Chapter 18: Goblins of the Second Layer
The final boss of the first layer was a Big Slime, but I took it down with ease.
My level is now three.
There’s a safe zone between the first and second layers, so we decided to take a break there.
Other adventurers were present in the safe zone.
They all looked like beginner adventurers in light gear.
Intermediate adventurers are usually around the fifth layer, while veterans are found after the tenth layer.
“Let’s eat something first! I asked Hunt to prepare bento for everyone.”
“Really? We get to eat Hunt’s cooking instead of just portable food?”
“What’s a bento?”
Cattleya got excited about the meal, while Rose looked puzzled at the term “bento.”
Now that I think about it, I’ve heard bento is a Japanese cultural thing.
“It’s a fancy kind of portable food.”
I explained it casually.
“The filling is a sandwich with egg, ham, and potato salad.”
“It’s delicious!” Iris exclaimed.
“If I eat this, I won’t be able to go back to regular portable food!” Rose said.
“It’s amazing! It promotes long life!” Mint added.
Cattleya was speechless and on the verge of tears.
The beginner adventurers watched this scene in bewilderment while munching on their portable food.
After finishing our meal and enjoying some tea, it was time to tackle the second layer.
This was also a test to see if my magic gun worked on the goblins of the second layer.
The goblins hide among the ruins of buildings in the second layer and the strategy is to ambush the adventurers.
As we entered the rundown town, we spotted a goblin in the middle of the main street before it noticed us. I quickly aimed the gun and shot.
It blew its head off in one shot.
The magic gun worked on goblins too!
From here on out, I was picking off the goblins one by one.
The goblins here mostly wielded clubs, and occasionally some had bows, but with my longer range, I was dominating them.
Rose took care of a few stray goblins I missed, while Iris and Mint collected magic stones.
Our main objective in this dungeon was not just to level up, but to gather magic stones too.
Magic stones are super useful for crafting all sorts of things in alchemy.
The magical power of the stones can replace electricity for electronic devices or help activate magic circles, making magic stones essential for creating magical tools.
And since I’d gotten the hang of using the magic gun, I easily cleared the second layer.
In the safe zone between the second and third layers, there’s a teleportation magic circle that allows us to return to the entrance.
I decided it was time to head back.
I had only been checking out the dungeon and testing the magic gun against monsters, so there was no need to push my luck.
Next time I go into the dungeon, I’ll make sure to prepare my equipment properly for a serious dive.
“Well then, let’s go back.”
“Huh? We’re returning already? Let’s at least go up to the fifth layer!”
Rose complained, but I ignored her and headed back to the surface.
1061 days left until my scheduled death.
