Chapter 323

Chapter 323. Daily Life

“Wen Yang! I used to sneak out with my brother to this milk tea shop and use the spare change from home! Their fried skewers are amazing!”

“What a beating he took~ My brother came home all bruised and battered, and the teacher thought he was abused the next day~”

“Behind that little convenience store over there is a black internet café. My brother and I used to hang out there all the time; it should have been shut down by now, right?”

On the last day before Wen Yang started his job, Ning Chu took him around the city, wandering aimlessly.

She held his hand, sharing amusing stories from her childhood, her eyes filled with a hint of nostalgia.

Kindergarten and elementary school were probably the most carefree times of her life.

Once she hit middle school, the academic pressure skyrocketed, and family issues arose, leaving her feeling lost. Now, when she tried to recall those days, she could barely remember her teachers or classmates.

It was only after she crossed over to this parallel world, found a loving partner, had her healthy mother, and met her brother who had become a corporate worker, that life added a dash of color.

“Should we get some fried skewers to eat?”

Wen Yang looked down at Ning Chu’s lively and excited demeanor, a smile creeping onto his face.

He certainly preferred this Little Demoness from now.

The one on the bed was nice too.

But Ning Chu, who used to be introverted and burdened with worries, tugged at his heartstrings as well.

“Let’s skip it; I’m not into fried skewers anymore.”

Ning Chu shook her head, walking past the milk tea shop and stopping about a hundred meters down the alley, gazing at the entrance of her former elementary school, shrouded under a massive banyan tree.

“I studied at this elementary school. It was renovated right after I graduated, even the name changed.”

During the winter break, not many pedestrians could be seen nearby, and peering through the gate into the school grounds felt empty, not even a glimpse of faculty.

“Damn it, I remember a classmate who loved to bully me! We had a few fights, and I never won!”

Ning Chu cursed angrily.

“I’ll help you beat him up next time you see him.”

“Yeah, let’s beat him up!”

Wen Yang chuckled at her outburst, his voice deep and gentle: “Nobody will bully you anymore.”

Ning Chu, however, brushed it off, saying, “Ah, right, right, right—you’re the one who always bullied me.”

“How could that be considered bullying?”

She shot him a glare and continued to stroll with him aimlessly.

Ning Chu wasn’t a big fan of shopping, but that depends on the company.

With Wen Yang, even sitting idly by the street watching passersby felt like an adventure.

Without realizing it, she ended up getting a cup of milk tea and a meat sandwich. After just a few bites, she made a face of disgust and shoved the meat sandwich into Wen Yang’s hands.

“This is awful! There’s hardly any meat left. The ones I used to eat were packed with meat!”

Wen Yang, with a good appetite, took the sandwich and devoured it in a few bites.

“By the way, has there been any progress on Shao Qing’s side these days?”

Hearing Ning Chu’s question, he thought for a moment and organized the information in his head, replying, “Not too optimistic.”

“What’s going on?”

“It seems Qian Qian has a boyfriend.”

“!!!”

No way! Did someone steal a march on him again?!

Last time it was her childhood friend, and now it’s Qian Qian with a case of love at first sight. Does Zhang Shao Qing not care about his pride as a rich second generation?

She didn’t write about this kind of plot either, right? They’re all supposed to be the villains messing with others.

“He’s okay, right?” Ning Chu hurriedly asked.

Wen Yang’s expression turned slightly strange: “But he seems pretty happy about it this time; he says he’s planning to dig a wall.”

“Happy?”

“Maybe he’s gone numb?”

Ning Chu paused for a moment before vaguely grasping Zhang Shao Qing’s intentions.

Previously, she had hinted to Zhang Shao Qing that the guy Qian Qian liked was a scumbag. Now, if he could find evidence to make Qian Qian heartbroken and break up, Zhang Shao Qing would have a chance to swoop in.

After all, when a girl is heartbroken, she’s most unsuspecting; even Wen Yang had used this tactic to win her over.

When she transformed into a girl, he provided her with overwhelming security at her most helpless and frightened moments.

“Why does this guy’s love life have to be so complicated?” Ning Chu muttered quietly while lowering her head to send a message to Yan Xinya about this.

Yan Xinya had embedded herself in the inner circle, becoming Qian Qian’s best friend, and knew a lot of inside information.

Wen Yang casually asked with his hands in his windbreaker pockets, “We’re out shopping, why do you keep talking about him?”

“Just caring about my son’s love life~”

Ning Chu smiled and raised her head, wrapping her arm around Wen Yang’s: “What’s wrong? Are you jealous?”

“Nope.”

Wen Yang found it petty to be jealous over a brother and denied it outright.

“I’ve sort of learned some stubbornness myself~” Ning Chu grinned and prodded his side, “Let’s go pick up Hei Dou from class. Want to come over for lunch at my place?”

Wen Yang quickly nodded, “Of course! How could I not?”

After picking up Hei Dou from class, the three of them took a ride back to Ning Chu’s house.

As soon as they opened the door, they didn’t see Uncle around. The only sight was their mother sitting alone on the sofa, embroidering.

“Mom, Wen Yang is here too.”

“Where’s Uncle?”

Without looking up, their mother replied, “He just left a little while ago.”

When Uncle arrived, their mother would greet him with a smile at the door, but now, when Ning Chu, Hei Dou, and Wen Yang came back, she didn’t even bother to glance their way.

Wen Yang hesitantly entered, holding a box of milk, and greeted, “Hello, Auntie.”

Hearing his voice, their mother finally looked up, slightly frowning, “Why did you buy something when you came over?”

“For Hei Dou. She loves milk.”

“Right! I love milk!” Hei Dou replied without hesitation.

“You always get diarrhea after drinking milk.”

“I can drink lactose-free, okay?!”

Clearly, the little daughter had already been swayed, or it could be said that Hei Dou had always been a loyal supporter of Wen Yang from the start.

Their mother reluctantly accepted: “Just put it next to the TV stand.”

She stood up from the sofa, took off her glasses, and headed towards the kitchen: “If you wait half an hour, lunch will be ready.”

“Mom, where’s my brother?”

Just as she finished speaking, Ning Yuan walked out of the bathroom.

At the moment their brother saw Wen Yang, his expression froze for a split second, then he casually nodded, as if greeting him.

Ning Chu, however, keenly noticed the change in her brother’s expression, feeling a bit uneasy.

It was as if she didn’t want to see Hei Dou being bullied, her brother’s attitude toward her was fundamentally similar, but less obvious.

“I’ll be leaving right after lunch.” Ning Yuan sat on the sofa, routinely advising, “After I leave, remember to help Ning Xin with her homework, and come home early if you go out. It’s dangerous for girls to be outside late at night…”

So annoying!

Ning Chu’s smile stiffened, she turned her head to the side, rubbing her frostbitten ears with her fingers, letting Ning Yuan’s lectures go in one ear and out the other.

Though her brother had always been a chatterbox, she still struggled to adjust.
