Chapter 7

Even though the end results aren’t always satisfying, most people play games to have fun, right?

Even if it’s just to kill time, it’s still better than sitting around doing nothing. Humans are the kind of creatures who find joy in throwing rocks and hitting something, after all. League of Champions, with its teamwork and rivalries, maximizes that thrill, which is probably why it still has so many players.

Here I am, muttering “I’m gonna quit, I’m gonna quit” when I’m bored, yet I still can’t let go of this damn game. The friends who got me into it are probably still playing too.

But naturally, with all that, you end up stressed when competition gets too heated, when you lose, or when teamwork falls apart. I mean, I even got chat-banned because I couldn’t hold back after my team messed up their lane and then came to mine to dump their mistakes on me.

Honestly, though, I think I was right to yell at them. Letting that slide would’ve made me a pushover. It’s unfair that the game punishes me for lashing out while letting those guys roam free.

Anyway, if infighting ruins the game mid-match, of course it’s not fun. Some people say that stress is part of the game and you should enjoy it, but who wants to be a saint? I don’t want to do things that aren’t fun, and I think anyone would feel the same.

So, if the mood’s already toxic before the game even starts, I just force-quit. Leaving mid-game means you’re giving up, but quitting before it starts is fine.

Our team was already fighting, and they were picking champions that didn’t make sense. It was obvious that even if the game started, it’d be a slog. If we’re going to lose anyway, there’s no point in playing along.

“It’s a trash game where trolls have the loudest mouths.”

So, I left the lobby. I waited until the last second before the game started, but everyone just kept yelling at each other, and no one dodged.

They’ll probably pull the same nonsense in the next game. What can you expect from a game filled with those kinds of people? They’ll find any excuse to fight.

Not like I’m any better, playing this game myself. But hey, whether I complain or not is my business.

[Queue Participation Failed]

Due to abandoning or declining multiple matches during champion selection, you are currently unable to join the queue.

Penalty Wait Time: 5:47

They never punish the real trolls, but they’re strict with players who quit or even just vent their frustration.

Some say, “If you don’t like it, quit,” but I haven’t touched any other game, and honestly, it’s too much effort to learn and master a new one, especially when I’ll be dead soon anyway. So, I guess I’ll just have to suck it up.

I stared blankly at the penalty notification, then opened a browser. I used to play mindlessly, but now that this is pretty much my life, I feel the need to stay updated on game info.

So, when I’m not playing, I browse game communities. I don’t dive into patch notes, but I at least check out the current meta, buffs, and nerfs for champions.

[Is Malphite Seriously Overpowered?]
— en2l2
He just clicks from laning to teamfights lol. Whether we win or lose, it’s just miserable. Nerf him already, this is ridiculous.

[Stop Over-nerfing Bruiser Items]
— ppmen
Don’t like bruisers running wild with armor-piercing items? That’s because warrior items are trash. Balance team, do you even play the game?

[Joker’s Current Status]
— GiveMeBackMyDepth
Reclaimed Solo Queue Rank 1. Just dominating the table.

There were complaints about popular champions, item builds, and nonsensical patches. Some posts made sense, others made me tilt my head in confusion.

But honestly, I don’t care about the developers’ intentions or players’ frustrations. I just keep an eye on the rise and fall of champion and item trends to exploit them.

A hidden OP champion? I’ll try it and use it as a pocket pick if it works. A cheap build that’s trending? Ban it because it’s annoying. Champs flooding the top lane lately? I’ll prep the counter picks.

Sure, I could read patch notes or feel it out in-game, but community opinions are helpful too.

They’re like statistics, and you can learn from others’ trial and error. No reason not to use that info.

That said, I don’t watch streams or tournaments. I’d rather play another game in that time.

Sure, there’s something to learn from pro plays, but when I’m stuck with a penalty, a quick community browse gives me the highlights and summaries.

But diving into communities also means stumbling into info I didn’t want.

