Chapter 567

Chapter 569. The Pregnant Sister

“Sis! I’m here!”

On the weekend, Hei Dou excitedly dashed into the house, kicking off her shoes and going barefoot.

Though she was already a vocational school student, her lively personality remained, and her face and figure were still as youthful as a middle school girl—only her height wasn’t something to be ashamed of.

“Sis?”

Hei Dou picked up on an odd atmosphere in the room, the once-pervasive aroma of intimacy had notably faded.

She turned to look at Ning Chu, who was curled up on the sofa, looking dispirited while hugging a book, then glanced curiously at Wen Yang, who was busy in the kitchen.

After nervously slipping on some slippers, she cautiously probed, “Sis, did you guys… have a fight?”

“No, why do you ask that?”

“You seem a bit upset… did you argue with Mom?”

Ning Chu just shook her head, her gaze still fixed on the book resting on her thighs.

She was reading about baby care and early education, covering everything from how to take care of a baby to fostering interests and mental health; she had read dozens of books and felt drowsy.

“What are you reading?” Hei Dou leaned over the sofa arm, peering curiously. “Books on raising babies~”

She could clearly sense that Ning Chu’s mental state was rather poor; not only was her complexion a bit dull, but up close, Hei Dou noticed several pimples on Ning Chu’s once-smooth fair skin.

“Sis, you have pimples.”

“I know.”

Finally looking up, Ning Chu shot a glance at Hei Dou: “Mom told me you’re dating?”

“No way!” Hei Dou shook her head like a rattling drum, denying it vehemently. “I don’t have a crush on anyone.”

“Then why are you so nervous?”

“I’m afraid you’ll misunderstand~”

Ning Chu looked Hei Dou up and down. This cat never hid her feelings well; her face was written with anxiety and guilt, and after only two seconds of eye contact, Hei Dou’s face turned red, and she hurriedly averted her gaze.

“Wait, you’re really dating?”

To be honest, with Hei Dou’s looks, it wouldn’t surprise her if she had started dating in middle school.

“Not really… it’s just a bit ambiguous?”

“You’re not a kid anymore; just don’t get taken advantage of.”

Though she said that, Ning Chu still felt uneasy. If someone were to get after Hei Dou, they could easily sweet-talk her into bed in no time.

Hei Dou flopped onto the sofa and leaned on her sister’s shoulder, asking curiously, “So, how long did you know Brother-in-Law before you gave in?”

“Uh… a few months, maybe?”

“You’re pretty easy-going~”

“……”

Ning Chu pushed the cat head that was leaning on her shoulder away in embarrassment and irritation. “How old was I when I started dating? Do I even have good judgment?”

At that time, she had just turned into a girl; if it weren’t for Wen Yang taking advantage of the situation, she wouldn’t have given in so quickly!

“Dinner’s ready!”

Wen Yang’s voice called from the dining room, and Hei Dou immediately abandoned Ning Chu and scampered over, wagging her tail excitedly.

“I’m not really hungry~”

Hearing Ning Chu’s complaint, Wen Yang rushed out from the dining room in a panic.

“Are you feeling sick? What’s wrong?”

“Just lacking energy.”

She rolled her eyes at Wen Yang and slowly got up from the sofa, and Wen Yang quickly came over to support her arm.

It wasn’t like she was about to give birth and couldn’t walk; her belly was still quite flat—there were no signs of pregnancy at all, yet Wen Yang was still ridiculously nervous.

As he supported the Little Demoness, Wen Yang teased, “You didn’t want to eat last night, did you?”

“Don’t let Hei Dou hear that.”

Ning Chu lightly kicked Wen Yang’s shin.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to eat; it’s just that once Wen Yang felt comfortable, she found it hard to suppress her impulses!

Over these past three months, she had wanted to be an uninvolved, dispassionate person, so she had downloaded a lot of games to keep from overthinking.

“You really should just sleep in the spare room from now on, right?”

Wen Yang nodded with a wry smile. “Sure.”

As the couple slowly walked into the dining room, Hei Dou was wide-eyed, munching on a fried chicken leg while watching them.

Although she hadn’t heard the conversation outside, seeing Wen Yang carefully guarding Ning Chu like a fragile porcelain doll, her cat ears perked up.

“Sis, you’re not… pregnant, are you?”

“Eat your chicken leg!”

Ning Chu shot a glare at Hei Dou, reaching out to grab the fried chicken leg, but Wen Yang was quick and slapped her hand away.

“You’re making this for Hei Dou, so don’t eat it yourself, okay?”

“……”

She paused her action, staring at Wen Yang in silence.

“Eat it; I’ll peel off the crunchy outer layer for you first. How about that?”

“That’s more like it…”

The chicken leg without its breadcrumb coating was tender and juicy; while missing the crispy texture, it was still tasty.

Ning Chu took small bites of the chicken leg and instructed Hei Dou, “Don’t tell Mom about my situation.”

“Why not? Are you really pregnant?” Hei Dou’s eyes lit up as she immediately lowered her head to scrutinize her sister’s belly. “But it doesn’t look like you have a belly?”

“You won’t show until you’re four or five months along; next year, you’ll get to be an aunt~ Just don’t make a fuss when that time comes; set a good example for your nephew.”

“Mm!” She nodded seriously, trying to keep a straight face.

So, Ning Chu continued to steer the conversation, “Hei Dou, next year we’ll enroll in the spring prep class; let’s aim for a good vocational school.”

Hei Dou shyly looked away, unable to maintain her serious demeanor.

“Don’t want your nephew to look down on your education, right? Aunt only graduated from vocational school, you know~”

She rolled her eyes at Ning Chu. “Sis, I promised a friend I’d go to the prep class together, so don’t worry.”

“Boyfriend?”

“No!” Hei Dou’s fair face flushed a shade of pink, mumbling, “I told you it’s just an ambiguous relationship.”

Look at how shy she is; they might just be one layer of glass away from it being serious, right?

Ning Chu anxiously looked up at Wen Yang.

She and Wen Yang both knew what guys thought about during ambiguous situations.

“So, how far have you guys progressed?” Wen Yang asked.

“Just holding hands and that kind of thing…” Hei Dou hesitated before looking up indignantly. “I’m this old; it’s not like it’s early dating! Why are you asking so many questions?”

Ning Chu immediately shoved a fried chicken leg in front of Hei Dou to silence her complaints.

“Hey Hei Dou, how about we go to the bedroom and chat for a bit?”

“No way! I can tell you’re just going to nag me… Mom has told me a hundred times, and I’m not a clueless cat!”

She let out a helpless sigh, “Honestly, having a son would be better.”

Wen Yang didn’t mind; pouring a bowl of soup for his wife, he then worriedly said, “I specifically went to see a 3D presentation on childbirth… feels like you’re going to be in so much pain, you won’t be able to handle it.”

“Don’t say that, don’t say that.”

Ning Chu covered her ears, shaking her head in refusal to listen. “What if I really get scared?”

She had deliberately suppressed her curiosity and avoided learning about this kind of stuff because she was afraid it would frighten her away.

“My mom didn’t have the same technology as we do now, and she had two kids! How could I not compare to her?”

“Sister-in-law said the pain relief shot helps a lot; she was up and about the next day after giving birth last year, while my brother was still howling.”
