Chapter 12: Waiting for Jail Time
Inside the white Maybach, Xiuqi Chi called Jingxian Xiang. “I’ve booked a table at Huayue. My assistant will take you there first.”
Jingxian Xiang looked at the photo of Yeyun Ye going to the police station on her mobile phone, her voice filled with cheerfulness, “Okay. By the way, Xiuqi, how is your sister’s matter progressing?”
Jingxian Xiang’s question came at just the right time. Yuexiang Yang, unaware Xiuqi Chi was on the phone, opened the car door and said, “Mr. Chi, your wife and Yuxun Xia have left.”
The hand holding the mobile phone tightened abruptly. Xiuqi Chi said coldly, “I know.”
Jingxian Xiang naturally overheard this. She exclaimed in surprise, “Sister is now your nominal wife, Xiuqi. How can she be with another man? This will have too big an impact on your reputation.”
Xiuqi Chi was certainly aware of this. After Jingxian Xiang reminded him again, his tone became increasingly impatient, “Jingxian, don’t worry about it. I will handle these matters.”
After speaking, Xiuqi Chi had no further desire to chat. Fearing that Jingxian Xiang would overthink things, he softened his voice as he ended the call.
After hanging up, Jingxian Xiang’s expression turned grim.
It seemed Xiuqi Chi still paid close attention to Yeyun Ye’s movements.
And to the child Yeyun Ye was carrying.
If Xiuqi Chi really wanted to investigate, the forged proof she had made would easily be exposed by him. Before that, she had to ensure Yeyun Ye couldn’t give birth to that child.
With this thought, Jingxian Xiang dialed a number from her contacts, “Find someone to get rid of Yeyun Ye’s child today. It would be best if she thinks Xiuqi Chi is responsible.”
The sooner the better, to avoid any complications.
The man on the other end of the line agreed, his voice oily, “Then don’t you owe me a little taste of sweetness?”
The thought of being unable to shake off people like him sent a shiver down Jingxian Xiang’s spine. However, she outwardly agreed, “Don’t worry. Once I’ve secured my position with Xiuqi Chi, I’ll come to you.”
Yuxun Xia took Yeyun Ye to his place. He could clearly feel Yeyun Ye’s dejection throughout the journey. As they got out of the car, he instinctively reached out to support her, but was refused.
“I can manage it myself,” Yeyun Ye said softly. “Will it be too much trouble for you if I stay here?”
“It’s not trouble,” Yuxun Xia replied. “You can sleep in my room tonight. I’ll find a housekeeper tomorrow.”
Hearing Yuxun Xia’s words, Yeyun Ye felt a warmth spread through her heart.
She wasn’t unaware of Yuxun Xia’s feelings. But seeing his earnestness at this moment, the refusal that came to her lips couldn’t be spoken.
Yuxun Xia’s home wasn’t very large, but it was more than enough for two people.
After settling Yeyun Ye, Yuxun Xia found a bottle of pills in the medicine cabinet and handed them to her. “I have a surgery to attend at the hospital later. If you feel particularly unwell, take two. It won’t affect the fetus.”
Yeyun Ye could only thank Yuxun Xia for his thoughtfulness, not knowing what else to say.
After Yuxun Xia left, Yeyun Ye sat on the sofa. Even though this was Yuxun Xia’s home, in this unfamiliar environment, she felt uneasy.
Closing her eyes, her mind was filled with the image of Fang Wu forcing himself on her. Yeyun Ye pressed her temples, looking at her quiet mobile phone, and gave a self-deprecating laugh. What was she still hoping for? Xiuqi Chi would probably be happier than anyone when she left. How could he ever come looking for her?
A rushed doorbell rang. Yeyun Ye stood up to open the door. “Did you forget something…?” Yeyun Ye’s voice trailed off.
Only when she was bound and bundled into the car did Yeyun Ye slowly realize she had been kidnapped.
“What are you doing! If you do this, Xiuqi Chi won’t let you go.” Yeyun Ye still instinctively thought of Xiuqi Chi.
But her words were met with a scoff. “Your husband is the one who wants us to do this.”
Yeyun Ye’s eyes widened. “Impossible!”
“You really won’t give up until you’re cornered,” a masked man said, pulling a voice recorder from his pocket. “Listen to this. Is it your husband’s voice?”
As the man pressed play, Xiuqi Chi’s voice came from the recorder: “I want you to find Yeyun Ye and get rid of her child.”
Then came Yeyun Ye’s unfamiliar voice: “Mr. Chi, she’s your wife. Even a tiger doesn’t eat its cubs. If you were to resent me for this later, wouldn’t I be in trouble?”
Then, under Yeyun Ye’s disbelieving gaze, she heard Xiuqi Chi’s usual cold voice: “That’s just some bastard child she had with another man.”
Bastard…
Yeyun Ye didn’t know when tears had already streamed down her face:
She had told him so many times that the child was his, so why didn’t he believe her?
Why would he get rid of his own child based solely on Jingxian Xiang’s words!
The immense grief overwhelmed Yeyun Ye. Thinking of the man’s various taunts and disdain, Yeyun Ye’s last defense crumbled.
Yeyun Ye was taken to a derelict construction site. The man roughly threw her onto the ground. Yeyun Ye’s hands were tied, and she couldn’t protect the child in her belly. She struggled to retreat, her only plea being, “Please let me go, please…”
But the man paid no heed to Yeyun Ye’s pleas. He slapped her across the face. “Mr. Chi specifically said he wanted us to ‘entertain’ you properly before getting rid of your child.”
Yeyun Ye gritted her teeth, one thought consuming her: the child must be alright. She curled herself up, trying to absorb the pain with her back, but her consciousness gradually blurred…
“Boss, if you hit her any harder, it’ll be a double fatality…”
Hearing his subordinate, the man slowly stopped. “Go, force-feed this woman the medicine.”
As the subordinate took out the medicine, they heard a panicked shout from the lookout: “Bad news! The police are here! Hurry up and leave!”
No one expected the police to arrive so quickly. The man paused for a moment, then kicked Yeyun Ye in the belly in a fit of rage. Seeing his subordinate still stunned, he cursed, “Are you waiting to go to jail?”
The kidnappers fled in disarray, and the blood-covered Yeyun Ye was rushed to the hospital again.
Yuxun Xia, who was about to finish his shift, received an emergency notification. Seeing “Yeyun Ye” on the name list, he broke out in a cold sweat…
