Pastel stepped out of the entrance of the Demon Realm Stock Company. She scanned the surroundings with a wary glance.
“Assassins? Nope.”
She spotted people walking around casually.
“Is there this many people?”
“Assassins? Maybe!”
Just then, a person holding a newspaper passed right in front of her.
“Gasp! An assassin!”
Pastel quickly stepped back and pressed against the doorway. The desk staff behind her gave her a curious look, but when it came to the safety of Governor Pastel, such things didn’t matter.
As she stared intently at the newspaper-holding passerby, the passerby glanced sideways in confusion and continued on their way. Because, you know, they were just a passerby.
Pastel suspiciously watched the back of the passerby’s head.
The chance that they were an assassin was a whopping 50%.
Why 50%? Because when you count the possibility of being an assassin versus not, that gives you two outcomes, which splits the probability right down the middle!
Wow, math genius here.
Having survived with a 50% survival rate, Pastel looked around again.
An old man with a fluffy white puppy walked by. At the entrance, the puppy stopped, turned its head this way, and its neatly groomed fur stood out. Its little tongue poked out as it panted.
“Gasp.”
A ferocious beast…!
Pastel pressed herself tightly against the door.
What if a person sprinted at her and the hormone friend went “Yap Yap!” She couldn’t possibly face such a fearsome creature!
It was so effective that she almost talked to the puppy.
That would have been a big mistake!
The puppy stared for a moment before continuing on. After all, it was just out for a stroll. Every puppy needs their daily walk.
“You really don’t have to be that cautious.”
The Demon Lord, who had been waiting near a carriage, finally spoke up.
“Assassins typically give off signs when they approach. Unless you’re dealing with professionals raised by an empire or the United Kingdom, the amateurs in cults are bound to be clumsy.”
When it comes to state-sponsored training, it’s easy to gain experience by ignoring the law, but in civilian life, most people get caught while trying to gain experience. It’s hard to find someone with professional-level experience.
Even if such skilled individuals existed, assassination isn’t a sustainable career, so they’d quickly switch to a different job. A competent assassin can easily find a good, stable job.
Even while explaining this, the Demon Lord’s red eyes scanned the surrounding pedestrians.
“Besides, what’s crucial in assassination is not missing your target. If the opponent is hiding in a mansion surrounded by guards, it’s exceedingly tricky. It’s best to set everything up and kill them before their guard goes up, rather than relying on a lucky hit among a few disguised pedestrians.”
This was advice from a senior who has been chased across the continent.
Pastel shivered.
“Then doesn’t that mean I have to stay hidden in my house? Should I cancel all my plans and just stay home?!”
Now would be a good time to ask Elly if she could arrange for her to stay in the royal palace!
The Demon Lord chuckled.
“Not a bad idea. The main concern is poisoning, but since you’re immune to poison, you don’t have to worry.”
Wait, what?
Pastel felt uneasy! It wasn’t that she readily accepted this, but she thought…
She had to work outside, and it felt a bit disappointing to be stuck at home. Besides, as a popular figure, she had so many friends to meet! And also, if she didn’t greet the sun every morning, it just didn’t feel like the routine was starting!
Pastel suddenly found herself resistant to the Demon Lord’s advice.
It made sense, but overcoming the significant age gap made her rebellious feelings surge.
As she scanned the surrounding pedestrians, she subtly stepped away from the entrance. Once away, she found that there weren’t as many threats as she’d thought.
Objectively, this was the main entrance of the Demon Realm Stock Company. A place that had experienced multiple terrorists while pillaging the demon realm. Security systems were in place to filter out suspicious individuals right away.
Upon closer inspection, burly agents in suits who were clearly security were loitering around the pavement.
“Relax! Relax!”
Pastel hummed as she walked toward the carriage.
Oh!
Suddenly, something clicked in her mind.
Wasn’t this the scenario of a poor girl getting scared and then being comforted to feel better?
This was totally romantic!
Pastel herself didn’t feel it, but from a rational standpoint, it seemed like it!
Wow.
She approached the Demon Lord closely. As she got near enough, the Demon Lord opened the carriage door, looking puzzled.
“What’s with you?”
The pink eyes looked quizzically at her.
“Hm?”
Hehe.
“Being with you, Demon Lord, makes me feel secure!”
The pink eyes narrowed slightly.
“Can I ask for an escort to the hotel, sir?”
