Chapter 10: The End of Despair, a Miracle Emerges
It was an unfathomable darkness.
He didn’t know where it came from, but in the instant the Hero didn’t react, it violently collided with the bottom of the Star of Ruin, forcibly intercepting it with unparalleled strength.
“What is that…?” The Hero quickly activated the Eye of Truth, wishing to see the truth of that darkness.
But.
The Hero’s face was filled with shock; the Eye of Truth was a world-class skill obtained from the God of Truth. This was the first time in his life that he encountered something it couldn’t identify.
However, even though all the information was a question mark, one thing was certain.
This was a character information panel.
That was a person.
…
On the other side, Gideon now felt as if he had seen a ghost.
Why was there a divine magic barrier on the surface of the Apophis Meteor?!
Earlier, to chase after the meteor, Gideon transformed into dark elemental form.
Shadow Demons are dual-attribute monsters of soul and shadow, and Gideon’s appearance was constructed from his soul and dense dark magic power.
To gain greater speed, Gideon had suppressed his form, condensing his soul to the core and forcing the dark magic power stored within the core outwards to act as propulsion.
In this form, Gideon lost his physical shape, appearing as a vast mass of darkness.
And if the energy within this darkness were to go out of control, its destructive power could easily obliterate a tenth of the world.
After all, the magic power of the strongest Demon King in history was no joke.
Yet, even in dark elemental form, Gideon was still at a disadvantage before the Star of Ruin.
Logically speaking, a mere meteor should evaporate under Gideon’s unfathomable magic power the moment he collided with it.
But the problem was that this meteor’s surface actually had a layer of magical barrier, and worse, it was the most troublesome divine magic.
The hot flames on the surface of the Star of Ruin were scorching Gideon’s core; he could feel his life points rapidly diminishing.
Looking at the mysterious magic barrier on the surface of the Star of Ruin, Gideon smiled helplessly. He realized that leaving the human realm after destroying the Apophis Meteor was now impossible.
Now, he had two choices: either rush away with his tail between his legs, or confront it head-on.
Live or die—what a dilemma?
If it were his former self, he would probably run away.
“Be cautious, if possible, survive; living is greater than everything.”
This was his life principle from his previous life. It was because of this belief that he was able to defeat the nine Demon Kings, breaking through to level 999 and becoming the strongest Demon King in the world.
But this time, everything was different.
Wealth, power, lifespan…
These things pursued by the world, he had grown tired of in his previous life.
To be honest, when he lay resting in the Abyssal Demon Palace, he was very confused because he didn’t know what he wanted to do.
The only thing he cared about was Joy.
That was what mattered most in his life.
Since Joy was in danger, he wouldn’t flee, nor could he. Even if he died here, he would destroy that damned meteor!
Saving Joy—perhaps that was the meaning of his rebirth.
Having come to this resolution, Gideon hesitated no longer.
No retreat was left; he released all his dark magic power!
“Boom!”
The darkness surrounding Gideon expanded again; it was as if he were a black hole, managing to swallow the Star of Ruin that spanned several kilometers.
“Crack!”
Suddenly, amidst the boundless darkness, the magical barrier of the Star of Ruin cracked open.
“Crack, crack, crack…”
The sound of shattering echoed continuously as the magical barrier was disappearing at a visible rate.
“Great job!” On the surface, the Hero jumped up excitedly.
Through the Eye of Truth, although the Hero couldn’t see the true form of that darkness, she could clearly see the state of the Star of Ruin in the heart of the darkness.
At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before the magical barrier on the surface of the Star of Ruin was completely eroded by that boundless darkness.
When that happened, the Star of Ruin within it would be instantly consumed by that darkness.
But just then, the system’s voice suddenly rang out.
“System…” For some reason, hearing the system’s voice at that moment, the Hero felt a foreboding sensation rise within her.
“What?” The Hero could hardly believe her ears, shouting, “System, are you crazy?!”
“Scoundrel!” The Hero couldn’t hold back any longer and cursed, “I don’t care if it’s a bug or not; all I know is that it’s attacking the Star of Ruin and will soon succeed, saving the lives of eighty million people.”
