Chapter 7: Trying Out Appraisal Magic
As soon as I returned to the mansion, Rose immediately captured Crocus and Dahlia.
Now, I can’t believe the Midakudo Trading Company has only these two as spies.
Time to use Appraisal Magic!
Appraisal Magic reveals the current state of a person.
There’s also Title Appraisal; if I use that, I should be able to tell if they’re spies.
My title is “Pig Noble,” though…
So, I went ahead and appraised everyone in the mansion one by one.
Out of a total of 28 people—20 maids, 3 chefs, and 5 gardeners—I found 8 of them!
Including Crocus and Dahlia, there were 7 maids and 1 gardener.
I decided to restrain them and lock them up in the torture chamber.
As expected of an evil noble, there’s a torture chamber!
After locking up the spies, it was time to search for evidence.
Well, Ballad, the evil noble, has money and power, but until now, he wasn’t very smart or capable.
He’d been used pretty well, it seems, and because of that, they didn’t bother to hide any evidence.
So much evidence emerged, like directives from the Midakudo Trading Company.
If it were the old Ballad, he would have surely killed all the spies by now, but that would be a bad move.
The Midakudo Trading Company is supposed to be a legitimate merchant.
Since Ballad is an evil noble and hated, if he threw a tantrum and killed innocent maids, it would be an issue.
This could jeopardize my plan to travel around the Baldoland world and have fun.
So, I decided to leave the handling of this to Father.
I sent the evidence documents and the spies from the Midakudo Trading Company to the Duke’s main estate.
And I decided to cut off all dealings with the Midakudo Trading Company.
Originally, there was a butler in charge of operations, but I selfishly insisted on having all women except for the gardener and chefs, so the maids ended up doing the work.
When Iris was doing the clerical work, she got acquainted with Saintpaulia from the orphanage.
Their friendly relationship continued even after Iris stepped away from her duties.
For some reason, it seems someone consulted me about a sudden budget cut.
So, they forcibly took me to the orphanage to show me the situation and hoped to resolve it somehow.
Now that Crocus and Dahlia are gone, starting tomorrow, I’ll have to handle clerical tasks myself.
My daily schedule looks something like this:
Morning: Radio exercises
Walking
Breakfast
Clerical work
Lunch
Magic training
Radio exercises
Walking
Dinner
Reading
Sleep
There are 1,078 days left until my planned date of death.
