Chapter 124

Chapter: 124

The man almost collapsed in shock upon hearing Lian’s voice. All the horror he had witnessed downstairs was still fresh in his mind.

The mustached man instinctively recalled the hellish scenes he had directly experienced just moments ago.

*

Just after escaping the laboratory where Noah was captured, the man encountered a lightly-dressed woman on his way to the main lab.

“Ah! Hello! Excuse me, but could you tell me how to get to Bucheon Station?”

The woman clearly did not look like a researcher or a test subject. That meant she was an intruder.

“Is she some crazy lady? Get rid of her quickly!”

Normally, he would have tried to subdue her for information, but in this urgent situation, he ordered her to be killed. His command led to a brutal result.

“Ah! Why are you doing this?”

As she was attacked with dark magic and a sword, the woman screamed and swung the small bag she was holding.

Thud!

The person struck by the bag had their neck snapped and died, and the wind generated by the wild swing sent researchers flying into the walls, their breaths cut short.

Realizing that things were turning bizarre, the man quickly retreated with a few researchers. The screams of those left behind echoed behind him.

When he finally arrived at the lab, he was greeted by the sight of tiny little people no bigger than fingers running around with toothpick-like swords, shouting, “War! Victory! Hoo!”

They clung onto researchers, stabbing them all over. If this had been in a comedic filter, it would have just been a ticklish sensation, but cruelly, this was a dark fantasy world.

One small person wasn’t a problem, but if their numbers exceeded a thousand, it became an issue. Like a swarm of ants, they mercilessly slashed at the researchers with their sharp swords.

Even though they were smaller than toothpicks, because they were all sharp blades, it only took an instant for the researchers to become drenched in blood.

Next, a dog appeared.

“Rrrr! Woof woof woof!”

The menacing-looking dog was strangely wearing a leash, with a long strand trailing behind it, as if its owner had let go.

With its eyes bulging, the dog chased after the researchers and sank its teeth into their behinds. In a comedic world, the victim would have screamed “Ouch!” and taken flight, but here, they were simply torn apart.

Crash! Bang! Crash!

A man with orange hair that defied gravity sprinted at an alarming speed, smashing through the walls and devices in his way mercilessly.

“Hahaha! Nothing can stop me!”

Even stranger was the fact that fire blazed in the man’s eyes. Running with a cheerful expression and no malicious intent, he was bizarre itself.

“Caw – Caw –…”

A bird with extraordinarily large eyes and tiny speck-like pupils ominously squawked while crapping all over the researchers’ heads.

Getting hit by the poop suddenly caused a researcher’s luck to plummet, causing them to trip and collide with a desk corner, cracking their head and wobbling away, only to crash into the gravity-defying man and go flying.

In normal circumstances, this would usually lead to a comical scene with someone turning into a star after getting hit, but in this dark fantasy world, they instead slammed into a wall with a pixelated effect.

“Eek! Die!”

All the researchers present were capable dark sorcerers, and they immediately tried to bring the enemy down with dark magic. Their attacks pooled together in one spot, like being sucked into a black hole.

In that spot stood a man with lace flowing from his sleeves and eyes that sparkled with what seemed like dozens of embedded jewels. The flamboyant man tossed his head to the side and flipped his waist.

“Phew, move move~”

With an annoyingly cocky wiggle of his rear, the man effortlessly dodged all the attacks while winking and adding,

“If you want to hit my heart, you gotta try a bit harder~”

The dark sorcerers, witnessing this, lost all rational thought and began unleashing magic wildly, only for their own magic to backfire, causing them to collapse while foaming at the mouth in fury.

“Oh! This looks useful!”

On another front, a muscular man, 2 meters tall and reminiscent of an orc, grinned contentedly as he pulled out a glass capsule and began squatting.

“Ahh -… this isn’t enough!”

He grabbed a passing researcher and unceremoniously stuffed them into the capsule, beginning to squeeze his thighs. Whenever he felt a bit of relief, he’d grab another researcher and shove them in.

The problem was that he wasn’t only putting researchers in. He also grabbed other bizarre test subjects passing by and stuffed them into the glass capsule.

In a comedic world, the people piled into the capsule would be squished and look like they were crammed into a rush hour subway, but here—… the sounds of bones cracking and screaming filled the air.

Even those who had carried out all sorts of cruel experiments were horrified by the hell unfolding before them.