The Hero sneered, “Moreover, I have exhausted all my magic power now. I can’t use any skills. How am I supposed to attack it?”
The Hero’s face turned icy as she resolutely decided in her heart that after this matter was resolved, she would have to visit Saint Franca and force that ridiculous thing out of her head.
However, just as the Hero thought this, the system’s voice reappeared.
“Get lost!” The Hero said coldly.
“Get lost!” The Hero replied, “I will absolutely not do such a despicable thing as backstabbing.”
This time, the system’s voice was no longer cold as before; instead, it became solemn and grand, like the laws of heaven and earth, impossible to resist.
“You…” The Hero wanted to say something, but in the next moment, her expression instantly became dazed, and with a thud, she collapsed to the ground.
However, the Hero quickly got up from the ground, only her once radiant silver eyes now dull and devoid of light.
“Detected low physical magic value.” The Hero paused for a moment, then stated emotionlessly, “Optimal solution deduced.”
Saying this, the Hero reached out into the void, and Freyke instantly appeared in her hand.
She slowly approached and stood before the barely functional Calandia, raising the Holy Sword.
“Skill, Blood Sacrifice, activate.”
…
“78, 79, 80…”
In the sky, as time passed, Gideon could clearly feel himself growing weaker.
But fortunately, the magical barrier was about to shatter; he should be able to completely destroy that damned meteor before his life points reached zero.
However.
“Boom!”
A golden beam shot up to the sky, directly crashing onto Gideon’s core.
“Ahhh!”
A cry of pain erupted as Gideon felt as if he was going insane.
This light, this sensation, he was all too familiar with.
This was the brilliance of the Holy Sword.
Gideon’s mental force was instantly released, and he saw the figure on the surface clad in golden armor.
The Hero! That damned Hero!
She was here to ruin his good deed!
Endless fury surged within Gideon; if possible, he wanted to charge down and tear that damned Hero to pieces.
But he couldn’t do that; they were just a bit away from the magical barrier on the Apophis Meteor completely shattering.
“Ah!!!”
The impact of the meteor, the searing flames, the curse of the Saint Lania Barrier, the golden flash of the legendary Holy Sword—all these attacks compounded together caused Gideon’s life points to plummet rapidly.
Gideon endured the excruciating pain from his core and focused all his energy on the magical barrier.
“Crack, crack, crack…”
The sound of shattering rang out continuously.
As Gideon attacked with all his might, the magical barrier rapidly shattered, soon reaching its limit.
Finally.
“Boom!”
The magical barrier on the surface of the Star of Ruin suddenly collapsed, and Gideon gathered all his strength, aiming to obliterate the silver meteor with one strike.
Yet.
“Crack.”
Again, a crisp sound of breaking echoed.
And this time, it was Gideon’s core that shattered.
Gideon’s life points reached zero.
The thick darkness instantly dissipated, and a pitch-black orb fell from the sky.
Gideon’s consciousness quickly melted away, and in his final moments, he gazed at the silver meteor in the sky, filled with unwillingness.
He hadn’t destroyed the Apophis Meteor…
Unwilling, unwilling, unwilling…
He had thought that in this rebirth, he could change many things.
But in the end, he hadn’t had time to do anything before he was going to die again.
And the culprit of it all——the Hero.
Kill him, kill him, if there’s a chance, he would definitely kill him.
But what was the use of saying this when he was about to die?
Could that self-proclaimed Evil God really revive him once more?
That seemed impossible; after all, this damned Apophis Meteor was brought here by him.
At the end of his life, a familiar figure flashed in Gideon’s mind.
He reached out to her, uttering words of repentance.
“Joy, I’m sorry…”
…
Darkness, boundless darkness.
A white-haired boy shackled with chains slowly approached himself.
He reached out his hand to him, his voice seemingly able to bewitch all things in the world.
“If you want to change all of this…”
“Then come and sign a contract with me…”
Guess there’s a reason why the Evil God is called evil lol
