Chapter 0

Prologue

Feeding the body is about food, but satisfying the hunger of the soul comes from hobbies.

Just as our bodies need three meals a day to stay healthy, if we neglect our hobbies, our souls could fall ill at any moment.

Some dive headfirst into video games, while others passionately embrace sports like soccer or basketball. Truly, there are an infinite number of hobbies on this planet. Moreover, hobbies often come crashing into our lives like fate itself, sometimes out of the blue.

Even if you steer clear of something all your life, convinced it’s not for you, a chance encounter could lead you down the rabbit hole, leaving you hopelessly hooked. It’s like being chosen by a hobby.

My hobby? TRPG.

Tabletop Role-Playing Game.

For the uninitiated, it’s the hyper-evolved version of the RPGs we played as kids, where we scribbled our adventures on notepads.

Back in my college days, I found myself reluctantly dabbling in TRPG after my girlfriend put the pressure on, and let me tell you, I had to go with the flow.

I still remember it like it was yesterday. My first session was “The Lost Mine of Pandelber,” and my first character was a barbarian named “Barian,” who insisted on referring to himself in the third person. His whole schtick? Using leftover mammoth bones as his weapon of choice. Grunt!

Barbarian Barian’s epic adventure in a fantasy world ended with a bang—or more like a catastrophic failure, after many twists and turns.

Just like how a masterpiece retains its essence even if you skim through it, a story that bombed still carried its unique aroma, even in its summarized form. Our dear Barbarian Barian got suddenly ensnared by a Northern Duke (male, 16, handsome lad, Swordmaster, Level 20) and, plot twist, met his end wallowing in a cesspool.

Splat!

As luck would have it, I broke up with my girlfriend right after the session wrapped.

The pain of heartbreak lingered for only a little while before I became utterly enchanted with my newfound hobby: TRPG.

With endless freedom and the chance to unleash my imagination as I pleased, the joy of weaving stories with others filled my heart. Sure, there were always those pesky villains trying to wreak havoc on my sanity with their limitless freedom, but hey, it was a small price to pay.

TRPG, my love, my light, my life, my refuge, my very soul…

My one and only salvation from this tumultuous life, healing my weary spirit!

Sure, there were emotionally draining moments, but the joy of TRPG wound itself into the fabric of my life.

Even with death knocking on my door, having just been hit by a car, wasn’t TRPG the first thing that popped into my mind?

If there’s an afterlife…

And if I have the chance to pick my next life’s hobby…

You bet I’d choose TRPG all over again…
TRPG…

No, wait, wouldn’t it be simpler if my only lifelong hobby was working out instead?

How did I get swept away into this madness?

Geez.

“So, you’re saying you’re going to use Illusion Magic to create a world and dive headfirst into TRPG or something?”

“Yes.”

Even after reincarnating, I just can’t quit.