“Tsk! This is getting bothersome. But… this is quite an interesting result. How do I produce such results?”

Even amidst that hell, the mustached man surprisingly wasn’t frightened. What he was trying to create was far more terrifying than those monsters.

“First, I need to clean up the test subjects and investigate. If this goes on, we’ll run out of manpower.”

Since the results they aimed for would be the ultimate weapon, this chaos was naturally a contingency plan. That’s why he felt at ease.

Even though he knew how to fix the situation, he was watching researchers die to destabilize the power structure within the lab.

Even if this chaos resolved well, the dead researchers wouldn’t come back, and the power structure divided into three would collapse. This meant his authority would grow stronger.

However, if too many researchers died, the research speed would slow down, so he thought it was time to wrap things up.

He activated a magical tool, and in an instant, his presence vanished.

“It was over there for sure.”

He quickly moved to activate the emergency device. Soon, he arrived at the door to a room located in a corner of the lab. He was about to open the door when he hesitated.

“Wait a second. Why hasn’t anyone activated the emergency device?”

No matter how chaotic the situation, it didn’t make sense that none of the researchers pressed the emergency button. Just as that thought crossed his mind,

“Gyaaaa! S-save me… Gurrr…!”
“…!”

Terrible screams began to echo from inside. It was a familiar voice— the lead researcher’s screams.

‘Is it possible… they didn’t fail to activate the emergency device but were unable to activate it?’

The lead researcher was not someone anyone could replace; they were a relatively strong dark sorcerer, at the very least. As the lead researcher’s screams reverberated, the man’s eyes began to shake.

‘Even so, I have to activate the emergency device.’

He set a resolute expression and activated all the magical tools he carried, layering multiple protective spells over himself.

‘Quickly get in and…’

After picturing his plan multiple times in his head, he swiftly opened the door.

Creeeak…

Like a scene from a horror movie, the door creaked open.

The first thing that came into view was the round face of a middle-aged man with white curly hair and small glasses. Half of the man’s face was mechanical. The mustached man was stunned, having never seen a cyborg like this in his life.

The cyborg, or rather, the mad scientist, tilted his head while holding a drill, looking down at a body whose stomach had been split open and whose organs were messily crushed.

“Hmmm, I just don’t get why they keep dying. It baffles me.”

The mad scientist, who seemed utterly confused, clicked his tongue and remarked,

“Geez, I should find some new test subjects.”

He roughly grabbed the body on the desk and flung it behind him. The thud of the thrown body landing on top of the already dead pile echoed in the room.

“Alright, then, let’s find a new test subject—…Oh? What luck I have!”

The scientist grinned brightly as he locked eyes with the mustached man.

“A test subject just walks in! What luck today!”

His eyes glimmered with madness. The mustached man had encountered many crazy researchers, but he had never seen anyone as crazy as this.

He unconsciously started to back away.

“Whoa there.”

The mad scientist pulled out a controller from inside his coat and started pressing buttons. Suddenly, the floor began to squeak and crack, and mechanical hands shot up to grab the man.

Ting!

The protective magic he had set beforehand deflected the mechanical hand. Just as he felt relieved, one layer of his protective magic shattered.

“What, what?!”

With even a lower-circle magic failing to protect him more than three times, and one peculiar hand shattering it, the man’s eyes shook like a stormy sea.

Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting!

The hands closed in fast, dismantling his protective shield indiscriminately.

“Hihihih!”

The mad scientist’s manic laughter made it feel as if the mustached man was about to faint.

*

Thanks to the magical tools he activated in advance, he managed to be dragged to the desk but barely escaped.

“Whew, how about we have some fun together, eh?”

He lost consciousness after being attacked by a cross-dressing man midway and was caught by the mad scientist again, just managing to escape.

…And even after shaking off horrific experiences that words couldn’t describe, he barely made it here.

In such a situation, a strange voice reached his ears, enough to make him freeze. He trembled and slowly turned around.

“Hah…!”

A flash of light sparkled in the dimming eyes of the man.

‘It’s still there!’

The essential substance needed to create a battle weapon—the King of Dark Spirits—was attached to some human body. His face lit up with joy.

‘Yes! With that, I can quickly recreate the battle weapon!’

Because he failed to recognize the father (?) of those strange beings he so feared, he made a foolish choice.