The Demon Lord looked down at her with a strange expression, as if wondering why she was acting this way. Then his look changed to one that questioned if she was going through a phase and he nodded.
“I was planning to do that anyway.”
The Demon Lord casually extended one hand.
Pastel grabbed it to support herself and hopped into the carriage.
The carriage door closed behind her.
“If anything goes wrong, let me know immediately.”
The Demon Lord said while heading toward the coachman’s seat. If the coachman was bribed, it would be troublesome, so he decided to drive for a while.
Pastel stood still inside.
The pink eyes rolled.
Then they grew larger.
“Gasp.”
Super ultra flirting has zero effect.
Why?
If she’d pulled the same line on one of her friends, it would’ve been a dangerous move that violated the rules of popularity!
Pastel clutched her head.
“Why?!”
If her mother had said the same line, the Demon Lord would have reacted with a “pop!” and shown some sort of response, but with her, there was absolutely nothing!
“This makes no sense!”
Could it be that she lacked talent in flirting?
As a popular figure, that would be utterly shameful…!
Her hand quickly brushed against the carriage door. The patterned magic circle glimmered, creating a soundproof environment.
“Fairy of Love!”
She cried out fervently, and the Fairy appeared with a puff. She couldn’t charm the Demon Lord, but she had the skills to summon the Fairy.
– The fairy, like family, has arrived!
The Fairy poked her head out from between the sofa cushions and looked directly at Pastel.
– Got love troubles? That’s my specialty!
Wow, totally reliable!
“Fairy! Fairy! I’m having doubts about my flirting skills! What do you think?”
Pastel realized that her lack of experience while adhering to the ‘flower strategy on a cliff’ as a popular figure was the issue.
– Well, you see…
The Fairy, with only her head sticking out, wore a serious expression as she pondered.
Then she smiled.
– The love charm will solve everything!
Gasp.
– This good fairy will give you a surprise gift and turn it into two charms, so stick them on and see what happens!
Can you really just brush off a mind control charm like that?
“Absolutely not! No way!”
Pastel shook her head vigorously.
“Fairytales say that true love ultimately wins! Depending on false love will only lead to defeat!”
Source: Melissa
– Is that so?
The Fairy tilted her head.
“Yes! Don’t brush it off lightly and please think seriously! Objectively speaking, sticking your head out of the sofa to listen to love troubles isn’t very fairytale-like for a fairy!”
– Not fairy-like?! But I’m definitely a good fairy, and that just won’t do!
The Fairy gasped. She squirmed and crawled out of the sofa.
Then she wriggled more, and as if she’d thought of something that would pivot Pastel’s love life, she was taken aback.
– No way?!
Pastel’s eyes widened.
“What’s wrong?! Was there a huge problem with my flirting?! Do I seem too lighthearted because of it?!”
That can’t happen…!
The Fairy’s expression grew serious.
Her face looked like it was facing the greatest crisis in the universe.
Pastel swallowed hard.
The Fairy’s mouth slowly opened.
– I’m stuck.
The Fairy’s face turned to a frown.
– I’m stuck in the sofa…
The small upper body, which had only made it partially out of the sofa, sagged.
Gasp.
That was a crisis in itself.
– This sofa has a sturdy metal frame inside. Isn’t that a bit too tough?
“I guess they switched to sturdier carriages to prevent sniping, but it looks like that’s how it turned out! Wait, I’ll become a wonderful partner who saves the Fairy of Love!”
Pastel started desperately working on the sofa. The fluffy sofa cushions around the Fairy compressed. As she created some space, the Fairy struggled to pull her body back.
Exhausted, the Fairy flopped onto the floor. Her voice was weak as she mumbled.
– Next time, I won’t go between the cushions. If you hadn’t called for me, I might have had to spend the night stuck in here alone…
Gasp.
The Fairy shook her head as if shaking off the terrifying possibility.
Then she looked up in confusion.
– What were we talking about again?
“Are you okay now?”
– I’m tough, so I’m fine. So, what were we talking about?
“Right! I said I was having doubts about my flirting!”
– Ah, yes. You mentioned that a love charm can’t defeat true love, right?
The Fairy crossed her arms.
– A love charm alone can only lead to false love, huh?
After thinking for a moment, the Fairy suddenly brightened.
– So if one charm isn’t enough, then just use two!
Huh?
If one charm wasn’t sufficient, two would do the trick.
Pastel perked her ears up, intrigued.
How enticing!
