Chapter 5: Taking His Place
Su Ze did not panic and cursed without mercy, “You idiot, you brainless fool!”
“After draining me dry and killing me, did you ever consider how you would open the gate of this containment zone?”
The Vampire chuckled, “Didn’t you tell us that as long as…”
As he spoke, his voice suddenly faltered, as if he had gotten stuck.
The gate of the containment zone was impenetrable and could only be opened from the outside. The Warden Captain on duty outside had to verify their fingerprints and enter a password to open the door.
Furthermore, Warden Captains habitually observed the situation behind the door before opening it.
Su Ze’s original plan was to have the Sickly Person control Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse to trick them into opening the gate. But now, Zhao Lingxiao’s face had caved in, and a lot of his blood had been siphoned by the Vampire, leaving him almost mummified. It was clearly impossible now, so one of the three had to impersonate Zhao Lingxiao.
However, neither the Vampire nor the Sickly Person matched Zhao Lingxiao’s physique. Su Ze, on the other hand, was carved from the same mold as Zhao Lingxiao.
This was under the premise that Su Ze was in normal condition. If he were to be drained into a mummy by the Vampire, he definitely wouldn’t be able to fool the Warden Captain.
With this thought in mind, the Vampire immediately stopped draining Su Ze’s blood.
Su Ze didn’t want to waste any more time and said in a low voice, “Let’s open the cell door first.”
In Su Ze’s escape plan, killing Zhao Lingxiao was a crucial step, as they needed a corpse to press the button that would open the cell door.
The console controlling the cell’s switch was fifty meters away. They could only rely on the Sickly Person’s corpse-controlling ability to open the cell door.
The Sickly Person’s corpse-controlling ability came from a rare third-tier exotic beast called the Nether Cat. This feline beast, covered in black fur, possessed a peculiar ability: corpses it touched would reanimate and be under its control.
The Sickly Person was fortunate enough to acquire this ability after absorbing a tube of Nether Cat extract.
However, this ability required him to come into contact with the corpse. Clearly, the Sickly Person, confined within the cell, couldn’t reach Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse on the floor.
Su Ze had already devised a solution for this. The Sickly Person bit his finger, extending the injured digit out of the small window.
The Vampire immediately controlled the blood to flow from the Sickly Person’s wound, forming a bloodline that connected to the Sickly Person’s injury on one end and extended to touch Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse on the floor.
Blood was also a part of the Sickly Person’s body, so this counted as contact between the Sickly Person and Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse. In the next moment, the deceased Zhao Lingxiao slowly sat up from the floor, albeit with stiff movements.
Success!
The three members of the escape team showed expressions of joy.
They had already collected the Warden Captain’s fingerprints, and now that they had successfully controlled the corpse, all the conditions for opening the cell door were met.
The Vampire grabbed one of Zhao Lingxiao’s fingers and scraped off the fingerprint with his fingernail. He then controlled the flowing blood to reform into a fingerprint, which was the Warden Captain’s.
Under the Sickly Person’s control, Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse strode towards the prison’s control console with quick but stiff steps.
After Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse manipulated the console, the cell doors of the Sickly Person, Su Ze, and the Vampire opened one after another. The three of them eagerly emerged from their cramped cells.
Su Ze immediately picked up the Head of the W from the floor. The Vampire’s eyes flashed with ferocity at the sight, but he did not act.
The Sickly Person, controlling Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse, walked back to the three of them and then released his control over the corpse.
Su Ze immediately took over, dragging Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse back into his own cell.
The closer proximity to Zhao Lingxiao’s corpse allowed Su Ze to more clearly smell the pungent perfume on him. Beneath the perfume… Su Ze faintly detected a foul odor!
Had decomposition set in so quickly?
No!
Su Ze suddenly realized that Zhao Lingxiao had used so much perfume to cover up that foul smell!
Could it be because of an improper private life, having contracted some illness recently?
Su Ze shook his head and didn’t dwell on it. He nimbly removed Zhao Lingxiao’s clothes and then took off his own prison uniform.
He wasn’t doing this because he was bored in the cell, but to exchange their clothes.
That’s right, Su Ze not only intended to wear Zhao Lingxiao’s clothes but also to have Zhao Lingxiao wear his prison uniform. He was going to take his place!
“Rest in peace, I will inherit your billions for you…”
Su Ze took off Zhao Lingxiao’s sunglasses and put them on his own face, then gently touched Zhao Lingxiao’s wide-open, angry eyes.
While Su Ze was changing clothes in the cell, the Vampire outside had a flicker of killing intent in his eyes and made a throat-slitting gesture towards the Sickly Person.
He meant to kill Su Ze now and then have the Sickly Person control Su Ze’s corpse to trick them into opening the containment zone’s gate.
The Sickly Person shook his head. The corpses he controlled moved stiffly compared to living people, and they couldn’t speak, posing a risk of being discovered. Their escape plan had already succeeded by more than half, and he didn’t want to take that risk.
Seeing that the Sickly Person disagreed, the Vampire had no choice but to give up.
A short while later, they saw Su Ze emerge wearing Zhao Lingxiao’s clothes. A hint of surprise and confusion flashed in their eyes. Zhao Lingxiao’s clothes fit Su Ze too well, as if they were tailor-made for him.
At first glance, they thought Zhao Lingxiao had been resurrected.
If Zhao Lingxiao hadn’t covered his face with a mask and sunglasses before, who knows what assumptions they would have made upon discovering that Zhao Lingxiao and Su Ze looked identical.
“They look so alike! There’s definitely no problem fooling the Warden!”
The Sickly Person and the Vampire gained more confidence in their successful escape.
Zhao Lingxiao’s clothes were intact, and all the bloodstains had been cleaned up by the Vampire. Only the mask had a small hole pierced by a blood arrow, which was not obvious and would be missed if not inspected closely.
“Let’s hurry,” Su Ze called out and took the lead towards the containment zone’s gate.
The Vampire and the Sickly Person crouched down and followed behind Su Ze.
They had many questions about what had happened tonight, but now was clearly not the time to satisfy their curiosity.
The three walked down the corridor for a while. After a turn, a few more steps, and they would reach the containment zone’s gate.
The Vampire and the Sickly Person stopped at the turn. If they went any further, the Warden Captain would be able to see them through the transparent glass on the gate.
They both hid in the corner, waiting for the gate to open so they could rush out.
Su Ze walked steadily to the gate and knocked lightly.
The Warden Captain outside peeked inside. He first looked at Su Ze, then glanced behind him, and then the sound of him pressing buttons to enter the password echoed.
Beep! Beep! Beep…
With each keystroke, Su Ze and the other two became more tense by the moment.
Finally, the sound of the lock cylinder turning was heard, and the gate slowly opened.
The Vampire and the Sickly Person, who had been poised and ready, immediately sprang into action. They leaped up and lunged towards the half-open gate like leopards.
As long as they got past this gate, their escape would be largely successful. It was late at night, and among the guards on duty outside, there was only one at the Cocoon Breaking stage, which was not enough to stop the two of them.
As for Su Ze, who was blocking their path at this moment, they didn’t care at all.
With their physical fitness and explosive power, if Su Ze were to touch them, it would be like being hit by a speeding car, leaving him dead or permanently disabled.
But so what?
To them, Su Ze had completely lost his usefulness.
However, it was only then that they saw Su Ze, with his back to them, keeping one hand behind his back. In his palm, he clutched a small skull, its empty eye sockets facing them.
