Chapter 24: Duel at Ronma Dungeon
“Well then, let’s dive into the dungeon today too!”
Just as I was eager to head into the dungeon, I was stopped by the receptionist, Marie.
After receiving a warning from the Guild Master, she advised that it wasn’t a good idea to enter the dungeon right now, but I decided to ignore her and go for it anyway.
Thanks to my knowledge of the game, I knew that the one targeting me was Grassland Wind.
If I know the target, I can counter it.
I’ll turn the tables on them!
In the original story, after my character’s demise, the Hero Party learned of the Midakudo Trading Company’s misdeeds and when the Grassland Wind came to silence them in the dungeon, the Hero Party’s Sword Saint dealt with them.
Let’s recreate that scenario ourselves!
I’m pretty sure that incident happened on the 20th layer of Ronma Dungeon.
I relayed the plan to Rose and Iris.
Being maids of the Duke’s Household, they were trained to respond to noble kidnapping attacks, so they agreed to follow my strategy.
It seems that adventurers avoid entering the dungeon while the Grassland Wind is around to steer clear of danger.
When I got down to the 15th layer, not a single adventurer was in sight.
This would be my first time in a battle against a person, but the real problem was whether I could actually kill someone.
In typical reincarnation stories, characters often can’t kill due to their previous memories, but perhaps because my mind fused with that of the villain Ballad, I felt little resistance to human combat.
Now I just had to hope my opponent underestimated me and let their guard down.
When I arrived at the 20th layer, a ragged-looking man called out to me.
“My friends have been injured by monsters—can you help me?”
The injured, skinny man stumbled towards me, bloodied.
“I managed to defeat the monsters, but my friend fell off a cliff, and I can’t pull them up alone. Please, help me, and I’ll repay you.”
“Okay, lead the way.”
The 20th layer was littered with rocks, not a single blade of grass in sight, but from behind large boulders and cracks, insect-like monsters emerged.
The C-rank adventurer team “Forest’s Shield,” Horlan, explained that one of his comrades had fallen into a crevice after fighting off the monsters.
Looking down into the crevice, I saw a bloodied figure sprawled out.
It was barely wide enough for one person to descend, so I decided to send the strongest among us, Rose, down to rescue him.
“Rose, I’m counting on you.”
“Leave it to me, Young Master.”
The moment I saw Horlan smirk as Rose descended, I pulled the trigger.
“What?! Why?!”
A hole appeared in Horlan’s abdomen where my gun had fired.
“Hah! So you really were that Hetta from the Grassland Wind! Changing your name and face didn’t change your status.”
“Damn you! Y-you had
With that last utterance, Hetta departed for the afterlife.
Just as Rose reached the injured man, who shouldn’t have been able to move, he hurled a knife aimed at her heart.
But Rose cut him down in one swift motion, knife and all.
Of course, the injured man was also a member of the Grassland Wind, that knife thrower named Gris.
“Damn it! So you were onto us!”
“I’m going to crush the ones who took out Gris and Horlan!”
Godo Pal from the Grassland Wind made his appearance.
1050 days left until my expected death.