Complaints about horrible players were mild. Someone’s dinner menu? Whatever. A picture of a half-naked old lady? Just bait for attention.

But a photo mentioning my ID? That’s not something I could ignore.

[This Hacker Still Not Banned?]
— Chopin

Noel#KR1, can you see their match history? Their gameplay’s so off, I’ve been tracking them since last month. They were hardstuck Silver for two years, then suddenly hit Master last month. Sure, skill levels are more even now, and low-tier players can have good mechanics. I’ve seen Blbong get schooled in Gold before. And with the current meta favoring braindead playstyles, maybe they got lucky. I get that.
But anyone who’s played with them knows. Top lane mains are usually aggressive by nature. They’ll hit back twice if hit once, even if it means taking a hit themselves. They focus on precise skill execution.
At this ranking, you’d expect them to dodge crucial skills using dashes or Flash.
But this guy does it mechanically.
(Video)
Look at this teamfight in slow motion. In a 5v5, non-targeted skills are unavoidable. You can’t react to character animations mid-fight, only in duels.
But look at Noel’s Jackson movement. They jumped onto the AD carry hit by Cassius’ ult, stunned them, and were in position to finish them with a combo. But instead of securing the kill, they dodged. Fiddlesticks’ fear didn’t land, and they Flashed to dodge Ahri’s charm.
Sure, Fiddlesticks is a lottery, but dodging Ahri’s charm at that range?
This one clip might be a fluke, but all my recordings show the same thing. Every game, every fight, this happens.
If this guy isn’t hacking, I’ll gift them 200,000 won worth of premium beef.

— JohnnyWalkerHand:
But they don’t really ward much. They’ll get a kill and die, or turn a gank into a double kill… If you say that’s because of hacks, it kinda makes sense.
— LipsWorkingHard:
Yeah, I’ve played with them. Everyone says they’re notorious. They’re especially blind to enemies from the left… Is that a hack thing?
— JohnnyWalkerHand:
I’ve never used hacks, so idk. If they’re weak on the left, does that mean they don’t turn on the map hack on the purple team?
— Tentalilybon:
Hand over the beef.
— Chopin:
Not to you, to them. Anyway, it’s clear they’re hacking.
— LOC_GonnaBePro:
For real, they were hardstuck Silver for two years, then suddenly Master? And they’re climbing daily? What enlightenment did they have lol.
— Chopin:
Their match count spiked a month ago… I think they might’ve sold their account to a hacker. Or maybe it’s hacking—someone testing hacks on others’ accounts.

Hacking suspicions. It’s a common in-game accusation.

But if I really thought they were hacking, I’d have reported them, and the game company would’ve reviewed it. The fact that they’re still playing means the doubts should’ve faded.

Calling someone a hacker is just another way of saying, “You’re really good at the game.” But hearing it over and over is exhausting, especially when it’s laced with insults.

Now, even being told I’m good doesn’t feel like a compliment. At my level, it’s just words that sting like needles, poking at my chest.

But what am I supposed to do? Making a fuss to defend myself on some obscure site is pointless.

Not seeing the minimap… It’s because I only have one eye, so the left side is harder to see. I try to check the minimap, but when I’m focused on the game, it’s easy to miss.

If I flipped the interface, I’d struggle to check enemy health, mana, buffs, and debuffs.

But people online only believe what they want and say what they want to say. They never back down, especially in League of Champions.

Bitter and annoyed, I closed the community. It’s not like they can do anything to me anyway.

Most of them just needed something to vent about, and I happened to be the target. The ones truly mad at me are probably the ones I beat. They can’t admit I’m better, so they blame hacks.

“It’s all my fault, huh? You jerks. This trash game.”

Muttering, I pushed my desk and rolled my chair away. Then I flopped onto my bed. I didn’t feel like playing at all.

Is It My Fault Again?

Yeah, it’s all my fault. Don’t worry, I’ll just die once I run out of money.
