Chapter 31: Orphanage Curry

Chapter 31: Orphanage Curry

Until the escort for the orphanage arrives for safety, the maid Sumire has decided to stay overnight at the orphanage.

Sumire was formerly a priestess and had been exterminating ghost-type monsters, but after having a dispute with the temple, she was fired and recently scouted by the handsome-loving Ballad-kun to become a new maid.

Today, she’s come to check if everything is alright with the escort duty.

“Sumire, any problems?”

“Everything’s fine, no issues, probably.”

On Sumire’s lap, Pome was sleeping with her head resting there—so envious of that lap pillow!

“Young master, did you bring back a mountain of something today? Is it ingredients, perhaps?”

“Yeah, I’ve been going around town looking for ingredients as always, but I still haven’t found the rice, cardamom, turmeric, or coriander which I wanted the most.”

As Mike and Pome’s ears twitched,

“C-Cardamom, turmeric, coriander—I’ve heard those before, woof!”

Pome suddenly woke from the lap pillow and dropped a shocking statement.

“Where did you hear those?”

“Umm, I-I think I heard it at my grandma’s shop, woof.”

“Then, take me to your grandma’s shop.”

I quickly pulled out some candy from my pocket and gave it to Pome.

“Le-Leave it to me, woof!”

She stood up straight and headed for the exit of the orphanage.

“Where are you going, meow?”

“To my grandma’s shop, woof!”

“Sumire, stay here and continue the escort duty. Iris and I will go with Pome to her grandma’s shop.”

Thus, the four of us—Mike, Pome, Iris, and I—headed to the shop.

The shop sign read “Nile,” part of the Southern Trading Association.

Sounds like a curry shop from the name, right?

Inside, there was a spry-looking old lady with wrinkly white hair.

“I brought a customer with me, woof!”

“I’ve heard you have cardamom, turmeric, and coriander. Is that true?”

“Oh, you’re after some rare items, huh? Yes, indeed, hee hee. But what are you going to use them for?”

“For cooking! I’m going to make curry.”

“Oh ho, so you know about curry? You’re quite knowledgeable for someone so young, aren’t you? I’ll sell it but there’s a condition, hee hee.”

“What kind of condition?”

“When you make the curry, I want to taste it too, hee hee!”

“Is curry really that delicious, meow?”

“You’ll find out when you eat it!” smirks

Finally, I got my hands on the spices for curry; a fanfare resounded in my heart.

In the orphanage’s kitchen, I was making curry together with Hunt.

I could make it alone, but I didn’t want to hear Hunt nag later about me doing it by myself, so it was better to team up.

Plus, I decided to let the kids at the orphanage be the first to taste it as a reward for finding the curry spices.

Even before it was done, the kids were watching intently in front of the kitchen.

The smell of curry must have been driving them wild with hunger.

Once it was done and I started serving everyone, they dove in and started eating at astonishing speeds.

Among them was also the old lady from “Nile.”

“I never thought I’d be able to eat curry in this town, hee hee.”

But unfortunately, it wasn’t complete—

There was no rice! It wasn’t curry rice, so I rated it only fifty points in my mind.

So, I dipped curry onto bread instead of rice and ate it.

“I’m glad I came to this town—this food is too delicious!”

As C-class adventurer Toto was walking along saying such things, a completely indescribable fragrant aroma wafted by.

Following the scent like it was leading him, he arrived in front of the orphanage.

“What kind of dish could that be? It’s an unknown smell I’ve never sniffed before.

Could it be something they’re making in this orphanage? Now that I think about it, they were recruiting for an escort.”

Toto immediately dashed toward the Adventurers’ Guild.

Death date in 1043 days.
