surrounded, crumbled helplessly.

In the center, where the enemy was most concentrated, the small rat beastmen formed a tightly packed shield wall larger than themselves and began to exert pressure. The rat beastmen, with their solid formation, methodically dealt with goblins using spears that poked out between their short swords and shields.

The lizardmen ran amok, cleaving goblins with their obsidian weapons. That was quite sufficient for them.

Above them, arrows loosed by elves soared under the guidance of the wind spirits, targeting goblins and orcs possessing special abilities. The goblins who shot ice and raised the dead were easily sniped.

Magic cast by wizards created walls of flame where goblins were concentrated, instantly reducing them to nothing but ash.

The goblins began to be pushed back overall. Special goblins and orcs attempted to change the tide of battle, but soon found themselves under fire from elven arrows.

The goblins faced arrows powerful enough to claim their lives in an instant. An orc blocked these arrows with his club, roaring out as he charged at the humans, fully displaying his savagery.

An orc swung at the humans holding spears with his club, but his actions were interrupted by others.

“Kyaaaaah!! Die!!”

A primal roar echoed from behind. The orc instinctively raised his club, and the lizardman’s weapon, densely inlaid with obsidian blades, sunk into the club.

“You! You’re quite strong! Come and fight me!!”

“Kurrrrrr!!”

“Accept it as a compliment! Humans! Stand back!! Interference will not be tolerated!”

In an instant, the humans retreated from the two, but several goblins who didn’t grasp the situation rushed toward the lizardmen, only to be turned into goblins once again by the orcs and lizardmen.

Not only the lizardmen, but the orcs weren’t going to allow interference either. They only glared at one another.

And thus, a small arena formed in the middle of the battlefield.

“Everything is going smoothly so far.”

“It might be thanks to the reinforcements being stronger than we expected.”

The Ratkinia Shield Corps, holding firm against the pressure from the front, and the Bistria Allied Forces exploiting weak points with their mobility.

Elf hunters targeting goblins attempting to command or use special powers, and wizards igniting magical flames throughout the battlefield.

From the dwarven new weapon testing team showering the goblins with fireworks as a signal to initiate the war, to the lizardmen rampaging in search of worthy foes.

Everyone was exhibiting amazing performance.

“Thankfully, the casualties are decreasing.”

The soldiers involved in the war were their own people, so fewer casualties were undoubtedly better.

Furthermore, severely injured individuals were being transferred to the rear for treatment by the priests of the Life Church.

As long as they weren’t facing instant death… the situation was one where even minor injuries would likely not lead to death.

If things continued this way, they’d be able to achieve victory with minimal damage.

If they could just keep this up.

Kuuung!

The air in the battlefield turned still. A heavy presence loomed over the scene.

From the opposite side of the battlefield, something enormous began to rise.

From a throne haphazardly built from piled rocks, the king of the goblins emerged.

“Are you coming?”

The Knight King gazed at the colossal being rising from across the battlefield.

A green-skinned giant. A monster that could wrestle with a drake.

The ultimate evolution of goblins: the ogre.

“Hmm…?”

At that moment, something else flitted across the Knight King’s mind.

‘Is that ogre… the final destination? Really? What if, just what if… the ogre evolves even further…? When that day comes, what sort of monster will be born?’

A chill ran down the Knight King’s spine in that instant. If such a nightmare became reality…

BANG!!!

That thought shattered suddenly with a thunderous noise.

A crater had formed where the goblins and Ratkin’s Shield Corps clashed. The ogre stood within it.

The powerful shockwave caused the formation of shield-wielding ratkins to collapse, and the goblins scattered in chaos.

In such a scene, the ogre merely looked down upon the surroundings with an arrogant glare.

“That’s absurd.”

It was literally a monster.

“Should I have somehow brought the giant…?”

At that moment, there was no one on the battlefield capable of standing up to that monster.

With just the shock from its entrance, the once-sturdy Ratkin Shield Corps fell apart.

Elven arrows rained down on the ogre, and flames erupted from wizards.

But it was all in vain.

Despite its immense size, the ogre dodged nimbly, rampaging among the helpless goblins like a wolf in a flock of sheep.

Though the lizardmen recognized such strength and rushed to confront the ogre, even the once-mighty lizardmen were simply knocked down by a single strike.

No, even when they survived that blow, the resilience of the lizardmen appeared strangely abnormal.

“What should we do about that monster…?”

The lizardmen continued to fall, yet still pressed on against the ogre.

To be precise, no one besides the lizardmen could even hope to slow the ogre.

The lizardmen kept charging at the ogre, even as their scales tore and tails were severed, buying time.

Sinking obsidian spears into the ogre, and when their weapons shattered, they clung to it, biting at it with their teeth.

Even these strong lizardmen found themselves merely prolonging the inevitable against the ogre.

If it had been any other beast, not an ogre. If it were a mindless monster like a drake… perhaps the lizardmen might have been able to hunt it.

But.

“Kuaaaahhhhh!!”

Unlike those beasts, ogres were intelligent.

In other words, they could turn the tide of battle to their advantage.

“Stop that movement!!!”

“Stick the blade in!!!”

“Don’t let it reach the others!!!”

The lizardmen fought with all their might.

But they couldn’t stop the ogre. It leapt high, falling toward other humans, and none could intercept it.

The ogre began to distance itself from the troublesome lizardmen, targeting others.

Jumping up and heading to where the humans were weaker. Towards those launching fire and shooting arrows as if they were branches.

And to the one orchestrating the entire situation, wielding the flag.

To the one called the Knight King.

Seeing this, the Knight King hastily withdrew his horse, but the ogre’s weight crashed down, knocking him from his horse and sending him rolling on the ground.

“Kuaaaah!!”

“Ugh!”

The Knight King’s steed was shattered while the surroundings lay in ruins.

It had not performed any special attacks; merely leaping and landing had resulted in such devastation.

“What… a monster…!”

“Kurrrrrr….”

The ogre smirked, the corners of its mouth curling upwards.

This must be the one commanding those bothersome creatures.

The magical essence connecting those annoying souls was tied to this human, linked to the flag the human bore.

Thus, if this human were to perish, those annoyances would scatter in chaos.

That was the ogre’s thought.

“Ugh…”

The Knight King ripped off his battered helmet and surveyed the area. His companions were sprawled about, thrown back by the ogre’s landing. Some seemed to have lost their lives due to the impact.

The wizards were primed to cast their fire magic, but couldn’t do so; they were too close to the ogre.

The elves, too, aimed their arrows, yet those could hardly inflict serious wounds on the ogre. At best, they might pierce the skin covering vital areas.

The lizardmen who had been rampaging on the battlefield were now rushing after the ogres, but their paths were obstructed by soldiers.

By the time they reached the ogre, the Knight King’s life would have already been forfeit.

Therefore, the Knight King gripped the flag tightly in his hand.

He was not afraid of death.

He had already lived long enough. He believed he had ruled well over many people.

He had fought and survived through numerous crises on many battlefields. He had come close to death countless times. Yet, he had persisted.

He had named his firstborn as his successor and tutored him well enough to ensure Romania would not fall with his demise.

With that, the Knight King briefly reflected on his life.

And then, he faced his own death.

A colossal green monster. He aimed the tip of the flag at its heart.

At least one strike. He yearned to pierce it with just one blow.

That moment.

Something plummeted from the sky.

Woof… Bbaengbbaa… Bbaengbba!
