Chapter 29: Kidn*pping Attempt and C-Class Adventurer
It’s been about five days since I lost contact with the Grassland Wind.
I can’t believe they failed, but something must have gone wrong for sure.
I was supposed to collaborate with them to kidn*p the Sister at the orphanage, but it seems we have to go it alone.
I can’t keep Chairman Midakudo waiting any longer.
“Today, we’ll carry out the plan as discussed. Prepare the carriage!”
Zonre, the captain of the Midakudo Trading Company’s shadow unit, enveloped himself in black shadows and vanished from sight.
Ballad and the others had made it a daily routine to stop by the orphanage on their way back from the dungeon.
The orphanage was conveniently located right in between the mansion and the dungeon, making it a perfect resting spot.
Just as they were about to arrive at the orphanage, a scream pierced the air.
Rose immediately took off running.

I readied my gun from the back, keeping watch in case anything happened.
Two men came rushing out from the entrance, each carrying a large black sack.
“Give the Sister back, nyah!”
Mike and Pome darted out after the two men.
The black sack seemed to contain the Sister.
Just as they were about to board the carriage that had stopped in front, Rose caught up with them.
She swung her sword, cutting one of the men, but the other managed to get into the carriage with the sack.
I quickly shot at the wheel of the carriage to provide cover.
The carriage, now minus one wheel, toppled over, spilling out the driver and three men inside.
One had a sword, another a staff, and the last one held a chain, all ready to attack Rose.
The staff user unleashed a fire spell toward us.
Rose fought to protect Mike and Pome from getting caught up in the fray.
Mint was erecting a barrier without chanting, so the fire spell fizzled out just before reaching me.
I mercilessly fired my magic gun, taking down the staff-wielding sorcerer.
Mint’s barrier nullified magic, so even though I used magic power for the initial launch of the bullets, it transitioned to physical attacks and slipped through the barrier.
According to Mint, she could also create barriers against physical attacks.
Rose was struggling to hold off two attackers while protecting Mike and Pome.
Noticing their disadvantage as their ally the sorcerer fell, the kidnappers pressed a sword to the black sack.
“If you attack any further, this one’s life is forfeit!”
They had taken the Sister as a hostage.
“Hey, you maid! Drop your sword. And you in the back, drop that magic tool!”
“It’s not a magic tool; it’s a magic gun! Don’t get it wrong!”
With that, I tossed the gun aside, and Rose did the same with her sword.
“Stay right there until we escape!”
“I’ll go fetch a new carriage!”
Just as the man with the chain tried to leave, a figure sprang out from behind the toppled carriage.
The kidn*pper with the chain and the sword went down in an instant.
The man who took down the kidnappers introduced himself as Toto, a C-Class adventurer.
1044 days until my scheduled death!
