Chapter 492

Chapter 494. Father

Inside the familiar old elevator, Ning Chu paced back and forth in the cramped space, her pretty face filled with anxiety and tension.

She stopped, facing the mottled mirror on the elevator wall, took out a comb from her small handbag, and began to tidy her hairstyle.

It was her first time meeting her father, so she had to at least put on a good front…

Wen Yang, holding a carton of fruit milk as a gift, looked down at Ning Chu’s restless appearance and said, “I guess you won’t see him when you get home.”

“Yeah, with two bedrooms, it’s not like he can sleep in the same room as my mom…”

“Eh? What if he really is sleeping in the same room as my mom?!”

Ning Chu was taken aback, looking up in confusion.

“That shouldn’t be the case, right?”

She anxiously raked her fingers through her hair, messing up the style she had just fixed, “Well, we’re almost home…”

The closer she got to home, the more her mind spiraled into chaos; she didn’t know whether to be curious and expectant about meeting her father or to feel angry and upset. But one thing was for sure—she was extremely nervous.

The elevator stopped, and the iron door slowly opened.

Ning Chu took a deep breath, quickly burying her emotions deep inside, putting on a cold demeanor that resembled Lily’s aloofness.

She adjusted her hair and appearance one last time and glanced back at Wen Yang’s tall figure with her anxious large eyes.

Wen Yang just smiled gently and nodded at her.

That instantly reassured Ning Chu, filling her with warmth.

As she stepped out of the elevator, the front door of the house had already been opened wide for her.

Perhaps hearing the elevator, Hei Dou couldn’t wait to push the door open and peek out into the hallway. Upon seeing Ning Chu and Wen Yang, she immediately exclaimed with delight, “Sister! Brother-in-law!”

The little cat, barefoot and with her tail high in the air, joyfully dashed out of the house and leaped into Ning Chu’s arms, rubbing her face against Ning Chu’s chest while purring like a cat.

“Eh…”

Ning Chu instinctively leaned back, her face unable to hide a blush.

“Stop rubbing.”

The towering hills on her chest were getting tickled, and she could only push Hei Dou away in embarrassment, stepping back a couple of paces while covering her chest, “Go rub Wen Yang instead.”

“Brother-in-law~”

Hei Dou pounced back into Wen Yang’s arms.

“Hei Dou, is there anyone else at home aside from Mom?”

Ning Chu timidly looked towards the inside of the house.

“No!”

“That’s good…”

She breathed a sigh of relief, then shuffled her heels and took off her sneakers as she walked inside.

As soon as she entered, a rich aroma of meat hit her nose; from the kitchen came the sound of the range hood and the clattering of her mom cooking.

The familiar scent and environment made her involuntarily relax. Unlike the feeling when she was with Wen Yang in the rental house, upon returning home, she felt like her psychological age had dropped by at least ten years.

“Back home?”

“Mm!”

Ning Chu responded, looking down to see two pairs of slippers, one big and one small, arranged neatly in preparation.

“Hei Dou, why are you barefoot outside? Isn’t it dirty? Hurry up and come in.”

She slipped into her slippers and rushed towards the kitchen, peeking in at her mom busy cooking dinner.

“Mom~ What’s for dinner tonight?”

She asked with an eager face.

In a month’s time, her mom hadn’t changed at all; she still had that gentle smile, though there was a hint of worry between her brows.

“Lychee pork, pork rib soup, sweet and sour fish…”

Her mom rambled on about the dinner dishes while busying herself, covering the pot before turning towards Ning Chu at the door with a cheerful tease, “You look great!”

Her daughter appeared much better than during the New Year celebrations, with a rosy glow, no signs of acne or dullness, and her eyes seemed to sparkle, a picture of someone well-fed.

“Not bad, I guess.”

“Make sure to take it easy; let Wen Yang pay attention to his health, or else he might not hold up in a couple of years~”

“Mom!”

Ning Chu shot her mother an exasperated look.

She really couldn’t explain that it was her who couldn’t handle Wen Yang! Almost every time, she ended up fainting after begging for mercy.

If it weren’t for her having something to do today, Wen Yang would’ve held back; otherwise, she would be staggering around now.

“Leave it, leave it.” Seeing her daughter blush, her mother stifled a chuckle, “Where’s Wen Yang? Let me see if he’s been drained dry by you.”

Didn’t we just say to stop talking about it?!

Just then, Wen Yang, with Hei Dou hugging his arm, also stepped into the kitchen.

“Auntie, hello.”

Her mother looked Wen Yang up and down. Contrary to her expectations of someone who had been living with a Succubus for over a month, he looked perfectly fine, with none of the expected signs of weakness or pallor, in fact, he seemed quite spirited.

Not only fulfilling a Succubus’s needs but also keeping himself in good health—truly the man her daughter had chosen well.

Her mother flashed him a warm smile, “Why did you buy more stuff? Next time, don’t bother bringing anything, Ning Xin doesn’t like fruit.”

“Should I bring some meat next time instead?”

“Good!” Hei Dou immediately raised her hand in agreement.

“Dinner will be ready in about an hour, you guys can just go relax and stop causing trouble here.”

Hei Dou pulled Wen Yang’s hand towards the living room, “Brother-in-law! I have a turtle! Let me show you!”

Meanwhile, Ning Chu walked straight into the kitchen, eagerly helping her mother.

Her eyes darting around, she couldn’t hold back from asking her mom, “Mom, what’s your current plan?”

“Are you going to divorce him directly? Or are you just giving up on the uncle? That would be too cruel for him~”

Her mother’s face darkened as she wielded the spatula, pretending to swing it at Ning Chu’s head.

Ning Chu quickly protected her head, “I’m just concerned about you!”

“Do I need you to worry about my affairs?” Her mother threatened her with a roll of her eyes, “You should think about how to get along with him.”

“Me?”

“That’s your dad; have you forgotten?”

Ning Chu pouted dismissively, “As if he ever raised me; he didn’t give me a dime, and now he expects me to take care of him?” I don’t even know what he looks like.”

Recalling that, she suddenly felt a bit panicked.

It seemed that from a legal standpoint, even if her father hadn’t fulfilled his support obligations, she would still be responsible for supporting him.

How ridiculous!

Ning Chu stood frozen in the living room, originally thinking her mother was in the worst situation only to find that it turned out to be herself?

Looking at her mother’s attitude, she presumably was already ready for a divorce, yet she felt wholly unprepared!

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

She froze for a moment, looking up, only to see Hei Dou rushing over and opening the door.

Outside stood a man about 1.7 meters tall, slender, with a head of white hair, wearing a leather jacket, and his wrinkled face still vaguely showing signs of former handsomeness…

At first glance, Ning Chu recognized her father’s features in the man’s face.

This is… Dad?
